Poor House Minority Leader McCarthy…..
He’s screwed….
On one hand he has a trial coming up for Donald Trump….
On the other hand he has Rep.Majorie Greene….
On both accounts the Majority Democrats are breathing down on him….
I don’t really feel sorry for the guy….
He, like others, has stayed with some bad people and now suffers for it….
The Republican civil war sits right in McCarthy’s lap and he IS gonna have to eventually walk away from Trump (McConnell has no use for Trump and other Senator’s are already talking to Biden), something he knows is coming …..
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy met late Tuesday with hard-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene as Republicans wrestled over how to handle a bipartisan outcry over her endorsement of outlandish conspiracy theories and of violent, racist views.
Aides to McCarthy and Greene offered no immediate comment after the two spent around 90 minutes together in his Capitol office. Their session came as the GOP faced unrest from opposing ends of the party’s spectrum over Greene and Rep. Liz Cheney, whom far-right lawmakers want to oust from her leadership post after she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump.
The strife underscores Republican fissures as the party seeks a path forward two weeks after Trump left office as the only twice-impeached president. House Republicans are effectively deciding whether to prioritize the former president’s norm-shattering behavior and conspiracy theories and retain the loyalty of his voters over more establishment conservative values.
“At the very moment that Joe Biden is lurching to the left is the moment that the Republican Party is lurching out of existence,” GOP pollster Frank Luntz said of the new Democratic president, who is preparing to try muscling a mammoth COVID-19 relief package through the narrowly divided Congress.
But pro-Trump forces remain powerful.
“We’ve got millions and millions of woke, motivated, America-first Trump voters that believe in the movement,” said John Fredericks, who led Trump’s Virginia campaigns in 2016 and 2020. “If you’re going to keep Liz Cheney in leadership, there’s no party.”
Without action by Republicans, Democrats were threatening to force an embarrassing House vote Wednesday on removing Greene, R-Ga., from her assigned committees.
Republicans appointed Greene to the education committee, a decision that drew harsh criticism because of her suggestions that school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, and Parkland, Florida, could be hoaxes. A House vote on removing her from the committee could be politically difficult for some Republicans.
The House GOP Steering Committee, a leadership-dominated body that makes committee assignments for the party, also met late Tuesday but no decision was announced.
On social media, Greene has voiced support for racist views, unfounded QAnon pro-Trump conspiracy theories and calls for violence against Democratic politicians, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
McCarthy, R-Calif., has stopped short of criticizing the first-term congresswoman, who was dubbed a “future Republican Star” by Trump last summer and has remained a firm Trump supporter.
McCarthy has long been close to Trump. But he’s been criticized by some Republicans, mostly quietly, for relentlessly supporting Trump’s fallacious claims of a fraudulent election last November and for not forcefully criticizing Trump for helping provoke the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by his supporters.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and others have boosted pressure this week on McCarthy and the House GOP to act….
The gulf between the two top Republicans on Capitol Hill grew even wider this week after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) took the unusual step of plunging into a pair of controversies that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is struggling to contain in the lower chamber.
In the span of an hour, McConnell issued two separate statements, one condemning the “loony” conspiracy theories of first-term Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a follower of the pro-Trump QAnon movement; the other praising Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as she faces backlash from former President Trump loyalists after her vote to impeach the 45th president.
Those dynamics have created a rare and growing rift between the top GOP leaders across chambers at the very moment when Republicans are trying to unite against the ambitious legislative agenda of the new Democratic president, Joe Biden….

jamesb says
House Republicans have punted a decision on whether to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments, despite huddling for over an hour Tuesday evening to discuss the controversial freshman’s fate, according to multiple GOP sources….

This IS gonna be interesting….
jamesb says
Democrats Look to Exploit GOP Divisions
“Democrats tasked with protecting majorities in the House and Senate are seizing on deep divisions within the Republican Party, hoping that stoking the discord could help them overcome the legacy of losses the party in power usually suffers in midterm elections,” CNN reports.
“The Democratic strategy is two-fold. The party, led by Biden, looks to get the coronavirus pandemic under control and campaign on policy believed to be broadly popular. And Democrats will also attempt to link vulnerable Republicans to some of the most extreme members in their party, hoping to fan the flames of conflict highlighted by far-right members like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert.”
CG says
So Zreebs and jack, are you ok with this strategy or should Democrats (while perusing their own agenda) be on the side of Republicans trying to fight off the Trumpists?
This strategy seems to be one of wanting to keep Trump and Trumpism in the forefront of the Republican Party in the eyes of voters.
Keith says
My strategy:
Let Republicans be Republicans and get out of the way.
McCarthy is a limp dick, he appears to be afraid of a freshman Congresswoman.
He needs to ask Maxine for advice.
jamesb says
Jake Sherman
@JakeSherman
Hoyer, on house Dem call, does not sound at all like he’s interested in a deal w McCarthy. Says vote to strip
@mtgreenee
can come up Thursday.
Zreebs says
Yes. Certainly I agree to get the pandemic under control.
And Attacking Greene and her defenders is fair game.
CG says
Attack her and her defenders or lump them in with the other Republicans as this strategy contains?
For example, Democrats could run ads in Illinois or Wyoming trying to defeat Kinzinger or Cheney by alerting Trump fans that they have been “disloyal”, etc.
Scott P says
I don’t want to put words in Zreebs mouth but in the past he has been consistent in being opposed to having the opposing party nominate the worst possible candidate on the theory that advancing that person risks having that horrible bigot/Q-Anon believer etc in power.
And I agree with him.
But if Republicans are too chickenshit to do anything about removing these people from power then Democrats have every right to run against the GOP as the party of Q-Anon and bigots.
I’m sure CG would like us to play nice but just saying “oh well” only gets more Marjorie Taylor Greens–not fewer.
Scott P says
Or to put it simpler. If defeating Adam Kinzinger puts a GOP that refuses to do anything about MTG further away from the majority then we would be stupid not to do it.
It doesn’t matter how good a guy Kinzinger is.
My Name Is Jack says
I associate bmyself totally with Scott’s remarks.
CG says
and what this clearly means is that you do want the Republican Party to be seen as the “Party of Trump” in 2022, 2024, and beyond. I have always said I understood that from a political aspect.
Trump is the best thing you guys have going. Democrats will run ads in Republican primaries “exposing” who was not sufficiently loyal to Trump, trying to get the most pro-Trump candidates nominated.
So, that makes it harder for me to buy protests to the negative if that strategy is considered acceptable.
CG says
Well, that’s how politics works and I expect Scott, who is open about his hatred for Republicans to embrace it, but Zreebs especially has said something different and wants me to believe that he is actively rooting for the “good guys.”
Scott is saying politics is war and good guys be damned.
I get that.
CG says
This Democrat strategy as stated in PoliticalWire has the goal of “having the opposing party nominate the worst possible candidate”, which they have done before and certainly makes sense politically. Claire McCaskill bragged about how she did it in her last successful race, etc.
But that runs contrary to the what jack and Zreebs say they would want for Republicans.
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t really “ want” the Republicans to be anything.
It’s not for me,a Democrat, to tell your party what to do.
It certainly seems to me though that you would be more interested in trying to make your party what you desire it to be rather than essentially wasting time trying to argue with a bunch of Democrats over what we “want” the Republican Party to be.
We will see tomorrow apparently where House Republicans stand on Greene.
CG says
jack, I thought you wanted me to believe you weren’t a Democrat.
I understand that you have the mindset of “washing your hands” of the mess Republicans are in. I can’t say I blame you. It’s not your problem, although you remain open to voting for Trump bootlickers in your state as long as they are “good at their job.” That’s your right too, but it sends a mixed message.
If Zreebs truly wants the good guys, like Kinzinger, to eventually emerge victorious in the GOP “Civil War”, the strategy that CNN is reporting Democrats will engage in, if successful, leads to the opposite result.
So, it has to be one or the other.
Scott P says
Jack is 100% right here. Like it makes a damn bit of difference whether I, a lone Democrat in Missouri, “wants” the Republicans to be the Party of Trump in 2022, 2024 and beyond. They will or they won’t. And my “wants” will be of no concern to them.
CG says
So, take the district that Tom Rice, who voted to impeach Trump, represents in South Carolina.
We can all agree that the district will be Republican after the next election whether Rice is reelected or is defeated in a primary.
You are saying it is ok for the DCCC to run ads there in which they openly appeal to Republican primary voters to reject Rice because he voted for impeachment and that is “not the true conservative” or however they will phrase it. Democrats have been doing this in Republican primaries, long before Trump.
So, Rice loses his seat in a primary perhaps, with the Democrats help, it does not mathematically help Democrats in that district, because his replacement will be a Trumpist, but it helps keep Trumpism alive nationally.
That’s what you are saying you are ok with.
Again, I get it. Just own up to it.
My Name Is Jack says
What there to “own up to?”
I presume Scott ,like md, would probably vote for the Democrat.
CG says
And since that is the way politics works, once certainly cannot complain when Republicans go into marginal districts and tie the Democrat there to AOC, Ilhan Omar, and “The Squad.”
Clearly, this proved to be somewhat effective for House Republican candidates down the ballot last November.
But as the saying goes, what is good for the goose..
Democrat tribalists have a vested interest in having the Republican Party be seen as the party of Trump, Q-Anon, and his new proxy Marjorie Green (which also serves her own interests quite well) while Republican tribalists have a vested interest in having Democrats be seen as the party of AOC, “The Squad”, and socialism.
My Name Is Jack says
I would never vote for Tom Rice.
I disagree with him on just about everything.
Why would that surprise you?
CG says
Scott would not vote for a Republican for a school board race if it could prevent a building from burning.
On the other hand, jack tells us he regularly votes for Republicans, and is willing to so do again, even if they think the election was stolen from Trump, etc.
CG says
You aren’t in Tom Rice’s district, but he did vote to impeach Trump.
But if you will vote for statewide Republican candidates who found nothing at all wrong with what Trump did, why not Rice in theory?
Why is he worse?
My Name Is Jack says
Yawn
CG says
It boils down to this:
Should Democrats be spending money and using resources to target the Trumpists and the MTG types or
Should Democrats be spending money and using resources to try to defeat people like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger and the others because it might be *easier* to do so due to Republican divisions?
Pick a path that you think makes the most sense for Democrats and it speaks towards what your priority is.
Scott P says
This exchange tells us CG has an inkling that the GOP will likely take no or little action against Marjorie Taylor Green and he wants to make this about it all being the fault of a few of us Democrats on a blog and what we “want”.
What my votes on the school board (which is non-partisan here btw) have to do with it is anyone’s guess.
CG says
No, MTG is not your fault but making her a “martyr” serves the purposes of both sides very well.
The only fault would be inconsistency on the claims that “I hope the good guys win.” You are more open that there are no good guys who do not have a D next to their name.
Even my voting for Biden, after badgering about it for months, was a big nothing to you. I’m still “as bad.”
Scott P says
If it means anything I “want” the Republicans to expel Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Boebert.
Even if that means it stops some of the GOP hemorraghing in the suburbs. If they do that I will give them props for removing two very dangerous people from our government. They will most likely be replaced with more sane Republicans (at least in Taylor’s district which is deep red–Boebert’s would still likely stay Republican)
You think it will make them “martyrs”. You are right to your opinion but how does that jive with your caricature of me that thinks all Republicans=bad?
CG says
The whole point is that MTG and Boebert et al and Cheney and Kinzinger, et al are not on the same side, even if you find stuff to disagree with them *all* over.
Yes, the Republican Party is deeply divided right now and in theory, the Democrats can take advantage of that. It’s easier to “kill” those who are already wounded.
So, if Democrats decide they can get into bed with the Trump faction by knocking off the “RINOS”, it works to the benefit of both. Good for Democrats but also good for the Trump wing.
If that is the strategy, Republicans as a whole have themselves to blame, but at the same time, people cannot say, “well, we are rooting for the good guys to win in the Republican fight.”
No, you are rooting for them to lose and for yourself to win.
My Name Is Jack says
You’re trying to preempt our opinion with your own as to how we should feel.
I don’t necessarily regard Liz Cheney and Tom Rice as the good guys” as you apparently do.
I agree with their vote to Impeach Trump but disagree with them on just about everything else. Why you believe that I should “root “ for them in some internal Republican bickering is a mystery to me.
I agree with Scott that I think Greene and Boehbert ought to go.If the Republicans get rid of them?Thats a good thing. That doesn’t mean that I then become cheerleaders for them or something.
Scott P says
CG ‘s logic that by advocating that Republicans rid themselves of MTG and Boebert actually means that I am rooting for the “bad guys” in the GOP has made me hungry for pretzels.
CG says
So, you are clarifying that you are “not rooting” for them which means my initial view about your attitude on the matter is correct. You want the Republican Party to be the Trump Party.
Zreebs has said something different and said he is “rooting” for my faction in the battle and has wanted me to take him seriously on that. So, I will have to note you take different stances.
CG says
Scott, you want Republicans to rid themselves of everyone.
You want Democrats to target the strongest possible Republicans in primaries (which would not be the MTG or Boebert types in most places), so they would be the ones that survive and become the face of the party.
Politically, I understand that. I just want it clarified that you all are taking a different position from Zreebs, so I am going to have to remind myself to work to give him the benefit of the doubt on this
Keith says
We sure will Jack.
It appears that our friend has forgotten that MTG is culpable for her part in the Republican mob that attacked the House. Since that terrorist act she has continued with her shameful rhetoric.
Making this “what about” the Democrats isn’t going to cut it. The Democratic Majority will be forced to take action because the Republicans appear to be looking down at their shoes.
MTG has the complete support of Donald Trump and the GOP won’t take meaningful action until he gives them permission. Remember they only acted on Congressman King of Iowa, after years of racist and conspiratorial actions, when Trump cut him loose.
We’ve been told Trump is going away, we will see tomorrow how far he’s actually gone.
Keith says
The 130 Republicans in the House who voted against certification of a legal election should also be expelled. How many of them knew that the Republican mob was about to invade the Capitol?
All the whataboutism in the world can change this seditious act.
My Name Is Jack says
Whatever.
Yeah really we are all for Trump!
CG says
You are for Trump as a foil. You will wave the spray-tanned shirt for 100 years if possible.
CG says
but weirdly enough, will vote for the folks wearing MAGA hats in South Carolina, because you also believe they are “good at their jobs,”
If you think they are doing good jobs, and I will take your word that they are, maybe you are more “conservative” than you want us to know.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah I might vote for her again if the Democrats nominate another nut.
They had a referendum to change the Supt of Education to an appointed position which I supported.Unfortunately it didn’t pass.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh and “weirdly “ is a very good word to conclude this discussion today.
CG says
And who was the other Trumpublican statewide official you voted for? Eckstrom or someone else?
You also said last week, that you would not vote for Alvin Greene against Marjorie Taylor Greene.
My Name Is Jack says
I never said any such thing.

If you lived in a district where your option were Marjorie Green and Alvin Greene (or someone other “bozo” running as a Democrat) would you vote for the Democrat or just not vote?
I will give a compliment to your district. All things considered, in this sorry state of politics, both Nancy Mace and Joe Cunningham seem a bit above the pack.

Probably not vote or write on myself.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah I said I would not vote for either.
You phrased It as I would vote for Greene.
What kind of weirdo are you?
Good God
This gets weirder by the minute.
CG says
No Counselor, I said you would not vote for Alvin Greene. What I said was very clear.
CG says
The appropriate answer would have been “I would vote for a Cocker Spaniel if it was the opponent of Marjorie Taylor Greene.”
But you had your chance.
jamesb says
Well guys?
House Democrats have indicated that ‘if’ McCarthy and his party do NOT ‘do something’?
They ‘will’ knock her out of at least the Education committee tomorrow…
Could look to take from more…
McConnell will be smiling…
CG says
Generally speaking, that would be very bad precedent and will lead to this sort of thing going back and forth down the road.
The Committees she is assigned to should be up to Republicans. McCarthy set the standard with Steve King. As long as she is unwilling to renounce and apologize for many of things she has said or suggested, she should be treated the same way King was. She is of course horrible for the Republican Party, but whatever happens to her will only enhance her own “brand” sadly.
But this should be up to her party to clean up their mess, not the opposition party. If she violates any rule of the House as a Member , or if there was anything illegal about her election, then she should be subject to Regular Order and the official procedures of investigation. Otherwise, the opposition party should only have the role of trying to defeat her at the ballot box.
jamesb says
‘If she violates any rule of the House’?
You ARE kidding me, Right?
CG says
Has she?
CG says
You may not realize that the controversies regarding the writings and recordings of her are from before she was elected.
Anything associated with 1/6 remains under investigation by authorities as should be the case.
CG says
She’s only 46? That surprises me. It looks like she has had a rough life.
jamesb says
She was elected just in November
I know….
So what?
Someone threatens and coos catch up to them 3 months later ?
Does THST get them off?
That’s the same bull shit Trump no trial argument that is crazy…
You do something wrong…
They go after u?
Don’t matter if where u work…
Not for a President….
Not for a rookie House member…
Let ‘s get REAL On this….
CG says
There is no evidence at this time she has broken any law. You just don’t like her. I don’t either, along with a host of Republicans and Democrats in Congress.
Donate to her future opponent (primary would be most effective way of getting rid of her). Go down there and campaign against her. But in America, even the most revolting people have free speech rights.
jamesb says
BTW ?
The GOPer’s have done Nothing….
Thus asking the Dem’s to ‘do’ something so they can make the Dem’s the bad guys NOT Grenne….
CG says
So, if you think that is what might be going on, it could be a case of Democrats falling into McCarthy’s trap and doing his dirty work for him.
The person most aggrieved by any of this would be a more sane Republican (i.e. anyone) who did not get the committee slot they wanted because of her.
jamesb says
Might be CG…
But SOMEBODY JAS to do something…
We have a rookie House member mouthing ogg about violent acts to the place she starting working at….
And she don’t give a shit?
Then she calls Trump , the other asshole pushing violence and smiles and says i’m home free ?
CG?
IF NOTHING IS DONE?
The Jan 6th thing is gonna rest right in the Congress and the members ate not gonna be safe until the FBI starts arresting members….
Oh, And Lindsey keeps screwing with Garland’s confirmation to boot?
Pushing it back ti March if he can get away with it?
CG says
Free speech can be an ugly thing, yet it should be scared to us all.
Think about it this way. You are all for the U.S. government having talks with and considering concessions to the elected Palestinian government, even though the Palestinians elected Hamas, sworn terrorists who preach violence and murder.
If she has broken or will break any law, she will be held responsible of course.
As stated, Republican leadership should remove her from Committees and give her the worst possible office space and do anything possible to spur the voters in her district to reject her.
But of course that can boomerang.
Ultimately, this is up to the people in her district. As the saying goes, we get the government we deserve.
jamesb says
Check your law CG…
Free speech stops when u threaten orhers with physical harm or violence ….
Tell ur point of view to those the FBI is pYong visits to….
U go say some of the shit Greene was saying and see how fast the cops come knicking on ur door….
Stop making excuses for her
McConnell isn’t…
CG says
By liking social media posts in which people proposed government held trials and executions, she has not done so directly anymore than Keith did on your blog when he called for the executions of Bush and Cheney.
Deplorable? Yes. Detestable? Of course. Illegal, almost certainly not.
You should maybe check with the ACLU.
CG says
And I have made zero excuses for her beyond saying she has the same Constitutional rights as you, I, or the most horrific American sitting in a prison.
jamesb says
‘We’ do NOT have those rights….
Again?
People ARE getting arrested every day for saying pretty much what Rep. Greene said
jamesb says
The Trump actions should NOT be allowed to continue….
By letting her off?
They WILL…
There ARE other Republicans who want her taken to task and shut up….
jamesb says
She IS a member of the House they have every right to cut her committee’s and if they sought to and had the votes they could send her ass packing…..
When Trump was doing his sidewalk act NO ONE said worry about could he?
He just did his shit….
A LOT. Of us would like to see Greene busted …
CG says
As I said, Republicans should decide on her committees, office location, etc. It would be inappropriate based on any current information to expel her from the House, which has only been done in the case of convicted felons.
Bad precedent to leave it up to the opposition party. We will be seeing this done time after time again whenever the majority party in Congress wants to make a show of punishing someone in the minority party for whatever reason.
I will also point out how you take it as a given that Al Sharpton who has engaged in some the same sort of conspiracy theories as her, (which lead to actual death) should be considered a respected power broker in your party.
jamesb says
Rev Al isn’t serving in a Congress that just came under attack by people he egged on…
You are not making headway on this….
Other Republicans HAVE DENOUNCED her actions and comments CG….
Stop making excuses for her
U can admit it’s alright in UR view that people who threaten government officials with violence ‘should’ be allowed to continue getting away with that because of their political party …..
Different rules for ‘your’ people, eh?
jamesb says
The Hill
House Democratic leaders are gearing up to vote Thursday on legislation stripping Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee spots — unless Republican leaders do it first….
jamesb says
The Hill
Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) office called out House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Wednesday for failing to take action against GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), referring to him as “McCarthy (Q-CA)” and mocking him for a lack of courage in a statement circulated by her office.
The toughly worded statement used critical remarks from Republicans such as Senate Minority Whip John Thune (S.D.) to underscore a GOP divide over Greene, who has supported the QAnon conspiracy theory in the past.
jamesb says
Politico
he No. 2 House Democrat later told reporters he couldn’t think of one instance that was “analogous” to the Greene situation during his 40 years in Congress. Greene has made other lawmakers “fear for their welfare” and Democrats believe she “gave comfort” to the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol last month, Hoyer added…..
jamesb says
With this build up?
House Democrats BETTER do something….
CG says
I have made no excuses for her, unlike you and Rev. Al and I have denounced everything associated with her.
But we should not establish new laws or new standards based on distaste for one person. Our Constitution and democracy is much bigger and better than that.
CG says
“People ARE getting arrested every day for saying pretty much what Rep. Greene said”
Completely devoid of reality. Not a great surprise.
CG says
That statement was actually one of the most preposterous claims I have ever seen on here, and that’s really saying something.
CG says
That’s the sort of “Deep State” or “Secret Police” black helicopter “free speech under assault” that her ilk would want us to believe is happening, but it is not.
Free speech is not under assault and should not be.
I think perhaps james is confusing “getting suspended from Twitter” (which she has not even been) with “getting arrested.” Very different things.
jamesb says
CG?
The new House member wanted physical harm to happen to members of the body she now eorks in…
Toxic work place?
I don’t care if she thinks Trump still won…
Member’s of her OWN party want her to repent and shit the fuck up..
McCarthy called her out…
McConnell and orhers called her out….
This isn’t about and I…..
We BOTH agree she should be stripped of committee assignments…
I actually agree with u
Her own party should be doing this…
But absent that?
SIMEBODY HAS to stop this continuation of the Trump attack on the American government and our Democracy from the ‘inside’
If the Democrats do it tomorrow…
So be it..
CG says
Where is the evidence of what you suggested? It does not exist.
Calling somebody out has nothing to do with anything. I have said scores of times that Republicans should strip her of her committee assignments. I do not think Democrats should have the right to make Committee assignments for Republicans or vice versa. These standards and precedents will exist long after MTG is out of office.
If Republicans do not act, Democrats are of course in their right to criticize, but they cannot dictate the actions of another party or overturn an election. The next election is coming up shortly.
As said anything associated with 1/6 is being investigated as it should be. But it is being investigated by people who are far smarter about these sort of things and have a far greater sense of civic responsibility than you.
jamesb says
The reality IS people who threatened members of Congress ARE getting arrested..
CG says
Those who physically broke into the Capitol are getting arrested as they should be. It’s a relatively small number. As Americans, they are are entitled to Due Process.
There are many, many more people saying crazy things (from whatever side of the spectrum) on social media and they are not getting arrested,
Kathy Griffin certainly did not get arrested when she posed with the severed fake head of Donald Trump and I do not believe you would have wanted her to.
jamesb says
400 is small?
Some associated with the group’s are also being investigated and will be arrested….
Greene HAS made her fellow workers worried and scared….
She should NOT be allowed to be resolute about THAT….
U would not be happy if u worked under tha same conditions…
This REALLY IS about McCarthy being a balless wonder…
CG says
Yes, compared to the hundreds of thousands of people who say nasty things about politicians and all sorts of celebrities on Twitter, Facebook, etc, everyday.
This concept that she is some physical danger is ridiculous. It’s like saying that somebody should not be in Congress because they are a Muslim, and I definitely pushed back forcefully against those on the right who suggested that about Muslim Democrats in Congress.
CG says
If she won’t go through the metal detectors, than fine her. If she won’t wear her mask, fine her.
It’s very simple.
McCarthy is a joke and has been for a long time. Liz Cheney should be the GOP Leader.
The bottom line is that Republicans Leadership should put Republicans on Committees (or take them off) and Democrats should do that for Democrats an Independents should try to find a way to make a deal with one of the parties for those assignments. That is the way it ALWAYS worked and should remain. The rest is up to the voters in 435 individual districts.
jamesb says
These times ARE different
Trump IS to blame…
jamesb says
The Hill
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced no disciplinary actions against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in a statement released as he met with his caucus.
During the meeting, he told members he did not want to remove Greene from her committee assignment, according to a senior GOP source in the room.
In the statement, McCarthy condemned her incendiary remarks, but offered no disciplinary actions.
jamesb says
The Hill
They don’t even realize they’re helping me. I’m pretty amazed at how dumb they are,” Greene told the Washington Examiner, referring to those pushing for her removal.
Democrats and some Republicans are advocating for Greene to be removed from the Education and Budget committees in the House…
….
Greene said she expects to lose her committee assignments. She asserted the move helps free her up to focus on other issues, such as campaigning for Republicans in 2022 House races.
This IS the problem CG
Like Trump?
She don’t give a shit
CG says
Right, this is working out for her perfectly. She is becoming a “martyr.”
Now, right is right and Republicans should have cleaned up this mess, but now she and McCarthy are both off the hook just because Democrats want to scores short-term political goals.
One day, Republicans will have a majority again (we all know politics moves in cycles) and they will find a Democrat and take the same sort of punitive action.
CG says
Then let Trump be charged criminally if that is where the evidence leads.
None of that has anything to do with which party gets to decide Committee assignments for a Member of Congress.
jamesb says
CG?
She KNOWS she’s doing the wrong thing and don’t care….
THAT IS DANGEROUS….
She IS A FEDERAL LAWMAKER …
Not just anybody
She swore, Trump to defend her country…
Her oath meant nothing to her?
CG says
I don’t know what you are trying to say. There are a ton of politicians, in both parties, who should not be in office.
But in America, we have always respected the choices of voters.
jamesb says
As long as the people we pay to represent us stick to the rules and norms..
Greene’s idol Trump didn’t and lost his job…
CG says
Rules are rules. You don’t get to necessarily determine the norms, but since you brought it up, the rules and norms have ALWAYS been that Members are given committee assignments by their party and not the other.
Hopefully, she would lose her job the same way Trump did, but Pelosi is going to be making it easier for her to be reelected.
CG says
The New York Giants sucked last year. Do you think the Philadelphia Eagles should pick whom the Giants select in the Draft?
No, let the Giants mess that up for themselves and you and the other fans can boo the choice, per tradition

Duke is College basketball team and they suck this year…

That IS true now….
But like Trump?

Good discussion!

As I have said, she should be stripped of her committee assignments by her own party.
But the political grandstanding, while understandable, can be a bit much.
Is taking her off a committee going to make her any less “dangerous?” Is she truly a physical threat? If so, there should be evidence to charge her criminally and lock her up. Otherwise, it’s nonsense.
Scott P says
Surprise surprise. McCarthy ain’t gonna shit about Greene.
Let’s see if CG can spin it that it was somehow Jack and my fault that House GOP leadership has absolutely zero balls.
David Duke just missed his time I guess.
If he were able to be elected to Congress now McCarthy probably would have let him wear his Klan robe and keep a swastika in his office.
Pathetic pathetic party.
CG says
He doesn’t need to. In a way Democrats are letting him off the hook. I said countless times she should be removed from the committees. But this is McCarthy’s problem, not Nancy Pelosi’s.
jamesb says
No
McCarthy is a spineless coward….
And i have pointed out Pelosi had people ransack her office and threatened to hurt her
He talks the talk but don’t walk the walk…
CG says
The “people” are being charged criminally, as you point out.
That has nothing to do with thinking the opposite party should decide committee assignments.
This is not “Guy’s Grocery Games” where chefs shop for their ingredients, only to have the “Mayor of Flavortown” make them switch baskets and cook with the other person’s stuff.

The threatened bodily harm …
They lost their 1st amend right to say whatever…
CG?
Few if any Republicans have accepted Greene’s actions.,..
They are just scared of Trump supporters whi still think ‘their’ guy won…
REALLY CG…..
You’re swimming against the tide on this
Even Greene admits she’s about to get cancelled…

The reality is unless some investigation uncovers coordination between MTG and the Insurrections, she had and has nothing to do with it. Frankly, there were at least two male Members of the House who should be looked at far more suspectly.
She had a valid reason to be in the Capitol on 1/6. The Insurrections broke the law. For better or worse, MTG is a legitimate member of the federal government. You already know where I stand on that “or.”
You are trivializing a very serious situation by making it about this.
CG says
I’m rooting for the Chiefs.
If a penalty gets called on either team on Sunday, it should not mean the opposing coach gets to call the play for the other team.

He, he, he
It ain’t Congress…
And these guys hug and shake hands at the end of each game…

McCarthy moves to keep splintering GOP intact, with protection for both Cheney and Greene
The top House Republican leader moved Wednesday to keep his splintering party intact — declining to take concrete action against a freshman lawmaker whose extremist rhetoric prompted widespread outrage, while also moving to protect a senior party leader who faced calls for her ouster after backing Donald Trump’s impeachment.
The moves from Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reflected the delicate path the GOP is blazing through the post-Trump political landscape as it seeks to regain power in Washington…
