The House Democrats and several House Republicans have worked a ‘deal’ on its structure …
House Republican leader McCarthy won’t support effort….
(He will probably be called to testify in front of commission down the road)
But it appears that several Republican House members, who where in the building when the mob overran it, WILL vote with Democrats for the creation of the Congressional invention and report similar in nature to the two decades ago 9/11 Report….
Key House members announced a deal Friday to form an independent commission to probe the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, as lawmakers try to understand the failings that allowed a pro-Trump mob to overrun the building.
The panel will investigate the circumstances of the attack as well as the factors that led to it, according to Homeland Security Committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and ranking member John Katko, R-N.Y., who negotiated the deal.
The commission will consist of 10 members who cannot be current government officials. The majority Democrats will appoint five, including the chair, and Republicans will choose five, including the vice chair.
The group will have subpoena power and issue a report when it finishes the probe. The House is expected to vote on a bill setting up the commission as soon as next week.
“Inaction – or just moving on – is simply not an option,” Thompson said in a statement. “The creation of this commission is our way of taking responsibility for protecting the U.S. Capitol.”…

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday said he will not support bipartisan legislation for the 9/11-style commission to probe the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
“Given the political misdirections that have marred this process, given the now duplicative and potentially counterproductive nature of this effort, and given the Speaker’s shortsighted scope that does not examine interrelated forms of political violence in America, I cannot support this legislation,” McCarthy said in a statement released Tuesday morning…

A spokesperson for House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said Monday that Republicans are not being urged to vote for or against the bill. But McCarthy’s opposition will likely lead to more Republicans joining him in voting against it.
McCarthy’s opposition may make it difficult for Democrats to secure support of at least 10 GOP senators for passage in the upper chamber….

Update’s on the Capitol Commission….
The House on Wednesday is set to approve legislation to create a bipartisan investigation of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack in a vote that will re-expose the deep divisions in the GOP over former President Trump’s role in the event and influence in the party.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday announced his opposition to the legislation, which he says puts too much focus on the Jan. 6 attack that interrupted a joint session of Congress’s count of the Electoral College and forced the evacuation of the House and Senate.
McCarthy wants the commission’s scope to be broadened so that it can take in violence in Portland, Ore., and other U.S. cities, as well as the 2017 attack by a gunman on GOP lawmakers practicing for the Congressional Baseball Game and a more recent incident where a Capitol Police officer died.
Doing so would dilute the commission’s focus on both Jan. 6 and Trump, which has been a goal of the GOP’s….

More Commission stuff…
Former President Trump called for an immediate end to the debate over a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riot the night before the House is expected to approve the plan.
“Republicans in the House and Senate should not approve the Democrat trap of the January 6 Commission. It is just more partisan unfairness and unless the murders, riots, and fire bombings in Portland, Minneapolis, Seattle, Chicago, and New York are also going to be studied, this discussion should be ended immediately,” Trump said in a statement Tuesday night.
“Republicans must get much tougher and much smarter, and stop being used by the Radical Left. Hopefully, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy are listening!” he added….

McCarthy having defections problems?
Dozens of Republicans are privately considering voting for the Jan. 6 commission — which McCarthy himself said he opposed earlier Tuesday, even after he deputized one of his allies, Rep. John Katko of New York, to strike a bipartisan agreement on the proposal. In a sign of momentum, the bipartisan House Problem Solvers Caucus, of which Katko is a member, formally voted to endorse the legislation Tuesday evening….

Regardless of how many Republicans buck Trump on this issue, though, the bill is expected to pass the House. It’s fate in the 50-50 Senate is less clear.
While House GOP leadership is still not formally whipping against the legislation, their last-minute maneuvering is the latest signal that top Republicans are starting to grow nervous about how many members may end up crossing party lines, which would be a blow to McCarthy and could enrage Trump.
A big bipartisan vote in the House could also put more pressure on Senate Republicans to get behind the proposal.
As one GOP lawmaker put it: “The genie is out of the bottle, and people are trying to put it back in.”
Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.), who plans to vote in favor of establishing a commission, shrugged off McCarthy’s decision, saying, “everyone’s entitled to their opinions.”…

McCarthy’s stated reason for opposing the Jan. 6 commission is that Pelosi “refused to negotiate in good faith on basic parameters” for it.
Except Pelosi agreed to virtually all of the GOP’s demands:
*Equal representation
*Shared subpoena power
*Report due by year’s end

Trump ordered McCarthy to kill the Commission.
The stooge saluted and is carrying out his orders.
Simple.
Only question? How many Republicans will disobey the Party Leader.
As for McCarthy?Hes the “ceremonial” leader of House Republicans .Sort of like the old Soviet Union. They had a “President” but the real power was the General Secretary of the Party.?
McCarthy has a title .Trump leads the Party.

Still waiting for Trump to lose interest in politics. As CG said he would.

More on this…
Mitch McConnell has slammed the brakes on this Commission idea in the Senate where Democrats will need at least Ten Republican votes to move forward .
One would have thought that after Mitchs denunciation of Trump, essentially blaming him for the whole thing the night of Jan.6 and for days afterward, would likely make him a sponsor of this. One would be wrong of course.
See Mitch has joined fellow Trump denouncer Nikki Haley in realizing that where they were going ,few Republicans were following. Both thought that Jan. 6 had finished Trump off ,way underestimating his hold on their party.Nikki backtracked weeks ago after seeing her stock as a presidential candidate tank.(although Leader Trump still refuses to accept her mea culpa).
Mitch is signaling here his surrender.Republicans dont want to delve too much into the actions of their fellow Republicans in this insurrection, likely embarrassments galore.
Ahh when life was much simpler!
Remember the infamous “Benghazi Commission “ led by former Republican star of the future Trey “Bubba” Gowdy ( now Fox News carnival barker) with the assistance of the Hero of the Gym,Jimbo Jordan?
See that was a “necessity.”A mere mob of Trump Republican hoodlums attacking our Capitol and treatening the life of the VP.Not so much.

And remember, kids, that Russia had NOTHING to do with the 2016 campaign of Donald Trump, victim of the greatest witch-hunt in all of human history (forget Salem, forget the 1937 show trials in Stalin’s Russia).
