The vaccine program is a small part of the companies drug product business…
Pfizer expects to apply to the Food and Drug Administration in September for emergency authorization to administer its coronavirus vaccine to children between the ages of 2 and 11, the company told Wall Street analysts and reporters on Tuesday during its quarterly earnings call.
The company said it also plans to apply this month for full approval of the vaccine for use in people from ages 16 to 85. And it said it expected to have clinical trial data on the safety of its vaccine in pregnant women by early August.
By early next week, the F.D.A. is expected to issue an emergency use authorization allowing the vaccine to be used in children 12 to 15 years old, a major step ahead in the U.S. fight against Covid.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is being given to adults under an emergency use authorization that the companies received in December. Obtaining full F.D.A. approval would, among other things, allow the companies to market the vaccine directly to consumers. The approval process is expected to take months….
The company did not disclose the profits it derived from the vaccine, but it reiterated its previous prediction that its profit margins on the vaccine would be in the high 20 percent range. That would translate into roughly $900 million in pretax vaccine profits in the first quarter.
Pfizer has been widely credited with developing an unproven technology that has saved an untold number of lives….

There is a report that Biden will support taking away patent guards for Covid vaccines….
The response has been immediate..
Pfizer, Biontech, Novavax, Moderna shares plunge to session lows after U.S. backs waiving patent protections on Covid vaccines cnb.cx/3b4Cb5C

Let’s see if the President does this cause those companies share holders just lost a shit load of money
jamesb says
Now the wording is ‘easing’ the patent rules…
This is a developing story
The EU and others are against this right now
It will be a matter of well to do countries bs poorer ones
bdogwork says
yeah Pfizer leveled off today, but that is pretty bad news for the company…but it doesn’t mean Moderna and Pfizer can’t fight it legally…cause if they do it…why can’t they do it for any and all life threatening diseases…
bdogwork says
And if the US makes its leading biotech companies share it’s important MRNA technology with others, you don’t think China will some how get its hands on tech and rip it off…they certainly will…that would be a bad move by the Biden admin…
The EU at least sees my way 9especially since Germany developed the Pfizer vaccine…
jamesb says
I think Biden means well but he will have to back away some how…
Some will take this as a bad moce
Send extra vaccines to other countries by all means….
But the parent giveaway will make money and cause production problems down the road maybe…
This is not well thought out…
jamesb says
BTW?
The US Govt DID supply money to some companies research….
I know the deal was the shots are free
I don’t know what other was in the deal or who actually owns the patents?
bdogwork says
Novavax hasn’t made a dime from their vaccine yet, and if they can’t sell it cause other places make it cheaper…they are kind of fucked…that’s an American company we would be hurting…American biotech is still world class…this would be a small shift, but a shift nonetheless…
jamesb says
Yup Bdog…
This is about BILLIONS
It won’t be an off the cuff call in the end…
We’ll see….

James,
I agree we have ordered 100 million doses of Astrazeneca Vaccine, it will never be used in the US, we can send that entire vaccine to other countries.
We also ordered 100 million of Novavax which will soon be approved and start moving out the factories, the US can sell that supply at cost or cheaper to other nations…but to give people access to our technologies that will find its way into the hands of our competitors is a bad move…
We don’t give Ukraine all our military patents because they are at war with Russia…The vaccine is a vital national security resource…
jamesb says
Send the excess..
We already did that with Canada and Mexico…
bdogwork says
Prizer/Biontech didn’t receive any US Money, biontech might have received EU money for development, not sure, but no US money for development went to Pfizer for the vaccine…J&J, Moderna, Novavax, etc did get federal money for research…
