Yeah but in all those previous cycles Trump figured teasing a run was more profitable than actually running. .
Now thanks to the modern GOP he has found out that it’s a bigger grift to actually run and publicly fleece Republicans.
Also thanks to the Republicans he doesn’t even need to take positions on any issues other than basic white grievance.
He can fleece plenty of people by not running.
He is likely to have significant legal problems soon enough. The sense I get, even from die-hard Trumpists, is that as much as they love him, that DeSantis (or someone else) would be the better option for ’24.
Of course many die-hard Trumpists are convinced the system is rigged and no Republican will be allowed to win anyway so its all pointless.

Not even Donald J Trump….
DeSantis probably would not run if Trump runs, (he would be his running-mate and DeSantis is still in his early 40s) but I do not think anyone “in the know” really thinks Trump is actually going to run again.
Donald Trump Jr has said that if his father does not run, that he, Trump Jr, would support DeSantis. Having DJT Jr on the list of potential candidates is thus pointless since he said that.
Of course, DeSantis has to get reelected in Florida next year first. The track record of Charlie Crist and Florida Democrats is not a very inspiring one for those who wish to stop that from happening.
