The state would join Virginia as the second Southern state to do so if approved….
The national move to decriminalise the use of marijuana means increased revenue for state budgets….
The Fed’s still have marijuana on the books as a dangerous drug and there is a risk for businesses in the growing movement ….
Senate majority leader Schumer wants to change that…
He may have trouble with Republicans and it appears the President is not in a hurry to go along with this either ….
But the movement goes forward regardless ….
North Carolina state lawmakers introduced legislation this week to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana in The Tar Heel State.
Democratic state Reps. John Autry, Allison Dahle, Pricey Harrison and Zack Hawkins introduced the legislation, known as HB 617, on Tuesday, 4/20.
It would legalize the possession of up to 2 ounces of most forms of cannabis, several cannabis plants and other cannabis products for people who are 21 or older. It also includes regulations on lab testing of cannabis, taxation of marijuana products, creating cannabis-related facilities and more.
The bill further proposes expunging certain marijuana convictions for state residents, in addition to creating an “Office of Social Equity,” which would be tasked with encouraging “full participation in the regulated cannabis industry by people from communities that have previously been disproportionately harmed by cannabis prohibition.”
State Rep. Mary Belk (D), a co-sponsor of the bill, told CBS affiliate WBTV that communities of color are “4.2 times more likely” to be arrested for marijuana in the state’s Mecklenburg County. The lawmaker did not cite a specific study, but the ACLU found in 2018 that a Black person is 4.2 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than white people in the county….

Just a matter of time before this becomes the norm nationwide.
Even here in ultra conservative SC,Simple Possession cases are rarely prosecuted anymore. In fact the lawyers now openly joke about “de facto” legalization.
While our moderator ,who is obviously opposed to all this ,never ceases to remind us of the federal law,in all my years of practicing law( going on 46 years) I’ve never heard or seen the feds make a Simple Possession case anywhere but on a federal reservation and only rarely then.

Florida Court Throws Out Marijuana Ballot Initiative
A high profile effort to legalize marijuana was all but killed by the Florida Supreme Court Thursday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Florida will legalize marijuana in the near future.
This is a fight that’s plainly over. All that’s left in the cleaning up operation .The wall against it is quickly collapsing.Like Gay Marriage, there will be a few hiccups here and there ,like this.
In the end?We all know the ultimate result.
But we all have James (who as we all know has “no opinion”) to “report” this all to us!

Of course you haven’t.
