It will take a few with the rankled voting thing…
The polling says Eric Adams.…

They’ll also be voting on the Manhattan DA and other offices…
New York City is a Democratic town…
The winners from this vote are the odds on favorite’s to win come Nov ember….
Polls have closed in New York City’s first ever ranked-choice election and, while the die has been cast, voters may not know the outcome for weeks.
The winner of Tuesday’s Democratic primary is almost certain to become mayor in the city’s November general election at a time of unique challenge: Recovering from high unemployment, flattened tourism and a chaotic school year of remote learning spurred by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Crime frequently topped polls as a leading concern among voters, vaulting Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams — a former police captain who ran almost singularly on a promise of restoring safety to the city — into first place and minimizing the impact of the “defund NYPD” movement that got a foothold in city politics last year.
“New Yorkers are feeling this energy,” Adams told reporters in Manhattan Tuesday morning, repeating his campaign pledge to drive down shootings.
Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, former sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia and former counsel to de Blasio Maya Wiley formed the top-tier of the crowded race in recent weeks. Yang and Garcia were the only ones to form a late alliance in the race, a common move in other ranked-choice campaigns around the country….

The Democratic nominee will not be officially determined until the city Board of Elections releases its tally of absentee ballots on July 6. Further extending the ballot count is the advent of ranked-choice voting, which allows New Yorkers to select up to five candidates for each position. The system kicks in when no candidate attains 50 percent of votes on the first pass. The board plans to issue preliminary results of ranked ballots on June 29….

Yang has dropped out of the race.

Well, I guess conceded describes it better. It’s not like there is going to be a runoff or more voting before November.

NY Times early rundowns….
Andrew Yang, a former 2020 presidential candidate whose name recognition once made him an early front-runner in the New York mayor’s race, conceded on Tuesday night after trailing badly in early vote tallies.
Mr. Yang was joined by his wife, Evelyn, and other supporters, and spoke in a somber tone that contrasted with the enthusiasm and energy that marked his campaign….

Eric Adams, the Brooklyn borough president, has a strong lead in the election results reported so far tonight.
Mr. Adams is ahead in every borough except Manhattan, and Maya Wiley and Kathryn Garcia are neck and neck for second place…

Curtis Sliwa won the Republican primary in the New York mayor’s race on Tuesday, setting up a long-shot challenge in November to the Democratic Party’s eventual nominee.
With a significant portion of votes counted, Mr. Sliwa was beating Fernando Mateo by over 40 percentage points, according to The Associated Press….
…
With a significant portion of the vote in, Alvin Bragg leads by about five percentage points in the race for Manhattan district attorney, keeping his foremost opponent, Tali Farhadian Weinstein, at bay.
Mr. Bragg and Ms. Farhadian Weinstein, both former federal prosecutors, have significant leads over the other six candidates. Mr. Bragg is performing particularly well in neighborhoods on the Upper West Side and in his lifelong home of Harlem, while Ms. Farhadian Weinstein is cleaning up on the Upper East Side, handily beating Dan Quart, an assembly member and fellow candidate, in his own district….

The diversity of Eric Adams’s coalition is on display here: A group of Asian American supporters pose as Orthodox Jewish men chat nearby. A woman in a hijab is on the dance floor. Black and Latino supporters are mingling….

Mayor Bill de Blasio waxed philosophical after casting his vote on Tuesday in Brooklyn. Asked if he had any advice for his successor — lessons learned, perhaps, from his tenure — or a wish list from the next administration, he replied, “How much time do you have?”
He refused to reveal the five candidates he had ranked but is believed to support Eric Adams, the Brooklyn borough president who has been leading in most polls. The mayor gave Mr. Adams what might sound to left-leaning New Yorkers like his strongest plug yet: “Is Eric Adams progressive? Oh, unquestionably. He was progressive long before it was fashionable.”…

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Maya Wiley for mayor of New York City this month, helping to elevate her as the strongest progressive in the race.
On Primary Day, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez revealed that Scott M. Stringer, the city comptroller, was her second choice. She made the comments in a radio interview on Hot 97 while criticizing Eric Adams, calling him “very Trumpian.”…

Poll sites across the five boroughs were relatively quiet on Tuesday, with many voters reporting near-empty polling stations, short wait times and few, if any, snaking lines. Voting also appeared to be running smoothly, save for scattered reports of hiccups at some locations.
Some locations did not open on time because assigned workers called in sick or came late. There were also a few reports of malfunctioning machines and a shortage of interpreters at some places, a longstanding issue for the city Board of Elections….

Yang is running FOURTH in early results….
Remember….
The result will come from ranked choice rounds…
I DID read that of like over 400 ranked choice races….
The top initial vote getter has won always except for 15 times….

Andrew Yang should stop running for elective office and try to get a gig working for the Biden admin…..Or go back to running his own business
Scott P says
So many NYC mayors have failed spectacularly running for President–John Lindsay, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio.
Yang proved you can fail going in the other direction too.
CG says
NYC Republicans have chosen Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa as their nominee.
He has no chance of course, unless Democrats were to nominate Wiley and her defund the police centered campaign.
CG says
Sliwa was endorsed by Rudy Giuliani while his opponent was endorsed by Michael Flynn.
Scott P says
A race to the bottom.
CG says
The Republican nominee will campaign every day in a beret.
The party has come a long way since opposing John Kerry in 2004.

He, he, he…..
Yup…..
He’s batting 0-2 in the last year….

Yang should run for Comptroller.
He has tried to make “Asian Math Whiz” his calling card in his races so far.
jamesb says
No he shouldn’t….

The race to replace Manhattan DA Vance….
Alvin Bragg was leading in the Democratic primary for Manhattan district attorney as returns came in Tuesday night, maintaining a steady margin of about four percentage points over Tali Farhadian Weinstein in a race likely to determine who heads the most prominent local prosecutor’s office in the country.
The winner of the primary will be heavily favored to win the general election in November and would lead an office that prosecutes tens of thousands of cases a year and is running a high-profile inquiry into former President Donald J. Trump and his family business….

RHH gives a pretty good overview of the June 22nd NY Mayoral Primary results on the day afterwards….
About last night . . .
While we’re not going to get a final count for weeks, it looks like Eric Adams is out to a very strong 1st place in the NYC-mayor D primary, at 31.7% of the vote and well ahead of the 2nd-place Maya Wiley. Obviously RCV can move things around in the coming weeks and Adams is already pulling huge numbers with the city’s Black voters, but for now he looks like a solid favorite to pull out the nomination (and de facto election) in the end. On the GOP side, Curtis Silwa has won relatively easily over Fernando Mateo. The D primary for NYC comptroller is still up in the air, with Lander leading with just over 30%, and Jumaane Williams has clenched an easy re-nomination with over 70% for Public Advocate. Alvin Bragg is out in front for the non-RCV Manhattan DA race, and will most likely clinch it. Upstate, incumbent Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has lost renomination for a 5th term to India Walton, and incumbent Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren has lost almost 2:1 to Malik Evans.
For the Borough President offices, Levine has a small but noticeable lead for Manhattan BP D nomination over Holyman; that race will be determined by where the rest of the votes go. Gibson is leading Cabrera for Bronx BP D nomination, Reynoso is out to a big lead in Brooklyn, and Richards is narrowly leading Crowley in Queens. On Staten Island, Murphy is way out in front on the D side, and Fossella is narrowly ahead of Matteo on the R side….

Update….
NYC Mayor count has Garcia closing on Adams in the ranked choice first tabulations
CG says
Is that the final round?
If Garcia even comes close, she probably owes it to Yang who endorsed her as the second choice, even though she was unwilling to return the favor.
Adams, whom I think will still win, hurt himself probably by all the final day race-baiting he was trying to do.
jamesb says
Not the final round…..
Adams still leads….
I red somewhere that the initial winner goes on to win about 96% of the time….
Adams losing would require a media reset narrative
