Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine will remain in limbo for a while longer after government health advisers declared Wednesday that they need more evidence to decide if a handful of unusual blood clots were linked to the shot — and if so, how big the risk really is.
The reports are exceedingly rare — six cases out of more than 7 million U.S. inoculations with the one-dose vaccine. But the government recommended a pause in J&J vaccinations this week, not long after European regulators declared that such clots are a rare but possible risk with the AstraZeneca vaccine, a shot made in a similar way but not yet approved for use in the U.S….

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory panel is coming under increased criticism for continuing a pause on the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that is keeping doses on the shelf while the pandemic rages.
Many experts backed the initial pause, announced on Tuesday, when it appeared that it would only last for a few days and would give time to alert health care providers to treatment guidelines around extremely rare cases of blood clots in people receiving the J&J vaccine.
But the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) decided to put off making a recommendation during a Wednesday meeting in order to gather more data, in practice keeping the pause in effect until the panel meets again in seven to 10 days and raising alarms among experts about a more substantial delay….

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said Thursday he will not renew the state’s mask mandate, and will let it expire on Friday.
“We’ll continue to work with public health to encourage social distancing and wearing of masks when appropriate. That will not change whatsoever. What does change is the government’s imposed requirement to do so,” Sununu said during a press conference….
…
… Sununu said all remaining restrictions on businesses will be lifted on May 7, and will become “universal best practices.”
By that date, he said 95 percent of New Hampshire residents who want the vaccine will have gotten their first shot….

Only a Right Wing extremist would believe that the government, taking positive action to protect public health ,is somehow infringing on their liberties.
Of course they don’t in reality.
This is extremism in its most ugly form guided by some crazed belief that combatting this virus is somehow “Librul.”
It was on glaring display when crypto authoritarian Jim Jordan began hectoring Dr. Fauci in a display sure to win him plaudits from the Fox News/ Entertainment crowd and from his lord and master Donald Trump.
I mean villainizing a damn scientist .Thats what the junk “conservative” movement has come to?I don’t always agree with Fauci ,but I think he is sincerely trying to do what he thinks is in the best interest of public health and he deserves better that having to take garbage from Domestic Terror enabler Trump,Rand Paul ,who gives new meaning to the word “prick,”and of course the likes of Jordan and his cries for “freedom” a few months after he tried to steal an election for his lord and master.

Half of all adults in the U.S. have received at least one COVID-19 shot, the government announced Sunday, marking another milestone in the nation’s largest-ever vaccination campaign but leaving more work to do to convince skeptical Americans to roll up their sleeves.
Almost 130 million people 18 or older have received at least one dose of a vaccine, or 50.4% of the total adult population, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. Almost 84 million adults, or about 32.5% of the population, have been fully vaccinated….

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), indicated Sunday that her state would not implement new coronavirus-related lockdown restrictions in response to a spike in new infections due to Republican-led lawsuits last year that challenged her constitutional authority to do so.
Speaking Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Whitmer explained to host Chuck Todd that the lawsuits had left her without the ability to unilaterally implement new COVID-19 lockdown measures shutting down businesses in the state, which experts, including Anthony Fauci, have said is the best response in the face of rising infection numbers.
“I have been sued by my legislature. I have lost in a Republican-controlled Supreme Court,” Whitmer told NBC on Sunday. “I don’t have all of the exact same tools [that I had 15 months ago].”…

A congressional hearing on the pandemic turned personal when Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) loudly attacked Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease doctor, about when Americans will be able to stop taking public health precautions like wearing masks and physical distancing.
During multiple rounds of questioning at a House Oversight coronavirus subcommittee hearing Thursday, Jordan pressed Fauci on the idea of herd immunity, and when Americans can expect to go back to normal.
“When do Americans get their freedom back?” Jordan asked. “We had 15 days to slow the spread, turned into a year of lost liberties.”….

Two polls released this week gauging support for receiving the coronavirus vaccine are underscoring the lingering hesitancy many Republicans still harbor toward the shots, fueling concerns over an unstable recovery from the pandemic.
A poll from Quinnipiac University released Wednesday showed that 45 percent of Republicans “don’t plan” on getting a vaccine. Another survey from Monmouth University showed that 43 percent of Republicans “likely will never” get a shot.
Another poll released Thursday by YouGov showed a slightly smaller number — 36 percent — of Republicans saying they won’t get vaccinated, still representing over a third of self-identified members of the GOP.
The surveys indicated that vaccine hesitancy among Republicans was significantly higher than among Democrats and independents.
The Quinnipiac University poll reported that 29 percent of independents and 7 percent of Democrats said they wouldn’t get a vaccine, while Monmouth University’s poll showed 22 percent of independents and 5 percent of Democrats said the same….
