He did Stimulus, he”l Geta trimed down Infrastructure program…
But?
That may be the end…..
And?
With their slim margins?
And Republicans looking to rig next years midterm elections?
And Trump sidelined….
Democrats have their work cut out for themselves….
The reports says simply that Republicans have been successful in’ branding’ Democrats in negative terms….Several protest movement’s simply scared voters and GOPer’s tagged Democratic candidates to the violence in those movements….
I, for one, disagree with the report point that the party was wrong to run so strong against Trump….That HELPED Biden and bring out more voters…
This report comes from the progressive and minority part of the party one should note….
The ‘Defund the Police’ rehotirc seems to be a major point in this and many are action. reports…It IS compounded by the higher level of crime across America going into the Summer….
This report …
Even by progressive groups the author of the below piece SHOULD point to a LESS left leaning and more inclusive 2022 need for Democrats to campaign on….Not just the traditional Democratic base
…
Democrats defeated President Donald J. Trump and captured the Senate last year with a racially diverse coalition that delivered victories by tiny margins in key states like Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin.
In the next election, they cannot count on repeating that feat, a new report warns.
A review of the 2020 election, conducted by several prominent Democratic advocacy groups, has concluded that the party is at risk of losing ground with Black, Hispanic and Asian American voters unless it does a better job presenting an economic agenda and countering Republican efforts to spread misinformation and tie all Democratic candidates to the far left….
…
In part, the study found, Democrats fell short of their aspirations because many House and Senate candidates failed to match Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s support with voters of color who loathed Mr. Trump but distrusted the Democratic Party as a whole. Those constituencies included Hispanic voters in Florida and Texas, Vietnamese American and Filipino American voters in California, and Black voters in North Carolina.
Overall, the report warns, Democrats in 2020 lacked a core argument about the economy and recovering from the coronavirus pandemic — one that might have helped candidates repel Republican claims that they wanted to “keep the economy shut down,” or worse. The party “leaned too heavily on ‘anti-Trump’ rhetoric,” the report concludes.
“Win or lose, self-described progressive or moderate, Democrats consistently raised a lack of strong Democratic Party brand as a significant concern in 2020,” the report states. “In the absence of strong party branding, the opposition latched on to G.O.P. talking points, suggesting our candidates would ‘burn down your house and take away the police.’”…
…
Largely unaddressed in the report is the immense deficit Democrats face among lower-income white voters. In its conclusion, however, Mr. Marshall and Ms. Tran write that Democrats need to deliver a message that includes working-class whites and matches the G.O.P.’s clear “collective gospel” about low taxes and military strength.
“Our gospel should be about championing all working people — including but not limited to white working people — and lifting up our values of opportunity, equity, inclusion,” they write….

House votes to remove statues of Confederate leaders from U.S. Capitol
The House on Tuesday passed legislation to remove statues of Confederate leaders from the U.S. Capitol and replace the bust of Roger B. Taney, the U.S. chief justice who wrote the 1857 Supreme Court decision that said people of African descent are not U.S. citizens.
The vote was 285 to 120, with 67 Republicans joining Democrats in backing the measure. A similar bill passed the House last year on a 305-to-113 vote but did not advance in the Senate, then controlled by Republicans.
Upon reintroducing the bill this year, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) pointed to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, during which some supporters of then-President Donald Trump carried Confederate flags….

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) — Gov. Tony Evers made it official, announcing his re-election bid on a virtual stage at the State Democratic Convention Saturday.
“Wisconsin, I’m in,” Evers said during his remarks at the virtual state Democratic convention. “I’m running for re-election.”
Evers said he’s running again because his work is far from over as he’s hoping to be the one who can continue to block Republican proposal he believes are not in the best interest of Wisconsinites.
“The stakes are just too damn high, we’re up against another decade of rigged maps, we’re up against stripping protections for preexisting conditions and a women’s right to choose.”
Throughout Evers three years in office he’s faced GOP opposition to many of his priorities such as expanding the BadgerCare Plus program and legalizing marijuana, but one accomplish Evers did tout was his ability to strike a new deal with Foxconn. …

Liz Cheney Is Wrong to Oppose the House Iraq AUMF Repeal
By JACK BUTLER
“The Cornet”, National Review (!!)
June 17, 2021 3:07 PM
[On Thursday, 49 Republicans joined almost all Democratic House members in voting to repeal the 2002 Authorization of the Use of Military Force (AUMF) while 160 Republicans voted against. https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2021172
Ironically or not, the sponsor of the repeal bill was Cong. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland-Berkeley), who succeeded Ron Dellums and was the only member of either House to vote against authorizing the use of force against the Taliban in 2001. As far as I know, the repeal has not yet gone before the Senate. Of course, it’s easy to understand Liz Cheney’s stand since her father was so intimately involved in the G.W. Bush response to 9/11.— DSD]
… I went on to note that Gaetz is hardly one’s ideal exemplar of this (or frankly any) view, and my mind has not changed about that. So I would instead like to focus on the fact that other, far more respectable Republican members, such as Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, were also among a large, bipartisan House majority that voted in favor of repealing the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in Iraq. This AUMF was passed as justification for the War in Iraq, which, you may have noticed, has ended — at least for the purposes of the conflict the AUMF was intended to justify.
Liz Cheney was not among this group. Herewith her rationale:
I am skeptical. If anything has signaled weakness abroad, it has been the U.S. military’s inability to prosecute a war effort successfully and definitively. One of the rationales for repealing AUMFs, apart from the more obvious one that the power to declare war belongs properly to Congress, is that the constitutional ambiguity they entail is directly linked to the strategic ambiguity that has marked American war efforts in the Middle East in the 21st century thus far. Congress’s delegating a blank check, essentially, to the executive to make war allows for the kind of indefinite, aimless military engagements that turn Onion headlines about sons patrolling the same routes in Afghanistan as their fathers into reality — and without much to show for it.
It is an indictment of Congress, to some extent, that it has been lazy in reclaiming this power. And maybe there is a case for the kind of open-ended military engagements that have marked American war-making of late (though that case seems dubious to me, at best). But if there is such a case, it should be made in Congress, where the aims and ends of war can be deliberated, decided, delineated, and then funded in the same venue. (Stop laughing. Maybe this is aspirational, but we should not succumb to the soft bigotry of low expectations here, to revive another item from the Bush years.) The president has a role in this, as commander in chief, but this fact should not preclude efforts to restrain the president’s powers to a more proper extent. If Liz Cheney opposes such efforts, it is to her discredit. Whatever the merits of such recalcitrance, it ultimately affirms a status quo that is increasingly untenable, as many of Cheney’s Republican colleagues have begun to realize.

Pence Urges Republicans to Unite against ‘Tidal Wave of Left-Wing Policies’
By RYAN MILLS, National Review
June 18, 2021 2:41 PM
Kissimmee, Fla. – Former vice president Mike Pence accused President Joe Biden’s administration of unleashing a “tidal wave of left-wing policies” that threaten to make the country less safe and less prosperous, and he urged freedom-loving patriots nationwide to stand together to stop it during a speech Friday afternoon at the Faith & Freedom Conference in Florida.
“The time has come for every American dedicated to faith and freedom to stand up and be heard and turn back the agenda of the radical Left,” Pence said to about 2,000 conservative activists and faith leaders in attendance. “The time has come to end Democrat majorities on Capitol Hill, and the road to majority starts right here and right now.”
Pence was the last of about 15 prominent speakers on the first day of the conference, being held in Kissimmee, near Orlando. The beginning of his speech was interrupted by a heckler who loudly called the former vice president a “traitor,” presumably over his refusal in January to attempt to overturn Donald Trump’s election loss.
Pence thanked the conference attendees for their support and prayers, and called serving as Trump’s vice president “the greatest honor of my life.” He touted the Trump administration’s record of shrinking unemployment and raising incomes before the coronavirus pandemic hit. He said that under the Trump administration, they strengthened the military and helped to secure the U.S. border. They fought for pro-life policies, stood strong with Israel, and launched Operation Warp Speed, which Pence described as the greatest national mobilization since World War II and a “medical miracle.”
But, he said, that record is threatened by the Biden administration, which has committed to “$6 trillion in runaway spending,” proposed massive tax increases, proposed to cut military funding while at the same time providing taxpayer funding for abortion, and canceled Trump-era policies that helped to secure the southern border.
“In just 148 days the Biden and Harris administration has unleashed a tidal wave of left-wing policies that threaten to wipe out all of the progress that we’ve made for a safer, more prosperous, more secure America,” Pence said. “Democrats have been so busy unleashing their liberal agenda, sometimes I feel like the left hand doesn’t know what the far left hand is doing.”
Biden campaigned as a moderate, Pence said, but he’s governed as one of the most left-wing presidents in American history.
“I don’t believe for one moment that’s what the American people voted for in 2020,” he said.
Of course they didn’t, silly; they overwhelmingly voted to re-elect you and Hero-President Trump. But some disloyal, ungrateful politicians like you wouldn’t stop the greatest election steal in history. 😉

POLL: Majority of Dems, Non-White Voters Support Voter ID Laws
By ZACHARY EVANS
National Review
June 21, 2021
A majority of Democrats and non-white voters support requiring voters to present photo identification in order to cast a ballot, according to a Monmouth University Polling Institute survey released on Monday.
The survey asked respondents whether “in general” they “support or oppose requiring voters to show a photo ID in order to vote.” Among respondents, 62 percent of Democrats said they support requiring photo ID, while the number rose to 87 percent among Independents and 91 percent among Republicans.
Additionally, 84 percent of non-white respondents said they supported requiring photo ID, along with 77 percent of white respondents. People with college degrees were less likely to support ID requirements, with 69 percent of respondents with four years of college supporting compared with 85 percent of respondents with no degree.
The survey was conducted by phone from June 9th to 14th, and comprised 810 American adult respondents. The poll’s margin of error is 3.5 percentage points….

Schenectady had a well-grounded Socialist mayor, Rev. George Lunn, before World War I.
Walter Lippman worked for him before moving to New York and The New Republic.
Lunn even had the support of General Electric’s president, since (like some businessmen elsewhere) he preferred a clean, effective city government than one run ineffectively by corrupt old-party machines. A friend of mine who came from Schenectady remembered some old Italian-American residents who liked Mayor Lunn because he made the refuse collectors pick up inside people’s yards, rather than out on the sidewalk.
Like many pre-war Socialist politicians, union leaders, clerics and intellectuals, Lunn drifted (or broke) away from the Party towards Woodrow Wilson and became a Democratic congressman around 1920.

He was later re-elected Mayor as a Democrat.

Stupid Republican politician of the week (tough competition): my candidate is Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana, chairman of the Republican Study Committee
Even Chris Wallace had difficulty on Fox News Sunday trying to get Banks to say anything useful about reducing crime and violence beyond blaming it all on left-wing socialist Democrats and endorsing all police everywhere all the time.
Better a free five-minute attack ad on national TV than pertinent policy proposals. (Is Donald listening?)
CHRIS WALLACE: President Biden blames the rise in homicides and shootings across the country on the easy availability of guns and the reaction to a year of COVID.
Joining us now, Congressman Jim Banks, out of the Republican Study Committee in the House, who has a different view of the problem and the solution.
Congressman, welcome back to “FOX News Sunday.” I want to start the same way I started with Cedric Richmond. Why do you think there has been such a sharp increase in the number of shootings and homicides in this country over the last 18 months?
REP. JIM BANKS (R-IN), CHAIRMAN, REPUBLICAN STUDY COMMITTEE: Well, Chris, first of all, I agree with Joe Biden. Senator Biden in 2002 wrote an op-ed and he said more cops clearly means less crime. You will not hear Joe Biden say that today, because today Joe Biden is being held hostage in the White House by the Squad and the radicals in the Democrat Party who control their party, who have spent the last year stigmatizing one of the most honorable professions in America, in our law enforcement.
It’s not just about defunding the police, which they fully support, but over the last year they’ve talked about stripping qualified immunity, protections for police officers who do their job. They talk about cashless — cashless warrants and decreasing —
WALLACE: Bail.
BANKS: — sentences as well. Cashless bail, excuse me, and decreasing sentences. It’s a recipe that criminals in every city in America are liking what Democrats are selling. And that’s why you’re seeing unprecedented crime waves across America, murder rates this year alone that are higher than anything that we’ve seen before because we’ve taken police officers off the streets. And now Joe Biden wants to take guns away from law-abiding gun owners who have guns to protect themselves.
WALLACE: But, Congressman Banks, let me push back on that a little bit because in the program that he announced this week, the president said that the central part of his anti-crime package is the $350 billion in the American Rescue Plan, the COVID relief plan that was passed.
Take a look at what the president said.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JOE BIDEN, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: It means more police officers, more nurses, more counselors, more social workers, more community violence interrupters to help resolve issues before they escalate into crimes.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WALLACE: Congressman Banks, you voted against that package, against that $350 billion, just like every other Republican in the House and Senate, so can’t you make the argument that it’s you and the Republicans who are defunding the police?
BANKS: Not at all, Chris. I mean, let’s go back again and look at the last year and the record of comments that Democrats have made from Rashida Tlaib, who said that —
(CROSSTALK)
WALLACE: No, No, wait, sir, respectfully —
BANKS: — policing is inherently evil.
WALLACE: Wait, wait, sir, respectfully, I heard you make that point but I’m asking you, there’s $350 billion in this package the president says can be used for policing. And let me put up some of the specific things he said.
BANKS: Chris, the point that I’m making is important.
WALLACE: Congressman Banks, let me finish and then I promise I’ll give you a chance to answer. The president is saying cities and states can use this money to hire more police officers, invest in new technologies and develop summer job training and recreation programs for young people. Respectfully, I’ve heard your point about the last year, but you and every other Republican voted against this $350 billion.
BANKS: When Representative Omar says that policing is rooted in evil and Nancy Pelosi compares police officers to Nazi stormtroopers, it makes it very difficult for police departments around the country to recruit people to become police officers. And that’s the crisis that we find a in police departments all over America. You can give them more funding, and that’s good, but if they can’t recruit people to become a police officer because we’ve stigmatized one of the most honorable professions in America, than we are at a dangerous point.
And that is directly related to the rise in violent crime across America. If we turn a blind eye to law and order and a blind eye to riots that occurred in cities last summer, and we take police officers off the street, we are inevitably going to see crime rise.
WALLACE: You say that more gun controls are not the answer. You heard former Congressman Richmond say that guns and the easy availability of guns is one of the biggest issues. You say that more gun control is not the issue and that most of the crimes are committed with handguns, not with assault weapons, but I think you’d agree that assault weapons create an enormous amount of damage, especially in these mass shootings, and, you know, perhaps if we had stricter background checks that some of the people who shouldn’t have handguns wouldn’t have handguns. Is there any gun control that you can support?
BANKS: Well, remember, Chris, that in 1994 when Joe Biden ushered through the so-called assault weapons ban, later the Department of Justice came out and said it did nothing to decrease violent crime. We know that 75 percent of gun crimes are committed with guns that are illegally obtained to begin with, so what I’m saying is that if we are serious about reducing violent crime in America, then Joe Biden will go on a national public relations campaign, admonish the radical voices in the Democrat (ph) Party that have stigmatized police officers and law enforcement.
That’s the first step toward reducing violent crime is to support police officers, back the blue. That’s what Republicans are doing. I have the only bill in Congress, by the way, to codify —
WALLACE: Right.
BANKS: — qualified immunity protections for our law enforcement agencies, and for our law enforcement agents. And I invite Republicans and Democrats, sign on as a cosponsor, show your support for our police officers and our law enforcement. If we do that we can reduce violent crime…

What a fucking idiot……
I don’t know how Wallace could just sit there and keep at the guy….
He IS what Trump ‘leads’?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Maybe we could make “Stupid Republican Politician of the Week” into a regular Sunday afternoon (i.e. post talk-show) feature or poll.
No lack of material.
jamesb says
I’m up for it…..
jamesb says
Ur up….
Thanks….
Should easily have contestants vying for the post spotlight….
CG says
No desire for bipartisanship?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’m sure, CG, that if you could find equally dumb quotations from a Democrat, Libertarian, Green, nati0nalist, socialist, communist or anarchist, it would be carefully considered (and if victorious, cause the contest title to be suitably altered).

I saw this and thought of our resident Missourian – one of only two people from Missouri that I know.
Missouri led the country in per capita COVID-19 new cases this past week. Yet the high case rate was not uniform statewide. Metropolitan areas such as St. Louis, Kansas City and Columbia all had low COVID-19 new case rates, but rural Missouri areas got hammered.
Scott P says
Yes Zreebs–SW Missouri is being particularly hard hit. No surprise those areas are also have low rates of vaccination.

Pride Parties and Protests Bring Excitement Back to N.Y.C. Streets
New York’s Pride celebrations and protests came back with a vengeance over the weekend, after a muted celebration last year because of the pandemic.
Tens of thousands of people took over the streets of Greenwich Village on Sunday, starting impromptu dance parties and embracing the freedom of being together again…

The Supreme Court won’t hear a case challenging transgender bathroom rights.
The Supreme Court turned down a request from a Virginia school board to reinstate its policy barring a transgender boy from using the boys’ bathroom.
As is the court’s practice, it gave no reasons for declining to hear the appeal. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. said they would have granted the school board’s petition seeking Supreme Court review.
An appeals court had ruled that the policy violated the Constitution and a federal law by prohibiting the student, Gavin Grimm, from using the same bathrooms as other boys. The school said Mr. Grimm could use a private bathroom.
The Supreme Court had agreed to hear an earlier appeal in the case but dismissed it in 2017 after the Trump administration changed the federal government’s position on transgender rights. The Biden administration has since adopted policies protecting transgender students….

Anybody hear John Kerry’s name mentioned anywhere recently?
My Name Is Jack says
No,is there any reason we would?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’d forgotten that he’s now the U.S. Special Representative on Climate Change.
It seems likely that we’ll see and hear more of him as the next international climate conference approaches [or if he pulls off some miraculous deal with India, China or Brazil.]
As a bilingual former U.S. Secretary of State, he already must have a long list of significant foreign (let alone domestic) acquaintances.

So, at what time today is the press conference scheduled for Andrew Cuomo to announce his party change?
jamesb says
Right NOW?
I expect the NYS Governor to win another term after all this ….
jamesb says
Andrew Cuomo remains in office and had a fundraiser last night…..
NYS lawmakers and AG probes continue
The FBI is looking at the Nursing home figures rollout…..
I continue to believe that the man will probably
CG says
And you would be fine with that james, as long as he is a Democrat.,, right?
jamesb says
CG?
I have NEVER voted for him….
And I AM a Democrat….
I do NOT like the man as a person…..
CG says
Who did you vote for in all the general elections when Andrew Cuomo was on the ballot? The Republican? (You have also said that you have never voted for Gillibrand I believe… but somehow have a special DNC ID card)
*If* he is once again the nominee in 2022, will you vote for his Republican opponent?
jamesb says
Skipped THAT one…..
CG says
So, you are saying you did not vote in all of the elections where Andrew Cuomo ran for Attorney General and Governor? That is a lot of elections to have skipped.
What about 2022? You say you “do not like the man as a person.” I brought myself to vote for Joe Biden because I felt that way about Donald Trump.
Would you do the same and vote for Lee Zeldin?
jamesb says
For HIM….
CG says
So, is that a yes or a no? If Cuomo is on the ballot in November, would you vote for a Republican? As mentioned, I voted for Biden against Trump.
jamesb says
CG?
I just do NOT vote for CUOMO….
That’s ALL….
CG says
So you skip a lot of races? Write someone in? what do you do?
I wrote someone in for 2016 when the choices were Trump and Hillary and do not regret doing that, but in 2020, I actually voted for Biden, after previously thinking I could not bring myself to do so.
Any chance then you would vote for Cuomo’s 2022 opponent?
(for the record, I do not think Cuomo will be running for reelection)
The claim that you have never voted for Cuomo seems to be a new one for me to hear here. Does anyone else remember this being said previously?
jamesb says
For the last time….
I just skip THAT Line….
CG says
You do not feel like that is a cop-out?
Cuomo has been the nominee for statewide office in 5 or 6 elections now.
CG says
Cuomo vs. Paladino, I would understand.
CG says
Did you vote for his dad?
jamesb says
Yes….
jamesb says
Don’t care about a cop out….
I do NOT LIKE the guy….
CG says
Rest in Peaec, Donald Rumsfeld
CG says
Peace also
jamesb says
Rumsfeld has passed….
Scott P says
Peace wasn’t really his thing in this life.
CG says
Among his many contributions to public service, Rumsfeld twice led the Department of Defense.
But nice though for Dennis Kucinch (“turn the Defense Department into the Peace Department”) to weigh in here.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney were, I think, Gerald Ford’s principal advisors at the start of his Presidency (Aug. 1974 to Jan. 1977).
