The Democratic former Georgia lawmaker gets props for working hard at getting out the vote in her state that elected TWO Democratic Us Senator’s recently….
Across the country try Republicans have moved to present hundreds of bill to suppress 2024 vote numbers anything like last November…
Abrams will be running for Governor again….
The President and Vice President will surely be back to visit Abrams and campaign for efforts on voting and getting elected….
Biden also gave props to the Georgia officials who withstood harrrasment from their Party leader Trump to throw the election numbers to him….
President Biden on Friday met with Stacey Abrams and Georgia lawmakers while in Atlanta to discuss voting rights in the face of legislation introduced by state GOP lawmakers in various states that would restrict access to the ballot.
Biden and Vice President Harris met with Abrams, Sens. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottomsduring a stop at Emory University.
“They discussed state legislation in Georgia and across the country that would make it harder for people to vote, along with possible solutions to make voting more accessible,” White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement. “The President re-affirmed his commitment to re-authorizing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and his strong belief that every eligible voter should be able to vote and have their vote counted.”
Biden and Harris traveled to Atlanta after shootings earlier this week that left eight people dead, six of whom were Asian. The president delivered a speech at Emory condemning violence against Asians, which has risen sharply during the coronavirus pandemic.
Biden used a portion of the speech to tout Georgia’s elections officials standing up to pressure from former President Trump and emphasizing the importance of the right to vote….

26% of Republicans say they have faced “discrimination “ for being White.
I can’t think of any time I would have made such a statement .
Has anybody here been discriminated against because they were White?

I’ll do this post…
CG says
Not necessarily complaining, I am willing to accept there may be public health priorities at hand that make it appropriate, but while trying to sign up for various vaccine waiting lists, I am asked to check boxes regarding my race, which indicates that non-whites are given priority.

Recent-historically speaking, there have definitely been quotas in place that have caused disadvantages to Caucasians (as well as Asian-Americans) in terms of medical school or university acceptance, even if they had higher test scores, because they were seen as over-represented. These policies also exist in regards to government contacts, etc, in regards to minority-owned businesses giving preference, whether one thinks those policies make sense or not.
I do not think many white people would voluntarily want to be African-American or Hispanic if they had a choice, although the concept of the 1980s movie “Soul Man” was interesting.
More broadly speaking, this all speaks to the problematic issues of “victim culture” and grievances, which is now prevalent on the right and left. Ideally, we can one day reach a color-blind society as Dr. King dreamed on.

‘Set asides’ have only been put in place to CORRECT past inequities….
And have been fought by white and most have been upheld by the courts…

They have to collect stats CG….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
That’s exactly what I was going to write.
Obviously, every approach short of vaccinating everyone who wants to be inoculated when he or chooses will be imperfect and present imperfect choices.
Right now, it’s that almost everywhere, the communities that need vaccination most and earliest (e.g. Central Falls, RI) are not predominantly white and Anglophone.
But first you need to establish if and where that’s true; otherwise, without the statistics, you’re flying blind.
It’s not a matter of discriminating against whites; rather it is to make sure that others are not suffering structural discrimination (e.g. not having the tools or connections to sign up on line).
Experience in many places (e.g. Rhode Island, New York state) has shown that with everyone so eager to sign up for appointments, even facilities and programmes designed specifically to remedy racial and social imbalance get flooded by educated middle-class people (largely white) who have the resources, skills, transportation and freedom to schedule to shop far outside their own neighborhoods.

I agree that King’s ideal of a color-blind society should be our collective ideal too.
But we are far from there today. When White people use their credit card, they are almost never asked to show an ID. But a black friend of mine is. I have witnessed it. Republicans rail against “black lives matter”. They complain that heavily populated black areas are where voter fraud is – even though they can’t prove it and the very limited voter fraud we know about for sure is disproportionately committed by white people. Discrimination against blacks regularly occurs in housing.
Universities and Colleges have often looked at race as a consideration for diversity, and we all benefit by going to a university with student diversity. But “conservatives” don’t complain about a university seeking diversity in other areas (such as gender in STEM fields), but they love to focus on race. And conservatives don’t make a fuss that students of alumni are often given special treatment. They are much more likely to complain about “that black boy”.
CG says
There’s too much division in general. A lot of factors have caused it historically and continue to exist, but we also see examples of political correctness run amok on college campuses, such as “white free zones” and demands for all black dorms, classes, etc.
One does not have to lean to the right politically to find these trends troubling.
jamesb says
The FACT IS CG?
As Z points out….
IT IS THERE….
The Pew polling just confirms it….
CG says
What is there?
The Pew Poll shows that compared to two years ago, people are significantly more willing to agree that discrimination against African-American exists. Clearly, the events of last summer have played a role in the public consciousness.
That is the “headline” of the Pew Poll, not some trivial excuse to attack a relatively small percentage of Republicans.
Zreebs says
yes. There is political correctness on many college campuses run amok. And I don’t support that. There should be no place for all black dorms or white free zones. I had not heard of these other than that I know there are some students that desire these things. And no, I don’t think that is helpful in achieving King’s goal.
But intolerance is certainly not limited to “liberal” universities, especially at some Christian colleges:
