Hamas keeps firing rockets….
The Israeli’s keep dropping bombs….
American President Biden can only stand on the sidelines and as for a cease fire…
Biden has has unable to stop Israel’s actions in the region….
The Israeli’s have taken upon themselves to deal with Iran’s nuclear weapon efforts by getting rid of that countries scientist’s a crippling their technical bomb making efforts….
That why Biden has been trying reconstruct a ‘deal….
The Israeli’s are returning Hamas’s rocket firing first with a ‘iron fist’ response to punish and take out those they feel have pushed the rocket attacks…
These actions by Israeli have the added political positive for the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who under indictment and losing in the recent election, now stands to stay in power for longer…
Donald Trump’s Israel and Arabs policy efforts were a failure…
So far?
So are Joe Biden’s….
Israeli fighter jets pounded targets in the Gaza Strip and Hamas militants fired rockets and mortars at cities in southern Israel on Tuesday, as Palestinian demonstrators staging a general strike in solidarity with Gaza faced off against Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli military said 62 fighter jets dropped 110 “guided armaments” overnight and early Tuesday on targets in Gaza, including Hamas commanders, rocket launchpads and the militant group’s tunnel network in the territory.
Here’s what to know:
Note…
Except for talking….
The Biden admin foreign policy across the board has been wanting…..
Update…
Monday the administration had approved the sale of $735 million of precision-guided weapons to Israel on May 5 — drawing still more criticism of Biden from Democrats questioning U.S. support for Netanyahu….
…
White House aides declined to speak on the record to detail why the president, known to love Israel but mistrust Netanyahu, had not publicly called for a cease-fire. But at least three factors appear to have shaped the administration’s diplomacy…
…
“As a majority of Democratic senators call for a cease-fire in the fighting between Israel and Hamas militants, a group of 20 Republican senators is pushing for a vote this week on a resolution expressing support for Israel,” John Wagner reports.
jamesb says
Any doubts on America’s unwavering support for Israel?
A group of senior House Democrats on Tuesday backed off a burgeoning effort to push for a delay in the Biden administration’s latest weapons sale to Israel amid intensifying violence in the region, further underscoring the intraparty rift over U.S.-Israel relations.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said he decided against requesting that President Joe Biden delay the $735 million arms sale after the White House offered to hold an “informational session” for lawmakers on Wednesday.….
Politico
Zreebs says
Yes, It sure looks like Biden will continue the Trump policy. Shame on him and on the Democrats. This has more to do with the (probably correct) political calculation that most Americans could care less about Arab civil rights, so let’s support the group that will give us more money and votes. The hell with doing what’s right – as long as we sometimes pretend that we care.
jamesb says
As a pointed out before?
80% of American Jews vote Democratic
Most of them have support FOR Israel regardless
No American President will walk away from them…
CG says
Jews make up about 2 percent of the U.S. population.
To ascribe such power to them and such selfish motivations is of course very old-fashioned anti-Semitism and of course is despicable for me to see here. If you do not recognize it, you need to look deeper.
Of course if Hamas had its way, there would be zero percent of Jews in the United States or anywhere in the world. Israel, the sole true democracy in the Middle East has always been a key ally of the United States for a variety of reasons and of course there are many reasons why Americans support Israel so strongly beyond the old myth of “The Jews”, although of course it is understandable why the American people would take an interest in wanting to see the prevention of the elimination of the entire Jewish race and religion, which is part and parcel with the survival of Israel.
Zreebs says
No one I know wants to see the elimination of the Jewish people or religion. And don’t think there aren’t a lot of Jews in Israel who wouldn’t welcome the elimination of Arabs from their country.
CG says
Willfully turning a blind eye to reality is of course the height of ignorance. Any Jew who would want any non-Jew out is Israel is of course morally wrong, but there is not even the smidgen of moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas.
Again, you do not understand that the survival of Israel as a Jewish state is part and parcel with the survival of Judaism and Jews.. all Jews, because you have never had to think about it.
In the meantime, people in this country, who buy into the myth about Jewish power and Jewish money and lies about “apartheid” are vandalizing synagogues and Jewish cemeteries now this week. Incitement of violence in the times we live in extends beyond the lies and delusions on other matters of Donald Trump.
jamesb says
My numbers speak for themself….
Hillary Clinton lost states by small margins
If Jews vote in block favoring a President who WOULD stand by Israel ?
WTF would ANY President take the risk against Israel…
In fact?
NO President HAS….
Just explaining the historical fact….
America HAS good solid relation’s with most Middle Eastern states also….
This isn’t anything actually about religion….
Read Ur history…..
The Palestinian’s where shunned by other Arab countries in the past….
There are no ‘good guys’ in this
Firing rockets at a country will likely get a response
Zreebs says
James, I Am aware that Palestinians were shunned by other Arab countries.
Yes. Firing rockets at a country will likely get a response. I never said that the Jews don’t have the right to defend themselves. Likewise, illegally evicting people from homes will also have implications.
In response to CG, I said that “Americans” could care less about Arab civil rights. Americans includes more than just Jewish people.
Zreebs says
US Presidents have often applied pressure to Israel.
jamesb says
Yes indeed……
THAT is a prime reason Biden does NOT trust Netanyahu……
Back in the day ….
Obama sent VP Biden to lean on the Israeli’s to not increase settlements on the West Bank…
The Israeli’s talked to Biden who thought he had a ‘deal’….
As soon as Air Force 2 took off?
The Israeli announced new settlements….
As i have pointed out
Israel tends to do what it wants with the Ace of American Jewish political support and the memory of the ladt days of the 7 Day War with Egypt….
CG says
Again, Jews make up 2 percent of the U.S. and not even all American Jews are pro-Israel (JStret for example)
Yet you claim that these Jews have all this power and also at the same time that American Jews are somehow loyal to another country and government over that of the United States and you do not see your anti-Semitism james? Then again, there are a lot of things about yourself that you are in the dark about.
CG says
There has been and continues to be tremendous division in Israel in regards to Netanyahu personally and in regards to domestic matters. I said over a year ago that I hoped Netanyahu would be replaced as Prime Minister.
There is nobody around in Israel who may possible replace him who would be handling this situation any differently. Nobody should pretend otherwise. The person who almost took Netanyahu out politically not long ago is now the Defense Minister.
jamesb says
Actually Bibi couldn’t form a government two weeks ago….
The OPPOSTION guy, Not Bibi was chosen to pick a government…
Not Gantz….
Now?
Hamas has assured a indicted Israeli PM stays in office longer….
Ya can’t make this stuff up….
Keith says
I am not so sure that Biden will continue whatever it was that Jared Kushner was doing with regard to Israel. But it’s clear Bibi and Hamas want this conflict for their own domestic political reasons. This is Chicago politics with short range rockets.
The fact that we have someone here accusing our host of being anti-Semitic is rich however. That would be the same person who has denied for close to a decade that his party uses racist messaging to win elections. Strange he can so clearly see one thing but deny the other.
Bibi can go fuck himself, because he is handing Hamas a powerful weapon to use against the interests of Israel. But Bibi’s personal political interests, like in the case of most Republican leaders, come before the interests of the Nation.
Zreebs says
No. kushner will no longer be in charge of developing a peace plan, and if a peace plan is developed, it will include Palestinians in the talks. but it looks like Biden will keep our embassy in Jarusalem, and I have no reason to believe that Biden will pressure Israel-for actions such as Palestinian evictions in Jarusalem, or new Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Keith says
I believe he will Zreebs. Will it be as fast and forceful as we might like? No. But he’s about to move on this. Listen to what he said yesterday in Detroit for clues.
He was handed a pile of shit by the Republicans who mismanaged the last Administration with their eyes on the buck. Give him a chance to correct our coarse.
jamesb says
Bernie NEVER had a chance with this….
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is dropping his bid to block a $735 million arms sale to Israel, capping off the long-shot Senate effort, an aide confirmed to The Hill.
Sanders will no longer try to force a vote on his resolution after being informed last week that the sale had been approved.
Sanders has also dropped a hold on State Department nominees that he had placed late last week after speaking with Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who discussed steps the administration is “preparing to take to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and across the Palestinian Territories.”….
bdog says
Keith, I’d add to your Chicago Style Politics and say it is very Machialvellian of both parties…
CG, I think you are taking James Statements out of context. He is merely pointing out that the Jewish Voting Block is not a block that anybody wants to piss off especially not the Dems who get a strong majority of American Jews voting for them…2% is still 2% and when elections are as close as they are, Democrats can’t afford to lose any block…this isn’t anti-semitism and fear mongering about Jewish Power in the US, it’s about 2% and a large majority of that 2% votes democratic…Simple…
Also, As mentioned above, Israel is a strategic partner (economic and military) of the US which dictates a certain policy consideration for any US president when deciding how much power and leverage they want to place on Israel…
But Zreebs may have said it best…If this conflict is resolved in the coming weeks/months, a majority of Americans will forget about this and move on…that may be crass because their are lives at stake on both sides, but it is the truth…few if any voting in local elections in 2021 or in H of R 2022 or senate are going to put the Israeli conflict with Hamas high on their voting consideration…
Keith says
Jews make up two percent of the population but we make up seven percent of Congress (out of 38 Members who identify as Jewish only 2 are Republicans).
So we do have an oversized impact on our government. I was always proud of that fact and remain surprised that there are even two Republican Jews in Congress.
In the years I worked there the staff also had an oversized Jewish representation. There are many reasons for this, just like there are other reasons gays are over represented on Congressional staffs. Not to mention Ms. Lindsay.
Those facts don’t change the underlying problems in the Middle East, but they help to explain why there is a reluctance to make any move that appears to contradict Israel.
But it certainly isn’t anti-Semitic to point out these facts as it was here yesterday.
I still remain convinced Biden will put pressure on Bibi to stop. That’s why Bibi is rushing to destroy as much Hamas infrastructure as possible as quickly as he can.
So yes, very Machiavellian.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I fear that after September 11th, the situation in Afghanistan will turn very bad.
The Taliban are likely to take over, but regional powers (e.g. India or Iran) and other meddlers, even without the US & Nato, will support some kind of resistance.
But I think the results of withdrawal (even of advisors and trainers) from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan — though initiated by an isolationist former president, which should but won’t immunize the current one from partisan criticism — might hurt the Administration as much as the catastrophe in Israel, Palestine and Gaza.
Stateside Americans have involvement in both arenas (just as they do in Central America and the Caribbean) because so many U.S. veterans and service members served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, while many American voters have relatives and close friends who are suffering in both Israel and Palestine. The Muslim and Arab vote in the U.S., though not as powerful as the Jewish one, is no longer negligible.
jamesb says
I share ur concern DSD for the Afghan’s….
I think Biden is wrong on how he’s handling this….
And no matter what?
It WILL BE on HIS watch….
Zreebs says
Keith,
I am curious ass to your theories as to why Jews are over-represented on Congressional staffs. I assume that one reason is that Jews are more likely than all other major religions (except for Unitarians) to to be highly educated. And Jews appear to be more likely than other religions) to have law degrees- which must be a valuable skill on Capitol Hill. Any other thoughts?
Why do you think that gays and lesbians are over-represented?
Keith says
Members of any minority with unfettered access to good education tend to gravitate in larger numbers to public careers that make or impact public policy. Especially policy that directly relates to the wellbeing of other minority groups.
Zreebs says
It looks like my data is old. Hindus now appear to be the most educated religion:
