The NY Times points to something that some of us have been saying for a while…
One the whole…
Donald Trump owns part of the Party….
Some strongly….
Some loosely …
A Republican poll has a break of those who identify as Republican being in five groups, ranging from strong Trump supporters to those who only see themselves as just Republicans divorced from almost any Trump influence…
According to the poll….
Trump’s strong support has dropped from last year….
The Republican Party in the era following Donald J. Trump’s presidency is comprised of five “tribes” that have ranging affinity for the former president and different desires when it comes to seeing him continue to lead the party, according to a new survey by Mr. Trump’s former pollster.
The survey of 1,264 voters, who are registered Republicans or identify as Republicans, is the first comprehensive one conducted about G.O.P. voter sentiment since Mr. Trump left office, and as he considers running again in 2024. It was conducted by the Republican polling firm Fabrizio and Lee — which worked for Mr. Trump in his 2020 campaign but does not any longer.
The former president “still wields tremendous influence over the party, yet it is not universal or homogeneous,” the pollsters wrote in their summary. “We found that there are clear and distinct ‘tribes’ of Trump supporters within the G.O.P. and, not surprisingly, a small Never Trump group.”
Those “tribes” were identified as “Trump Boosters,” “Die-hard Trumpers,” “Post-Trump G.O.P.,” “Never Trump,” and “Infowars G.O.P.” The latter group, among other things, was described as viewing QAnon conspiracy theories favorably and believing in many of them.
According to the data, some 57 percent of Republicans polled said they would support Mr. Trump in an election again. That’s a strong majority, but nowhere near the job approval that he enjoys among all Republicans polled, which was 88 percent.
Among the groups, according to the survey, there were some distinctions in terms of how they viewed Trump.
The group identified as “Die-hard Trumpers” — supporters of the former president who would back him in a hypothetical primary regardless of who else was running but who don’t believe in QAnon conspiracy theories — comprised 27 percent of the Republican voters surveyed. Another 28 percent comprised the “Trump Boosters,” Republicans who said they approve of how Mr. Trump did his job, but only a slight majority of them support him being the nominee again, and they are more supportive of the Republican Party than Mr. Trump personally….

If this poll is accurate?
Someone needs to tell the Republicans in Congress where obedience to Trump runs well over 90% .

I’ll add to ur part DSD….
….’The group identified as “Die-hard Trumpers” — supporters of the former president who would back him in a hypothetical primary regardless of who else was running but who don’t believe in QAnon conspiracy theories — comprised 27 percent of the Republican voters surveyed. Jack seems to be doing his regular stretching of the Big Guys support….

Alabama Republican Party to gift Trump with resolution acknowledging him as one of the ‘greatest’ presidents…
The Alabama Republican Party will honor former President Trump for being “one of the greatest and most effective presidents in the 245-year history of this Republic,” Fox News reported.
At a Saturday evening reception held at Mar-a-Lago, the party will present Trump with a framed resolution that grants him the honor.
“The resolution, basically, it just talks about the greatness of Donald J. Trump, how he made America great again and I hope other states will follow suit,” Perry Hooper Jr., a former state representative and a member of the state party’s executive committee, told Fox News.
Members of the state’s GOP unanimously voted on the resolution, which claims that “President Trump put the American people and the American worker first in all of his decisions.”….
Zreebs says
Well, if they voted unanimously, doesn’t that imply that the never Trumpers don’t hold any power – at least in the Yellowhammer State?
jamesb says
Depends ….
Some states they would be no factor….
Some states like Georgia Senate election they throw things to the Democrats….
Some GOPer’s ARE scared of this being the case in the 2022 midterms….
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t believe that are any states where the “NeverTrumpers “ or whatever one calls those who oppose Trump hold any real power, at least in the state parties.
Further,I reiterate, if this poll is accurate? There appears to be a major disconnect between Republicans in Congress ,where fealty to Trump is on daily display and is massive and overwhelming , and the party itself. That is why I find these numbers highly suspect .
Zreebs says
According to this poll, only 15% of Republicans are never-Trumpers. And even the “Post Trump GOP” group likes Trump.
The bottom line is that 57% would support Trump for President again – which in my opinion is an incredibly high number for a former failed president who unsuccessfully tried to overthrow the government.
I’m not sure what Jack sees in these numbers that would discourage Republicans from embracing Trump? I see the poll as proof that Trump will continue to dominate the Party. Why am I wrong?
My Name Is Jack says
The point I was trying to make is that ,according to this poll, there are a large number of Republicans who don’t want Trump to run again ,as well as the “NeverTrumpers.”
If that is true ,one would think there would be more sentiment among Republicans in Congress and among national Republican figures to “move on” from Trump.Yet we see very little.
Save for Larry Hogan and (depending on which day she is flip flopping ) Nikki Haley, almost every prospective Republican presidential candidate still is offering whole hearted support to Trump.
If there is around 40% of Republicans who sort of wish Trump would go away,I would think that more national Republican figures would be trying to appeal to those people.
Zreebs says
But I don’t think that 1/2 of your last sentence is correct. Never Trumpers only represent 15%, and post Trumpers 20%. I suspect that most of the post Trumpers don’t want Trump to go away. They only don’t want him to be the nominee.
jamesb says
The poll points to Trump NOT having the ‘whole’ party…..
No amount of dancing gets away from this….
I have been pointing this out with numerous evidence which Jack mostly refuses to accept…
(He does in weak moments… )
My Name Is Jack says
I have no idea what you are talking about.
I have never said he had “the whole” party.Thats a lie.You know it’s a lie.
The term I have used is “overwhelming .”
This poll says 15% are “NeverTrumper.” Such is roughly equivalent to the number that “disapproved” of Trump during his Presidency.
I know yu don’t understand any of this because you have a major reading comprehension problem.
jamesb says
Yea Jack…
You just keep saying it’s Trump’s party
It isn’t ‘just’ his party….
THAT is my point here and what the polling supports ….
My Name Is Jack says
Another lie.
I have never used the word” just” as you falsely claim.
I call it the Trump Party often. That seems to bother you?
Why?
You should like it. Remember that you said you wanted Trump to rip the shit or something like that out of the Republican Party?
So calling it the Trump Party should assist in that?Right?
Or has that become “ inoperative “ like your “ Democratic Civil War.”
One never knows.
It just so difficult to keep up with your various lies and contradictions !
jamesb says
He, he, he…..
This doesn’t bother me….
We’re debating….
It isn’t ‘his’ party….
Those who support him do….
But there IS an increasing number who do NOT…
That bleeding WILL contiune
jamesb says
Jack?
The poll just points to the FACT that the Grand ole Party is fractured as some have pointed out…
My Name Is Jack says
James?
All parties are fractured in your view.
Indeed, you often claim there is a “Civil War” raging in the Democratic Party.
What’s your point?
Why do I ask though? As usual you just make irrelevant statements that have nothing much to do with anything.
jamesb says
No….
The Democrats ARE rowing TOGETHER right now….
I know you’re NOT gonna accept anything but your view on the GOPer’s….
It’s ok….
It’s YOUR view….
My Name Is Jack says
Oh so the Democratic “Civil War” ended just like that eh?
No surrender ceremony!
No Appomattox Court House!
Just you declaring it over?
Ah “Civil Wars” be such fleeting hobgoblins in your mind!
It’s alright…
It’s your fantasy.
jamesb says
Right now Jack?
Yup…..
In Congress Democrats ARE rowing together and voting strong….
My Name Is Jack says
Certainly it is “my view.”
That’s what a “comment” often is James,
The view of the person making it.
Also,it is noteworthy that my “view” seems to bother you so much that you often feel the need to highlight the obvious…
That my comment is my “view.”
I notice you rarely do this to any other poster here.
jamesb says
Jack?
I do this when i point out something that u and I disagree….
You try to sell me that ‘everybody’ agree’s with u….
I don’t….
And i haven’t heard anyone accept ur the party ‘completely’ belongs to Trump….
In fact as continually show this?
You seek to discredit that, which i see as the true reality…
jamesb says
I’m up for the challenge!
Some have not been up for it and left…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Might as well post the two remaining paragraphs of Maggie Haberman’s story:
‘The “Never Trump” Republicans comprised 15 percent of the Republicans surveyed. Another 20 percent were described as “Post-Trump G.O.P.,” who like Mr. Trump but want to see someone else as the party’s nominee.
‘The “Infowars G.O.P.” voters, named for the conspiracy-laden news outlet that was founded by Alex Jones, comprised 10 percent of the voters surveyed, far from a majority but a significant enough portion of voters that, in a multicandidate primary, could play a factor. Only 13 percent of all the voters surveyed believed in QAnon conspiracy theories, the poll showed, but 69 percent of the “Infowars G.O.P.” voters backed those theories.’
¶ So it seems (trying to account for some logical fuzziness in the way the story is written) that about half the Republican voters would prefer a candidate other than Donald Trump in 2024, regardless of how much they liked his presidency, while on the other hand, about two-fifths do positively want Trump to regain the Presidency, with the remaining tenth in the lunatic fringe (who’d ardently continue to back him until and unless…)
I can’t easily find the original source, although it was probably (given my experience asking pollster’s questions) a set of questions on the same questionnaire that showed a shift towards Newsmax among Fox News viewers.
