The Republican curse word isn’t being used except for above…
But the Biden and Democratic ‘Rescue/Stimulus’ Law is just more of this countries version of it….
We already have food stamps, unemployment benefits , health insurance and of course Social Security…
Now we have more ‘safety nets’ for Americans tucked into a two billion dollar law from Congress….More help IS coming for Americans from ‘their’ Government…
Oh, wait…
Republicans did Not vote for the law…
Not one….
Wait….
You’ll get to see media reports of how Republicans helped their fellow supporters get their piece from the bill anyways….
They quietly will embrace BIG Government….
Something they say they did NOT….
Back in the day….
Democratic leaders are banking on some of the aid provisions being so popular that letting them expire would be a political nightmare, painful enough for Americans that even Republicans couldn’t stand in the way.
At the top of the list is making permanent the expanded child tax credit, a move supporters believe could generate bipartisan backing and which analysts say would cut child poverty nearly in half. But some lawmakers and outside experts expect Democrats will also fight to keep the expansions of the earned income tax credit and a second program for child and dependent care, while further extensions of food assistance and boosted unemployment benefits are also likely.
“Getting something out of the [tax] code is often harder than getting something into the code,” House Ways and Means Chair Richard Neal (D-Mass.) said. “What we did is unlikely to go away.”
The approach suggests that Biden’s $1.9 trillion plan — as historic in size and scope as it is — could represent just the first step in a potentially significant expansion of the welfare state and a major shift toward enlarging the government’s role in helping the poorest Americans.
And that, in turn, could represent a major breakthrough for progressive leaders who have been pushing for more generous benefits for years….
…
Biden said Friday that the bill “changes the paradigm” by moving away from the theory of trickle-down economics and instead putting working people first — the first time that has happened, he said, since Lyndon Johnson was president in the 1960s.
“It’s time that we build an economy that grows from the bottom up,” he said, “and the middle out.”…

Republicans–every damn elected one in Congress–should not be able to take an ounce of credit for this highly popular bill. And if any do–like Sen Roger Wicker bragging about $28 billion in aid to independent restaurants though he voted against it– they need to be mercilessly called out on it.

Republicans were so successful in their ten-year (or 25-year) campaign against Obamacare/Romneycare that they have turned something that couldn’t win a clear majority among voters into a very-popular “third-rail” programme (like Social Security and Medicare), which one can only touch at deadly peril to one’s career.
I imagine that that’s what the White House and the Democrats hope will also happen with some of the new initiatives in the American Rescue Plan.

Thank You DSD….

The compliment would be more meaningful if James was ever praised for a particularly well-written post.
James’s last comment implies that he values writing in a way that others can understand – even though I sometimes think he deliberately tries to be incomprehensible.
