Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday that “I feel awful” about the sexual harassment allegations against him but insisted, “I never touched anyone inappropriately.”
Cuomo also said he was acting against legal advice to tell New Yorkers, “I now understand that I acted in a way that made people feel uncomfortable.”
“It was unintentional and I truly and deeply apologize for it,” he said as his voice choked up.
“I feel awful about it and frankly I am embarrassed by it and that’s not easy to say –but that’s the truth.”
Cuomo’s remarks were the first he’s made in person since a spiraling sexual harassment scandal erupted last week, leading to calls for his resignation — despite his having agreed to an independent investigation by state Attorney General Letitia James.
The controversy was sparked by former aide Lindsey Boylan, 36, who accused Cuomo, 63, of kissing her “on the lips” without warning in his Manhattan office in 2018.
Boylan, now a Democratic candidate for Manhattan borough president, also alleged in an online essay that Cuomo told her, “Let’s play strip poker,” during an October 2017 flight on his official state jet….
He had no idea that grabbing someone’s face was inappropriate or could make someone feel uncomfortable. Yet, he says he took the mandatory sexual harassment training that is required for all state workers. He has in the past called for the immediate resignation of other political figures who were accused of similar things.
Cuomo is a joke and disgrace.

His main objective in this press conference was to find a way to attack how badly things are going in NYC as a thinly veiled attack on his rival deBlasio, even when questions had nothing to do with that.
And he said there are “thousands” of pictures of him kissing men, women, everything. That’s what his father did. That’s what Italians are raised to do, etc. etc. He thinks that as Governor, kissing strangers is meant to make them feel more comfortable. Yeah, where are these photos of him grabbing the face of kissing anyone other than young, attractive women?
NYC Mayor’s and their Governor’s have history of political sparring….

This is right out the Trump playbook of hanging in there and fighting….
Cuomo and Trump have a lot in common
Except Democrats dont wave flags iff their boats and trucks for Cuomo like Republicans do for their Dear Leader.
Really? If you mean this as it relates to all Democrats, I’ve seen a ton of Bernie flags and Obama flags in the past.
Did Andrew brag about grabbing pussy at his press conference? Is he being sued for rape? Did I miss something?
Other than cutting off questions early, and we all know it would have been the same question over and over again, I think he accomplished what he set out to do.
He’s an arrogant and mean person, always has been. He made his bed, but until he is caught sending dick pics or sex texting, I think he’s handling this as well as can be expected.
There are folks here that think Biden is a little swampy and that Tara Reade was telling the truth. It is always important to not overreact and wait until all the facts come out before we “demand” resignations and ask for apologies.

Obviously she’s learned her lesson and is more cautious so far on Cuomo…

But the New York senator is taking a different approach when it comes to sexual harassment allegations hitting closer to home, those against her state’s Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo.
In a series of statements, Gillibrand has said accusations of offensive behavior by Cuomo are “serious and deeply concerning” and that the three women “who have come forward have shown tremendous courage.” She has said that the claims against Cuomo are “completely unacceptable” and called for a full investigation — but stopped short of demanding his resignation….

It’s basically over for Cuomo. It’s just a matter of time. Gillibrand can afford to be more “cautious” because there is not a Roy Moore Senate campaign going on now.
Cuomo himself had demanded several Democat legislators step down after they were accused of sexual harassment. He wants a different standard for himself.
I have a bet going at work that Cuomo gets RE-ELECTED….

Big Majority Doesn’t Want Cuomo to Run Again
A new Quinnipiac poll in New York finds a majority of voters do not want Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to resign in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment, 55% to 40%.
However, voters also say by a 59% to 36% say that they would not like to see Cuomo run for reelection in 2022.
(This is actually a pretty good poll for Cuomo..)
People are trained to think “we need to learn more” or afraid of radical change, but still, clearly, they have moved on from Cuomo and he would have virtually no chance of being reelected.
Indeed that might be his exit strategy.
Won’t resign but then announcing he won’t seek re-election ,figuring that will take the heat off.

If Trump, Kavanaugh and even Biden can hold on?
Cuomo should and CAN….
No he shouldn’t, and I think it is unfair to include Kavanaugh and Biden in such a grouping.
Trump should not be used as a standard of what is acceptable. Clearly though, Trump and Cuomo are very much alike

I am not a supporter of Trump or any adulterer holding high office, but it is a completely different situation than the actions Cuomo appears to have taken as Governor against women.

Neither Trump nor Cuomo should hold or have held office.
Cuomo is the one though where there is photographic evidence and has basically admitted much of it and has not gone the “I didn’t mean it, it was just locker room talk” defense.
The sooner we set a standard about behavior in elected officials, the better off we will be.

Presumably almost all of the 40% who want Cuomo to resign also don’t want him to run again. And few of the 36% who want him to run again would also want him to resign.
Which suggests that something like 19-20% want him to serve out his term (on good behavior) but not to seek another term.
As a crude guess (I don’t know if there are cross-tabs easily available):
40% resign and don’t ever come back;
20% stay but don’t run again
35-40% stay and run again.
Cuomo’s approval was in the 50’s he ran the last time….

But ALL think he did a damn good job on the pandemic ….
And they guy isn’t stupid….
