Here’s view from RRH, a Right leaning Blog…
Libertarian Party: America’s third largest political party, the national Libertarian Party (hardly known for its effectiveness or political prowess as it is), is in the midst of a deep schism over out of control Twitter drama and the future of the party. National Libertarian Party Chairman Joseph Bishop-Henchman resigned last Friday along with two other members of the Libertarian National Committee. The City Clerk for Dekalb, Illinois, Sasha Cohen (L) has also resigned from the national party in protest. Much of the drama began in New Hampshire where Bishop-Hencman backed a splinter group’s efforts to break away from the existing state party and seize the state party’s social media accounts to prevent provocative tweets. Suffice it to say, the Libertarian Party is not looking to have a national impact anytime soon.

Yeah that’s always been the saying.
The LP has always been the temporary home for disgruntled Republicans.
Indeed ,four of its presidential candidates have been Republican politicos.
In 1976,Roger MacBride , who had been a Republican elector for Nixon in 1972 but reneged and cast his vote for LP candidate John Hospers ,became the LP presidential candidate.Later MacBride served as LP National Chairman. He later concluded that the LP had no serious chance of winning elections and returned to the GOP ,starting a Republican libertarian group.(MacBride also had the distinction of the being the first presidential elector to vote for a female by casting his VP vote for LP VP candidate Toni Nathan).
Twelve years later former(and future) Texas Cong. Ron Paul was the LP presidential candidate .Shortly after this flirtation Paul returned to the GOP and was again elected to Congress.
In 2008 Bob Barr a former Republican Congressman from Georgia was the LP candidate. One of the candidates Barr defeated for the nomination was Mike Gravel, the former Democratic Senator from Alaska. This is the only nationally known Democrat I’m aware of who ever defected to the LP.Both Gravel and Barr later returned to their respective parties .Gravel ran for President while Barr tried to return to Congess, both unsuccessfully.
Finally there is former NM Gov. Gary Johnson ,the LP candidate in 2012 and 2016.Johnson has been by far the most successful LP candidate amassing over four million votes in 2016.Johnson remains an LPer but has made remarks indicating he is upset with some of the present goings on in the party.

I think former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard might run for President as a Libertarian.
