Biden’s approval without the tweeter and chaos factor remains high across the board….
Other poll’s have him in the 50’s% range….
But this new Associated Press spikes it up to 61%….
Overall?
Americans seem to be MUCH happier with who they voted in to led the country for the next 4 years….
Two weeks into a new administration, a majority of Americans say they have at least some confidence in President Joe Biden and his ability to manage the myriad crises facing the nation, including the raging coronavirus pandemic.
Overall, 61% approve of Biden’s handling of his job in his first days in office, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Though the bulk of Biden’s support is from fellow Democrats, about a quarter of Republicans say they approve of his early days in office.
Even at a moment of deep national divisions, those numbers suggest Biden, as with most of his recent predecessors, may enjoy something of a honeymoon period. Nearly all modern presidents have had approval ratings averaging 55% or higher over their first three months in office, according to Gallup polling. There was one exception: Donald Trump, whose approval rating never surpassed 50% in Gallup polls, even at the start of his presidency….
Note….
Republican approval numbers for Biden are +23% and -77%…..

Kroger’s says they will pay their employees $100 yo get vaccinated.Ive read where a few other private companies are offering similar type inducements.
It seems strange that we as a society have reached a point where people have to be bribed to do the right thing to try to stop this massive public health emergency which has literally crippled our country.(former presidential candidate John Delaney proposed tying any federal stimulus money to proof of vaccination).
Then again these are strange times indeed.People refusing to wear masks to protect themselves and others because of “freedom”( almost makes that word an obscenity) .Others insisting on going to “church” in large groups to “worship.” Really? Its more important to sit in a building listening to a paid performer “preach” the gospel rather than staying home ,in this terrible crisis we find ourselves in and with the modern ability we have to listen and see to the whole thing on video ?

“We need to acknowledge he let us down.He went down a path he shouldn’t have, and we shouldn’t have followed him,and we shouldn’t have listened to him.And we can’t let that ever happen again.”

Zreebs says
To the best of my recollection, that is the worst thing I heard Haley say about Trump.
Mild criticism that is so general that it could mean different things to different people. “He let us down” could mean nothing more than he lost in a year that the GOP picked up lots of house seats.

My Name Is Jack says
Nikki is now being taken to task for making the comment that she never thought Trump was “dangerous .”
Unfortunately for her, the record is replete with her making comments to the effect that he was indeed dangerous during the nomination battle in 2016 in which she supported Marco Rubio.
It looks like Nikki has made the not unreasonable calculation that there are at present several 2024 contenders trying to be the biggest Trump sycophant leaving a void to represent the non or anti Trump faction of the Republican Party , a distinct minority at present ,in the hope it will grow over the coming months and she can be their candidate.
She may get some competition from Ben Sasse and Adam Kinzinger if either decides to take the plunge.
CG says
What she is saying here now, with the tone and words is pretty much precisely what I said she and others would eventually be saying and trying to position themselves. Of course, it is all calculated but this is a sign that these ambitious politicians will realize that they have to find a way to move on from Trump. Others will be following this lead, in one way or another, trying to distance themselves from Trump, but placing no responsibility on those who did believe in him or defend him.
Of course, the only correct answer for conservatives would have been to oppose him on principle, values, and morality from the moment he walked down an escalator in 2015 and to have opposed him every day since.
But as the saying go, all things come to pass, and to everything there is a Season.

Timeline for Releasing Redistricting Data
February 12, 2021
written By James Whitehorne, Chief of the Redistricting and Voting Rights Data Office
https://www.census.gov/newsroom/blogs/random-samplings/2021/02/timeline-redistricting-data.html
https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2021/statement-redistricting-data-timeline.html
If this were a typical decade, we would be on the verge of delivering the first round of redistricting data from the 2020 Census. Our original plan was to deliver the data in state groupings starting Feb. 18, 2021 and finishing by March 31, 2021.
However, COVID-19 delayed census operations significantly. Consistent with previous census, we are focusing first on our constitutional obligation to deliver the state population counts for apportionment to the President. As we announced last week, the deadline for this work is April 30, 2021. This focus on meeting our constitutional obligation has delayed some of the processing activities necessary to generate the redistricting counts. We expect to deliver the redistricting data to the states and the public by Sept. 30, 2021.
Now that we have finalized the schedule for completing the apportionment counts (by April 30), we have been able to finalize a schedule for the redistricting data.
Delivering by September 30,/b>
This data delivery will be a single national delivery, rather than our originally-planned staggered delivery of redistricting data.
This national delivery allows us to:
* Ensure we are delivering the high-quality fit-for-use data products the states need for redistricting.
* Complete delivery to all states several weeks earlier than the last states would have otherwise received it.
* Better manage the production process.
We are acutely aware of the difficulties that this delayed delivery of the redistricting data will cause some states. Some states have statutory or even state constitutional deadlines and processes that they will have to address due to this delay.
The decision to have a single national delivery ensures that the Census Bureau can provide accurate, high quality, and fit-for-use data in the least total amount of time to all states.
Following our thorough and complete process provides the best assurance to the states that these data meet the quality standards they expect and require to underpin their important decisions. …

I spoke of the John Weaver revelations on here a few weeks ago, Nobody else commented.
Clearly, Weaver had a secret life for a long time and all of his past credibility should be damaged, including the fact that he is the person who was behind the allegations against Karl Rove regarding South Carolina in the 2000 primaries. He was probably lying about that too. For his part, Rove has now said he has known Weaver had an issue regarding young men for decades.

Well, the Lincoln Project accused Trump of sexual improprieties, but that doesn’t mean the Lincoln Project was lying about that. It is disturbing to read something like this because I respected the Lincoln Project. I thought that many of the commercials it put out were of the highest quality. I still do, by the way.
It is disturbing that sexual predators can get away with being that way for so long and still remain in positions of power. And the irony of course is that the reason sexual predators are sometimes able to get away with their serial behavior for so long is exactly because they are in positions of power.
My Name Is Jack says
The Lincoln Project is definitely on the ropes.
One of the founders ,George Conway, today called for shuting it down as have several others.
Claim is also being made that Steve Schmidt, one of the founders, was aware of John Weavers sexual activities long before they came to light.
The LP made some good commercials .Too bad about what happened to it? Bad news for anti Trump Republicans who need something like LP to help spearhead their efforts to destroy Trumps influence.
Zreebs says
The Lincoln Project had more issues than just Weaver, The Lincoln Project brought in boatloads of money, and made the founders obscenely wealthy.
It needs to go away.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The Lincoln Project was just one (perhaps the earliest) of several anti-Trump Republican projects that couldn’t unify for reasons that are obscure to me.
Apart from the Main Street Republicans who have been around for some time (at least since the birth of the Tea Party), there were several ad-hoc groups that got together in the face of the 2020 election.
So folding The Lincoln Project doesn’t mean there’s no more opposition to the Trumpification of a once-grand old party.
CG could certainly tell you more.
My Name Is Jack says
LP was certainly the best known.
As for the Main Street Republicans? They are in no way anti Trump.Indeed much of their membership are well known Trump supporters.
CG says
John Weaver has been a registered Democrat since the Bush Administration. Steve Schmidt says he is now a registered Democrat.
I agree they made some good ads, but some of the people in the leadership had decided they would rather be Democrats than fight Trumpism in the Republican Party,
My Name Is Jack says
Really?Well Weaver wasn’t much of a Democrat.
According to his Wikipedia entry ,he was Chief strategist for Jon Huntsman in 2012 and worked in John Kasichs campaign in 2016.
As for Schmidt, he had a good gig as an Anti Trump Republican on MSNBC .Then announced he was leaving the party last year.Probably a bad career move.No longer can MSNBC advertise him as a “Republican “ blasting other Republicans,ie ,Trump.
CG says
Yeah, Weaver worked for those Republicans after becoming a Democrat. He publicly declared himself a Democrat and supported John Kerry in 2004.
Schmidt, whom did nothing at all to try to talk John McCain out of choosing Sarah Palin, now is just another anti-Trump Democrat.
My Name Is Jack says
So he was a Democrat when he worked for McCain in 2008?
Sounds like a Zell Miller Democrat.
Weaver calling himself a “Democrat” is laughable ,but what’s even more funny is these anti Trump Republicans hiring him to run a Republican organization dedicated to turning Republicans against Trump.
CG says
He became a Democrat because of a feud with Karl Rove. He was an adviser on the Kerry campaign in 2004 and of course tried to get Kerry to pick McCain for VP. At around the same time he also worked with Tom Daschle to try to get McCain to become a Democrat.
He is the one that accused Rove of doing all those things in SC when there was no evidence whatsoever. I think Weaver’s reputation should be considered even more suspect now.
Rove says know that he knew about Weaver’s secret life for decades but never used it against him or as a means of defending himself against Weaver.
CG says
As for 2008, Weaver was basically fired by John McCain that year, and then later on is believed to have planted a false story in the New York Times about McCain and a female lobbyist.
My Name Is Jack says
So McCain hired a Democrat to run his campaign?
That’s interesting.
Funny, I don’t remember anything being said about that then. You would have thought Republicans would have been jumping up and down.
That’s sort of weird.
CG says
He didn’t run the McCain campaign in 2008.
Weaver became a Democrat in 2002, worked for the DCCC, and then informally for Kerry’s 2004 race.
He had some role early on for McCain in 2007, but was then let go when McCain shook up his dormant campaign.
But yeah a lot of people in that cycle had concerns about Weaver and McCain as well. You may not remember, but I was for Romney in that cycle.
CG says
and it’s not really unheard of. I doubt you were all that upset when Republican Dick Morris took over Bill Clinton’s 1996 re-election campaign.
CG says
Perhaps the bottom line, looking at Weaver and Morris are that these turncoat consultants are all secretly perverted.
Zreebs says
Give up! It’s always the Democrat’s fault!
CG says
Who said anything about “fault.”
The topic is the Lincoln Project and Weaver and Schmidt are Democrats, not Republicans.
The Lincoln Project made good ads, but Trump has been defeated, thanks in part to their efforts, so I do not think they really have a reason to exist beyond that at this point.
Those who have become Democrats have made their choice, distinct from those who want to change or save the Republican Party, or even those who see the potential necessity of a third party.
Zreebs says
I have no reason to believe the Lincoln project founders are Democrats permanently. They believe correctly that if the GOP will return to what it used to be, then these guys. Red to be defeated.
CG says
There are a lot of different “Founders” of the Lincoln Project, and clearly some have different ideas about how to move forward.
But if some decided to use the effort as a means to line their pockets, that is a problem. George Conway is right that transparency is a must.

jamesb says
Censure = ????
Zreebs says
An indication that your behavior or values is not accepted and is considered offensive or worst.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Amy Walter & Tamara Keith gave me a useful reminder on the PBS NewsHour last night that the Trump machine systematically purged and reorganized the party infrastructure, especially state central committees and chairs, to avert any possible challenge (no matter how futile or symbolic) to Donald Trump’s renomination. Similarly, many state GOP’s (or their legislative allies) cancelled their presidential primaries, and the National Convention did not (for the first time since 1854) adopt a platform, asserting that the Thoughts of Chairman Don (at any given time) were sufficient.
So it surprises me far less that the Republican State Central Committee of North Carolina or the Republican committee in Adam Kinzinger’s congressional district voted so unanimously to deliver the most Trumpian censures of the people they (at leasst nominally) helped to elect.
CG says
My understanding is that there were some smaller counties in Kinzinger’s district that voted to “censure” which was of course literally the action of 4-5 people and other counties who deadlocked or voted not to censure.
CG says
There has certainly not been any statewide action taken by the Illinois Republican Party.
Scott P says
It’s funny to watch these Republicans insist that censoring isn’t part of “cancel culture”–something that Jim Jordan said was the #1 issue facing the US the other day.

Quite apparently,”cancel culture” is only something Democrats do ,according to Republicans.

Rush Limbaugh, influential talk radio pioneer who helped shape modern-day GOP, dead at 70
Rush Limbaugh, the monumentally influential media icon who transformed talk radio and politics in his decades behind the microphone, helping shape the modern-day Republican Party, died Wednesday morning at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer, his family announced.
Limbaugh’s wife, Kathryn, made the announcement on his radio show. “Losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life,” she said. “Rush will forever be the greatest of all time.”
The radio icon learned he had Stage IV lung cancer in January 2020 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by then-President Trump at the State of the Union address days later. First lady Melania Trump then presented America’s highest civilian honor to Limbaugh in an emotional moment on the heels of his devastating cancer diagnosis….

I strongly disagree with this, but it does not feel like a discussion that will lead to anything here.
Scott P says
Of course. Because you see Trump as the problem in your party but have no problem with the elements that created him.
CG says
It wouldn’t be productive to have this conversation here, but the rise of Trumpism was pretty much antithetical to what I had heard Rush Limbaugh speak about for years, back when I was an avid listener.
No, he was not perfect, and I did not always agree with him, even in my High School years, but he spoke about the promise and possibilities of America and how anyone can succeed. Trump is all about grievance and unfairness of America to those who have not succeeded. Limbaugh, in his later years, twisted himself to stay on the right side of his audience members who had become seduced by the Dark Side.
The two men did have bombast and self-promotion in common though. With Rush, it was always seen as part of an entertainer’s flair. Trump seems to have genuine issues in that regard though.
Scott P says
Ha! Limbaugh trafficked in grievance for over 30 years.
Feminazi.
Celebrating the deaths of gay men from AIDS.
Lamenting that white people can’t use the N word.
The list goes on and on.
CG says
I think you would have to have some sort of back-up for specific claims like that beyond internet rumors, etc.
It also is not related to what i was saying.
The only one I am familiar with is “feminazi” which specifically referred to a woman who is angry when a woman chooses NOT to have an abortion or who feel that there are not nearly enough abortions.
Limbaugh would mock the left.. “demonstrate absurdity by being absurd” and make them comical. Trump turned them into something to be considered an existential threat.
Scott P says
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/rush-limbaugh-mock-aids-gays/
CG says
So, this is saying he did a bit on show for a few weeks and then in 1990, he himself decided it was being misconstrued or was seen as insensitive, so he stopped. That would have been years before you or I ever heard of him or would have listened. He is quoted in saying how much he regretted it.
So, he stopped something that was bad a long time ago. That’s a good thing. I am sure there is a lot from Howard Stern’s on air past, etc, that he also regrets.
Scott P says
His entire professional life he made terrible choices that a terrible person makes. From mocking the deaths of gay men from AIDS in 1990 to celebrating cop killers in the Capitol in 2021.
Very little of his life was spent being anything but a piece of shit. And he won’t be missed.
CG says
I was neither a listener in 1990 nor 2021. The 1990 example though is something that was short-lived, he felt misconstrued, and that he clearly regretted and stopped doing in short order.
He is someone who literally talked publicly for thousands and thousands of hours. I do not think there is any person who could do that and not have some examples of things that can regretted or taken in the wrong context.
Harping on that at the end of someone’s life is not consistent with you being so upset when I needle you about your 2004 “die in a fire” tirade.
Whatever his flaws, he also did a lot for charity, and while it is fine for you to not miss him, he will have a wife and other family members and pets that will surely miss him.
Zreebs says
I suspect that the reason you don’t want to admit to the type of person Limbaugh was because you know we know you were an avid listener of Limbaugh for years. I only listened to Limbaugh a handful of times, but his hatred was over the top. Scott is right. Limbaugh would compare gays to pedaphiles and he would use slurs to groups he hated – like “trannys” or DemocRat (emphasis on the last syllable) Party.
CG says
People are complex. He had good qualities and bad qualities. I soured on his program a long time ago, but I was definitely an avid listener when I was in High School and college. When someone passes away, unless they are truly an unrepentant terrorist or criminal or something like that, it is best to focus on positive qualities or the fact that people in their own lives are mourning them. There is no doubt that Limbaugh was wildly successful in what he did and succeeded as few Americans ever had by being so good as a pioneer in his industry.
There is someone who posts on here who I think is one of the worst humans I have ever encountered, and of course, I could point to numerous stories, (with backup in most cases) of things he said and did, going back to decades ago, but if he passed away, I would not revel in it. I would feel sympathy.
I do not think Limbaugh compared gays to pedophiles or even used the word “tranny” on air. You would have to provide some back-up on that. Those who would have only listened a “handful of times” would not really know. And I am curious how the word Democrat is supposed to be pronounced or how exactly he did so.
It is true that “PC culture gone amok” was a recurring theme of his and also something that helped produce a Trump Presidency. One hardly needs to be on the far right to have seen issues though with the “PC culture”, etc, as even Bill Maher, definitely not a conservative, has frequently focused on that as well.
Zreebs says
Do a search for Limbaugh and tranny and a separate search for Limbaugh, gay and pedaphiles. Most likely you already know what you will find.
It is called the “Democratic party”, not the “DemocRAT party”.
You can admire Limbaugh for (God knows what), but the truth deserves to be said about him, regardless of whether he helped shape your values during you young adult years.

Pretty weak sauce, especially this “Democrat” thing.
It is only in recent years, when we as a society have come to accept that the term “tranny” is not politically correct and we should say “transsexual” instead. I would bet that you even used the former term yourself in your past. I remember you did not know until a few years ago that “Oriental” was considered an outdated and offensive term.

I have stated my personal feelings in that I have felt betrayed by Rush Limbaugh in recent years.
Still though, I think it is sad when people die, pretty much in all circumstances. Maybe that makes me old-fashioned. Maybe our political blood sport tribalism is more in fashion, the way people who also love Trump believe.
And whatever one feels about Limbaugh personally or his politics, there can be no doubt that he was incredibly successful and influential in what he did and that he in a way pioneered and then dominated an industry (though his prominence faded in recent years) in a way that few ever have in any field.

A consummate patriot, a happy warrior and a Cassandra too, an entertainer, the man of shtick and humility who day in and out, over decades, informed and formed millions, who connected with them in such numbers never before experienced, has passed away after a prolonged and brutal battle with cancer. His death comes as no surprise, but having come, it brings with it deserved sorrow and reflection. We assume too calumny from the graceless and the grave dancers.
The particular affliction that occupied his life’s last chapter was so egregious it would likely have felled a normal human swiftly. But Rush Limbaugh was no normal human. Somewhere within the lovable little fuzzball was a wellspring of remarkable determination: …
