The first woman Vice President was sent on a mission that actually makes no sense…..
Going to Guatemala and Mexico to offer those countries to offer them money and tell the folks there to NOT escape their poverty by walking to the US/Mexico border….
Worst?
Harris was never scheduled to actually VISIT the border….
All this while her staff is busy trying to tell people her boss President Biden did NOT really mean she was in charge of the Immigration problems at the border that are NEVER gonna go away?
Then?
The V ice President got the Vote Reform job dropped in her lap by Biden…
This is ANOTHER non-starter….
Republicans will NEVER vote for this in the US Senate….
Folks?
The woman is just a punching bag right now…
She doesn’t deserve this….
These are NOT good things for her political future?
It has not been a good week for Vice President Harris. Consider all that happened: President Biden put her in charge of passing a major voting rights bill, just before it went down the tubes because of Democrats. And now she is in the middle of her first foreign trip as vice president trying to make progress on the second can’t-win issue Biden put in her portfolio: fixing the migrant surge at the southern border and addressing the causes of migration from the Northern Triangle.
Harris’ trip to Guatemala and Mexico has so far made headlines for two things. First was a carefully worded statement telling those in the Northern Triangle countries to not come to the United States, which was roundly criticized by prominent liberals. Second, was her admission to NBC News anchor Lester Holt that she hasn’t been to the border and really has no plan to do so. She also quipped that she hasn’t been to Europe either, and then said she wasn’t downplaying the situation….
…
To be clear, the mistakes Harris is making as vice president are all her own ― the tone-deaf tweet urging followers to “enjoy the long weekend” sent on her account during Memorial Day weekend without any mention of troops or those who were being honored is a case in point. But at the same time, she also appears to be in a no-win situation.
Harris cannot resurrect a major voting rights bill through the Senate on her own if Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer cannot. And Harris isn’t set up to be the person to fix the situation on the border, a problem that has eluded several presidents over decades, and even her own boss….
…
It is still early in the administration and Harris, the first woman and first woman of color to hold the job of vice president, has already made history. But Harris is now at a surprise inflection point. Her status as the de facto next Democratic presidential nominee is less sure now than it was even a year ago…..

I was about to dismiss the assumption that a sitting Democratic Vice President is the party’s next “presumptive” nominee for President until I thought about the more recent ones.
All four of the most recent Democratic VPs who ended their terms as VP (rather than having succeeded to the Presidency) have subsequently won the Democratic Presidential nomination: Humphrey (1965-9/1968), Mondale (1977-81/1984), Gore (1993-2001/2000) and Biden (2009-17/2021).
But you’d have to leap all the way back to 1836 (Van Buren) and 1800 (Jefferson, coequally with Aaron Burr) to find any others. [Not counting John Breckinridge by the Southern minority wing in 1860, or Henry Wallace by the Progressive Party in 1948.]
The Republicans first nominated a VP for President in 1960 (Nixon), followed by George H.W. Bush in 1988.
However, Agnew and Rockefeller, followed (so far) by Quayle and Cheney, have not won the GOP nomination. None of the Republican VP’s before Nixon — from Hannibal Hamlin (1861-65) to Charles Curtis (1929-33) — have won it (nor in many cases, sought it). So Mike Pence has no guarantees.

Pence has about ZERO percent chance of being the 2024 GOP nominee right now…..
My feeling is DeSantis IS the early leader….

In my view it is a mistake to “announce” that the VP is “in charge” of whatever. Why even do that?
Used to they would call foreign excursions like these “good will trips.”
However,we don’t know whether these “announcements are Bidens idea or Harris herself sought them out.
jamesb says
I agree Jack….
She’s getting a bad deal from Biden & Co.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Did Barack Obama put Joe Biden “in charge of” anything?
Same thing happens in state governments when a Lieutenant Governor has no constitutional executive authority but is sometimes put “in charge of” something by the Governor so that the Lt Gov. doesn’t look or feel completely superfluous.
Sometimes these tasks are ceremonial (organizing a centenary) or minor (running the tourist council), and sometimes too vast or inchoate that the Governor doesn’t want to own it (juvenile crime, unemployment, economic development).
jamesb says
I think Biden and Obama liked to say they both sat in on everything….
Harris just is getting garbage thrown at her
Keith says
A mistake? Obama put Biden “in charge” of several things over the course of eight years, and this is hardly any different.
This trip was a lot more than just for goodwill. She delivered a specific message to keep a lid on undocumented immigration.
We have Republicans and some in the media doing what they always do, beating up on a woman of color.
She is the Republican whipping girl since they cannot demonize Biden. She’s in charge don’t you know, he’s senile don’t you know.
jamesb says
Keith?
The ‘trip’ was a bust….
Guatemala and Mexico are NOT gonna take bribe money and stop people from coming here…
(Senate Republicans wouldn’t even support that)
Harris’s people have been scrambling to have NOTHING to do with Biden’s comment that she is ‘in charge’ of immigration for the admin….
She hasn’t visited the border yet Keith….
Voter Reform is DOA….
Yes…
I agree with U the media IS picking on her…
But Biden & Co. need to get better with her political jobs and mission’s….
Right now they are just shitting all over her program….
