The CDC had the ‘vaccinated ‘ people part in its recommendation….
Governor’s actually make the rules….
But?
Each day more and more it appears that for some?
They vaccinated part doesn’t matter…
This has been in the works as governor’s rush to reopen their states with virus numbers dropping to the low single digits for the last several months…
Even vaccine numbers are dropping…..
It seems that America wants to rush to the ‘all clear’…..
But?
Around my way?
People STILL wear their masks…
Gonna take a while for them to stop….
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, lifted his state’s indoor mask mandate for fully vaccinated people effective Saturday at 12 a.m. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, announced he was lifting the mandate for everyone effective Saturday, though masks are still “strongly recommended” for unvaccinated people.
The moves came a day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it is safe for fully vaccinated people to go maskless in any type of group gathering, indoors or outdoors. Close to 60 percent of American adults have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine and President Joe Biden has set a goal for 70 percent of American adults to get at least one dose by July 4.
Northam also announced that the state will lift all of its social distancing and capacity limitations May 28, and Hogan had announced earlier in the week that Maryland was lifting capacity restrictions Saturday. Businesses can still require masks, and the states will have exceptions for public transportation, health care facilities and schools.
“Virginians have been doing the right thing, and we’re seeing the results,” Northam said in a video on Twitter. “The vaccines are clearly working and they are saving lives.”
“Today is the day that so many of us have been waiting for and working toward,” Hogan said. “We finally do clearly see the light at the end of that tunnel.”
Also in the region, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Thursday that “we are immediately reviewing the CDC guidance and will update DC Health guidance accordingly.”
Costco and Walmart, which both have locations in the area and nationwide, also moved Friday to lift their mask mandates for fully vaccinated people.
In regions with no mask requirements, Costco will now allow customers that have been fully vaccinated to shop without a mask and won’t require any proof of vaccination….
Note….
Will there be a typical fall/winter resurgence of virus cases as virus’s tend to do?
And?
Is it coincidence that this CDC call came out right after the report that people where NOT in a rush to go back to work and shot numbers keep declining?

What I find most amusing about you is that in the early stages of the pandemic you were Pooh poohing the whole thing.
Now all of a sudden you are Mr Cautious.
Of course , Covid is a coronavirus which is more of a winter disease.Unvaccinated people are certainly more likely to suffer from any resurgence in the winter. What would be odd about that?

More on the virus going forward…
Covid-19 cases are decreasing in the United States, and masks are no longer required everywhere, but the pandemic is not over — and won’t be until younger children can also be vaccinated, epidemiologists said in a new survey by The New York Times.
The true end of the pandemic — when it becomes safer to return to most activities without precautions — will arrive once at least 70 percent of Americans of all ages are vaccinated, they said. Adolescents just began receiving vaccines this week, and those for children younger than 12 are not yet approved.
“Children are key to ending the pandemic,” said David Celentano, the chair of epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University and one of the 723 epidemiologists who participated in the survey this month.
They are optimistic this will happen, even if not as quickly as many Americans hope. In five years, they expect Covid-19 will be more like the flu, circulating at a lower rate and with some deaths every year — but no longer a public health crisis necessitating lockdowns….

My view is that it’s time for people to make up their own minds going forward based on their calculations of their own risk factors.
Essentially what these doctors are saying is that vaccinated people have a moral responsibility to protect those who refuse to be vaccinated.
That’s a nice sentiment ;however, is in my view entirely unrealistic ,especially in the long term.
However if someone wants to wear a mask for a year (or forever for that matter) ,that is a personal choice for them to make.

The discussions go on…
Coronavirus Today: Did the CDC move too quickly?
…California’s policy hasn’t changed just yet. But some fear that the CDC’s move will backfire and end up normalizing mask-free faces — without requiring vaccinations. After all, are businesses really going to want to check vaccine cards and risk alienating their customers?
Trader Joe’s won’t be checking. A representative of the national chain said on Friday it will not be requiring proof of vaccination “as we trust our customers to follow CDC guidelines.”
The grocery chain joined Walmart and Costco in announcing that fully vaccinated shoppers won’t need to wear masks in places where that’s allowed under state and local rules.
That might wind up widening the gap between the pandemic’s haves and have-nots. Some of the people less likely to be vaccinated in America are working-class people who have been too busy working or caring for family to get the vaccine, said Dr. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, chair of the UC San Francisco department of epidemiology and biostatistics. “Are we failing essential workers yet again?” she asked.
L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer shared that concern. With millions of unvaccinated people in L.A. County, she said, it makes sense to move more slowly and be sure there are rules in place to keep people as safe as possible.
Questions officials need to answer include what it would mean for employees working at a location who, for whatever reason, may not be able to get vaccinated. The solution shouldn’t be to create more risk of virus spread between unvaccinated people, Ferrer said. Rather, the goal is to find rules “so that everyone can feel pretty comfortable that we’re not having a lot of exposures that would be unnecessary.”
Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC director, acknowledged that more details are needed for how relaxing mask requirements indoors would realistically work in specific settings where it’s not clear who is vaccinated and who is not.
“This was a first step in our guidance.”
So we’ll see how all that goes….

I’m seeing a lot of pro science folks who masked up, steered clear of crowds and got the vaccine as soon as they could say they are going to keep wearing their mask indoors at public places like grocery stores, bars, restaurants and other places the CDC has said it is no longer necessary to do so.
That’s certainly their right. But I don’t plan on joining them.
jamesb says
Yes Scott
Same around my way except?
the Trumpists may not go along…
jamesb says
Jack IS Right
You use ur OWN brain….
Scott P says
Go along with what?
jamesb says
Wearing masks OUTSIDE ANYMORE
Scott P says
Well I’m not a Trumpist and I’m not wearing a mask in most cases anymore.
Of course I’m vaccinated.

Inside stores?

I also believe ,with no evidence I might add, just a personal belief from following these discussions in the past months, that a certain number of medical people have some lingering doubts about the vaccines actual efficacy ,despite the evidence that’s been presented.
Otherwise, to some extent, their views seemingly don’t coincide with at least what is being publicly revealed. If that be so, they need to share those concerns with the public.
However to publicly state that:
1) A vaccinated persons chance of contracting a serious case of Covid is far less likely than catching the flu.
2) A vaccinated persons chance of being hospitalized is less than being injure in a car crash or struck by lightning.
3) A vaccinated persons chance of dying is about the same as being the victim of a fatal attack by a shark.
4) A vaccinated person is highly unlikely to pass on an asymptomatic infection to an unvaccinated person or a child .
5) And then to sate that a vaccinated person need to keep wearing a mask?Makes no sense really.
Zreebs says
Jack I don’t think that all of the statements you said above are correct. Out of 75m Americans who were fully vaccinated, 74 have died of COVID-19. But that doesn’t mean that a fully vaccinated person’s chances of dying from COVID-19 is one in a million because some of those fully vaccinated people might still die later this year. We have only had 3 fatal shark attacks in the US last year. Lighting kills an average of 49 people in the US each year.
I plan to continue to wear a mask any time I go indoors (except for my home) unless it is impractical. I went to a restaurant last night, but while I was waiting for my food, I still wore a mask. We can’t possibly have good data on the risks of all of the new variants, but the UK and the India variants are especially concerning. My company has a lot of people working in India, and the number of deaths in India (and at my company) right now is much higher than what the US has seen. Those Indians weren’t likely vaccinated, but there is no way we can know about the effectiveness of the vaccine against the Indian variant at this time.
There are still a lot of unknowns. We might think the vaccines are extremely effective, but There is still a lot we don’t know. We know that the effect of the vaccine is at least 6 months but we don’t know if it is at least six months for All people.
I am concerned when the CDC makes overly-definitive Statements. I still recall that in February 2020, we were told by the CDC that wearing a mask doesn’t protect you; it only protects others.

I’m with DSD. with mask wearing…
Stores and at work?
Mask…
I have walked from day one without a mask OUTSIDE AWAY from anyone 6 feet or more….
Ate outSIDE this evening with family… No mask…
But wore it to go inside to speak to Applebee staff…

More rock and roll on CDC’s mask wearing suggestion…
The nation’s largest nurses union condemned the new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that stipulates fully vaccinated people do not have to wear masks in most settings.
National Nurses United (NNU) in a statement Saturday said it was concerned that it would put patients, front-line workers and nurses at risk amid a pandemic that is still present in the U.S.
“This newest CDC guidance is not based on science, does not protect public health, and threatens the lives of patients, nurses, and other frontline workers across the country,” said NNU Executive Director Bonnie Castillo. “Now is not the time to relax protective measures, and we are outraged that the CDC has done just that while we are still in the midst of the deadliest pandemic in a century.”…
