WTF did they go to ranked choice in the first place ?
They ‘ve had enough problems with traditional vote counting…..
Now their screw up has a LOT of head scratching going on….
And has Trump smiling and saying that this is another example of problems in vote counting ….
The race for the Democratic nomination to be the next mayor of New York City was thrown into chaos late Tuesday as the city’s embattled Board of Elections acknowledged a monumental screw-up in its first major experiment with ranked-choice voting.
The Board on Tuesday released its first results from last week’s vote, showing Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams (D) narrowly leading former Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia (D), who leap-frogged former city official Maya Wiley (D) into second place after 10 rounds of reapportioning ranked-choice ballots that eliminated candidates who had fallen short.
But the results did not include more than 124,000 absentee ballots that have not yet been counted, and some of the results stuck observers as odd. Late Tuesday, the Board acknowledged its count had failed to clear a previous test of 135,000 sample ballots it had used to check for errors in the software….
New York City mayoral contender Kathryn Garcia said Wednesday she is “concerned” that the recent ballot counting snafu by the city’s Board of Elections could undermine confidence in the electoral system.
“I am concerned that it undermines people’s confidence. There is no one on my team or where we’ve been doing observations of opening of ballots that gives us concern that there is something fraudulent happening at all. But we need to make sure that the vote is protected and that we get the result that New Yorkers went to the polls or mailed in at the end of the day,” Garcia told CNN’s “New Day” on Wednesday. “I am really hopeful it won’t [produce conspiracy theories]. It seems like this was a straightforward mistake, but we will definitely be watching and monitoring as we go forward.”
After ranked-choice votes were tabulated on Tuesday, Garcia, the former commissioner of the city’s Department of Sanitation, trailed the leading candidate, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, by just 2 points. Hours later, the Board of Elections, long plagued by understaffing and underfinancing, admitted it had failed to remove 135,000 test ballots from its tabulation and withdrew those results from its website. There are also more than 120,000 absentee ballots that need to be counted.
The New York City Board of Elections is facing mounting criticism after it erroneously released — and later retracted — a botched tally of votes in the city’s closely watched Democratic mayoral primary.
The problems in New York have also provided a new talking point for former President Trump and his allies, who have spent months seeking to sow distrust in the electoral process.
A preliminary report of ranked-choice voting results released Tuesday afternoon had shown that the race between Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, the ostensible front-runner, and his two closest rivals, Kathryn Garcia and Maya Wiley, had tightened significantly since last week’s primary…
Note…
The two NYC right leaning newspapers (NY Post,,,NY Daily News) have pushed Democrat Eric Adams, a former cop, and former Republican that is Black….

NY Post and NY Daily News are rivals.
The Daily News has never been described as “right-leaning.”
