The just ‘drop things and run ‘ thing isn’t making the American General’s happy….
Nor is it making members of Congress happy either…
Added to all this unhappiness is the other countries that have troops in the that country….
Idiotic responses about securing the Kabul airport and having a US Embassy in Kabul while the Taliban would possibly march thru the place ARE just that….
NATO has committed troops in Afghanistan….
The Taliban isn’t negating anything….
This isn’t the US Senate….
One hope’s that something more concrete is presented by Biden to insure that the world is not left with a breeding ground for bad things to happen to an entire population and those bad things are have the chance to be exported back to the West as they where in the past….
NATO allies have made no secret of their frustration with President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw forces from Afghanistan unconditionally by Sept. 11. Now as he arrives in Brussels this week for his first NATO summit as president, Biden must confront allies’ lingering resentment over the drawdown and tackle the thorny issues involved in securing the country’s future.
European officials say they are frustrated by what they saw as the Biden administration’s failure to sufficiently consult with allies ahead of the announcement, and the decision to move from a conditions-based withdrawal to one based on the calendar. U.K. Secretary of State for Defense Ben Wallace echoed those sentiments last month, telling parliament that he “regrets” the decision to withdraw forces without setting conditions on the Taliban…
…
Biden must now smooth the waters as the NATO coalition looks toward a not-so-distant future where the Afghan National Defense Forces will be left essentially to their own devices for the first time in 20 years.
Publicly, U.S. and NATO officials express cautious optimism about the future of Afghanistan. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he has faith the Afghan security forces will be able to withstand Taliban attacks and that the government in Kabul would manage to cement the social and economic gains made over the past 20 years…
…
But experts warn that after the U.S. and its allies leave Afghanistan, the country’s security situation will deteriorate and Western forces may need to clean up the mess. Retired Gen. Joseph Votel, the former head of U.S. Central Command, compared the situation in Afghanistan today to the 2011 withdrawal from Iraq, which arguably led to the rise of the Islamic State….
…
NATO is also closely watching how the United States tackles the problem of ensuring the safety of thousands of Afghan interpreters and other civilians who helped the U.S. government over the past 20 years, and are now in danger from the Taliban.
In an ominous statement last week, the Taliban urged the Afghans who worked alongside Western forces to “show remorse for their past actions,” and warned them not to “engage in such activities in the future that amount to a threat against Islam and the country.” The group said these people will not be in any danger if they drop these activities….
…
U.S. lawmakers have recently expressed frustration that the White House is not moving more quickly to expedite special immigrant visas for as many as 18,000 Afghans to enter the United States before the withdrawal is complete.
European countries, by contrast, have taken more robust steps to accelerate their own relocation processes. The U.K., for example, recently announced that it will expedite the relocation of Afghan staff and families who worked for the British government in Afghanistan. More than 1,360 people have already been relocated in Britain, and the government now estimates that about 3,000 more people will join them….

Why is Biden using the term “worthy adversary” to describe Putin and talking about how “tough” and “bright” Putin is?
Had Trump said any of those things, he would have been criticized by everyone here for it.
Keith says
By everyone? Did he offer to give Putin a verbal blow job like Trump did? Get back to us when he does.
CG says
For Putin’s propaganda purposes, he basically did.
james is right that Biden needs to be kept away from press conferences.
Keith says
How ridiculous and you know it.
Biden is getting rave reviews for this trip. The photo ops alone have been fantastic.
America is back on the world stage and I know that bothers you. Try waiting until the Summit begins and try not to watch Fox.
CG says
It’s on every network. Even Democrats are shaking their head on the praise that Biden offered for Putin and saying he created an unneeded narrative. Biden was asked if he still believed Putin was a “killer” , something he has said before, and refused to answer.
So, you can continue to be blinded by partisanship. Some of us Biden voters expect better when it comes to Putin.
CG says
He did just fine with the Queen though.
CG says
although when he said she reminded him of his mother, her Majesty might not have liked that a ton.
jamesb says
Lets cut to chase on Biden’s Summit, NATO and Putin meetings…
JUST because he ain’t Donald Trump IS getting him good approval numbers…,
I’d think EVERYBODY is Happy the America knucklehead is gone and ole’ Joe is reping America!
Ooops!
Not everyone…..
Ole Putin can’t be happy
That 2016 thing didn’t work, even with Trump’s efforts to copy his techniques…..
The Queens 12th American President, eh
Keith says
No one other than Fox and a bunch of Republicans trying to expunge their behavior when Trump was bending over for Putin are concerned about Joe’s performance in the EU.
So are these “everyone” like all those Democrats who worship RFKjr? Are they?
People here just make shit up to fit their preconceived opinions based on nothing.
Every media outlet other than Fox is praising Biden.
CG says
People can praise Biden when he deserves it, but
Should Biden be calling Putin a “worthy adversary?”
Should Biden be saying that Putin is “smart?”
Should Biden be saying that Putin is “tough?”
Should Biden walk back his previous (and true) assertion that Putin is a “killer” especially when the life of Nalvany is literally hanging in the balance?
The answer to all of those things is easily no. It should not be too difficult, even for Biden supporters, to admit he made rhetorical mistakes in this press conferences and walked over what would otherwise be the message.
The truth of the matter is that Putin is a killer, but that does not make him “tough.” His actions in targeting American democracy and American certainly do not make him smart.
Be better Joe.
CG says
And of course, unlike almost anyone else who comments on political blogs, I have been completely consistent in criticizing both of Biden’s immediate predecessor’s, one of each party, for being ridiculously weak on Russia, to the detriment of the country they were leading.
Keith says
Who are all these people that are critical of Biden’s comments about Putin? Name some other than right wing Republicans who were completely silent while Trump sucked Putin’s dick?
Who are they?
I can only find nothing but praise for Biden from our foreign allies and the press.
Be better Joe!! How laughable coming from someone who discusses foreign policy based on his sister-in-law’s travels overseas.
Let’s get serious Corey, you who accuses everyone else of tribalism and then runs off to sulk, cannot stand it that Biden has been so successful.
Keith says
Still nothing but rave reviews for Joe Biden in Europe, for Jill too.
But the foreign policy experts here seem to think Joe should only say mean things about Putin leading up to their Summit.
Really? That’s not how it works.
jamesb says
One would think that Biden is moving in the foot steps of Hillary and Obama in throwing down at the Russian leader who in actuality seems to waging a silent war against the West on line and in the Middle East….
The being ‘nice’ to Putin left on Jan 20th…
Biden talks to media informally all the time …
He does NOT need any formal press conferences where reports can look to earn points with ‘gotcha’ questions…
He does things the old fashion way with daily press briefings with staff,..
Like and old shoe?
Joe Biden fits good right now…..
At home and yes Keith
Abroad…..
Amen😃
Keith says
This simply and totally contradicts everything you posted yesterday about the G-7, NATO, and the Summit.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Biden seems to do press conferences about as much as most presidents (how often did Barack Obama hold one?), but is wise not to have a joint one with V. Putin.
Either Biden, at such a conference, would gratuitously aggravate old sores that he and Putin have been trying to heal, or he says nice, polite things about Putin that Biden really doesn’t want to increase in public. The opportunities for damaging photos and video clips would also increase in either case [out of context, Biden might look deliberately belligerent or else far too eager to please.]
I’m sure that Biden will answer questions from the press (including the Russian press) after the summit, but by himself.
jamesb says
Joe Biden has only done ONE formal Press conference …3 in total ….
He does do press ‘availablties’…..
Obama did almost 100 in 8 years
Trump did 44 in 4 years
Link…
Yup DSD….
Less seems to be MORE….
For NOW….
