The trip is said to be to try to get Trump to stop tearing the Grand ole’ Party apart for his own sake….
Trump doesn’t have a government job , but Graham and others do and they want to get more people elected to Congress next year…
(He wants Trump to let up on Senate Minority leader McConnell)
The spotlight on Trump beatdowns are probably NOT helpful…
Sen. Lindsey Graham is heading to Mar-a-Lago this weekend to meet with Donald Trump in hopes of bridging a growing rift in the top echelon of the Republican Party, CNN has learned.
According to a person familiar with his plans, Graham plans to spend his time on the golf course with Trump — ideally convincing the former president that regaining congressional majorities for Republicans will help bolster his own presidential legacy. This person said Graham wants to be “constructive,” urging Trump to use his influence for the party’s good.
Graham is the latest Republican to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, the No. 2 House Republican, met privately with Trump there on Wednesday, the same day that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell vowed never to do so.
A staunch ally of Trump’s, Graham has said in recent weeks he is concerned with how the feud between Trump and McConnell will affect Republicans’ chances in next year’s midterm elections.
“They’re now at each other’s throat,” Graham said on Fox News this week. “I’m more worried about 2022 than I’ve ever been. I don’t want to eat our own.”
Like McConnell, Graham has the next election at the top of his agenda. But while McConnell has made a conscious decision to ignore Trump and wants the party to move beyond the twice-impeached former president, Graham is trying to engage Trump to help the party’s chances….

Can you give us neophytes here a timetable on when Trump is going to “fade away?”
jamesb says
Never…..
He’s gonna need $$$$ for a LONG TIME….
This is NOT about Trump….
If the ‘party’ keeps letting him pimp them?
He’ll keep trying to make money…..
jamesb says
Chris Cillizza
@ChrisCillizza
Donald Trump could care less about what’s best for the Republican Party
My Name Is Jack says
Well since Republicans overwhelmingly support him?
I presume then that Republicans themselves “ could care less what’s best for the Republican Party.”
See that’s the problem with pithy little comments like Cilliza which you subscribe to.
The Republican Party ,as the Democratic Party ,is made up of people. Its not some organic being. Its just the people who identify with it.Obviously the vast majority of those who so do so with the Republican Party believe Trump is what’s best for them.
The fact that Cilliza and people like you tell them differently ,is irrelevant and immaterial of much of anything.
Zreebs says
So, by saying “Never”, does this mean you now think that Trump will always remain the Kingpin of the GOP and he will be every bit as popular in 8 years as he is now. If not, please define “Never”.
jamesb says
NO….
Donald Trump WILL seek attention till the end….
But AGAIN?
The guy IS about MONEY….
The just razed his namesake casino in Jersey
His Tower in Manhattan isn’t a draw anymore…
In Ireland they are reviewing his tax status…
The NY AG owns his Foundation and the Manhattan DA and the AG ARE after his business….
He owes the IRS $75M+….
The guy will be paying a shitload of lawyers for the next five years….
Z?
The guys needs MONEY….
He don’t need the Presidency….
My Name Is Jack says
So your earlier statements that when Trump left the presidency he would no longer have real power in the Republican Party was garbage.
The revisionism is now in full swing.
Now?He “never” will “fade away!”
jamesb says
I stand by my statement Jack….
As I HAVE pointed out here over and OVER….
His political power did NOT enable him to turn one state from reporting the CORRECT vote number’s in November….
The Republicans LOST TWO US Senate seats in Red and now maybe Purple Georgia….
Lindsey Graham is going down to Florida to try to get the knucklehead to cease and desist from beating on McConnell….
Why Jack?
Because the numnuts is SO powerful that he very WELL DESTROY the Republican Party…
Real power in MY mind would be get something done….
Joe Biden is undoing most of what Trump has done and starting the things he never got to….
‘The Donald’ is NEVER gonna be the thing the media portrays him to be….
Why?
Cause EVERYTHING he touches turns to shit….
And the Grand ole’ Party is no exception…
Keith says
What you have just written, both contradicts everything you have ever written about Trump and makes no sense.
Congratulations!
My Name Is Jack says
Thanks.
I was going to write a more lengthy piece on his farcical”I stand by my statement” routine.
However, I realized that your single sentence says it all.
Why waste my time?
Sadly,I don’t think he even understands what he did.
Zreebs says
No. He doesn’t understand, and further explanation won’t help.
You are correct that James often responds viscerally, and so his writing are inconsistent from one day to the next, and sometimes from one hour to the next. But he doesn’t recognize that because he forgets what he previously wrote. So, In his mind, he is totally consistent.
For these reasons, lengthy interactions with James always end with deep frustration – at least on my part. With at least everyone else here, I at least get a sense of where they are coming from.
And it doesn’t help James that his writing skill is worse than any adult I have ever known.
jamesb says
I write what I believe and HAVE seen…..
Donald Ttump is NOT what a LOT of people THINK he is….
And?
People make him out to much more that a bull shitting NYC Real Estate guy that fucks up whatever he touches….
Like Giuliani…
People thought he WAS GREAT…
But most New Yorkers KNEW he was another fuck-up….
You were told…
But hey?
You guys can join the crowd….
It’s what he wants to hear…
My Name Is Jack says
“You guys can join the crowd.”
In that one Sentence you show yourself to be either a congenital Liar or a monumental dumbass.
No one here has ever said Donald Trump is “great.” That’s a lie.
What all of us ,except you and CG ,said was that Trumps defeat would not result in his “ fading from the scene,” that nowhere near a majority are deserting him and that he would remain a major figure in the Republican Party.
You have consistently claimed that Republicans would come to their senses and that the party would return to some semblance of sanity.Despite some occasional blabbering to the contrary by a very few Republican national figures, obviously nothing remotely like that is happening.
“I write what I’ve seen and believe.” Another life. You constantly contradict yourself. You constantly lie about what other posters say.You constantly set up straw men to knock them down and then dishonestly claim you were responding to a fellow poster.Zreebs was right on target .
Look ,you do a fairly good job in posting various stories to encourage discussion. However ,your remarks are,for the most part ,either unintelligible or nothing but a collection of rigamarole ,falsehoods ,and non responses to those of other posters. In many ways you have made yourself into an object of scorn and derision in an almost masochistic fashion.
I once opined that you were like someone roaming around with a sign stuck on their rear end saying “Please kick me in the ass and kick me hard!”
I enjoy the interaction with the other posters here. You ,however, could use a little reflection on what it is you’re doing here. You ,at various times ,have suggested that posters here should take some time off.” I think we all have done so here and there, myself included.
Maybe you should reduce your remarks to other posters and reflect a little on these inane, false and really dumb ways in which you respond to us.I doubt you will and such is the pity.
But ignorance is bliss. As you sit there, while the rest of us figuratively shake our heads at these absurd responses to our posts, you fold you arms and smugly declare that you are “right.”
Like I said earlier…Sad.
jamesb says
In fact there ARE Republicans who ARE trying to get Trump to STOP looking at trying to subjugate the ENTIRE party….
The idea that the GOP is ‘his’ party is not correct I see….
I see a party that is fighting itself…
Establishment types worried and working quietly to try get around the noisy attention grabbing Trump…
The same Trump responsible for a filed attempt to do the same thing he’s done with their party to the nation’s Congress…
I do Not agree with you that Trump ‘owns’ the party….
The ‘party’ is NOT just the lowering Trump supporters …
It IS made of a fuid mix…
The media portrait is a simple easy sell….
In fact I HAVE reflected and presented my view here…
I will continue to do so….
I welcome the criticism here…
It IS what this place IS about…
Not ALL of us follow the leader….
THAT IS same thing I point out among Republicans…
Let ALL their views be shown…
I can handle THAT….

Here’s MORE on the continuing ‘Trump’ party internal sticking together ….
U.S. Sen. John Thune is criticizing Republican activists and party leaders for engaging in “cancel culture” by rushing to censure GOP senators who found former President Donald Trump guilty of inciting an insurrection.
In his first interview since he voted to acquit Trump, the Senate’s No. 2 Republican on Thursday defended fellow Republicans who sided with Democrats on the “vote of conscience” and warned against shutting out dissenting voices in the party….
…
“You’ve got to face the music, and at some point, it’s got to be over and you’ve got to move on,” he said, adding, “I think it’s just important to tell people the truth. The most important responsibility of any leader is to define reality.”

Zreebs says
James, Jack did a good job in summing up the problems. You should know that we all agree with him. Here is brief, but very doable comprehensive advice, following up on what Jack said.
1) Respond less to other people’s posts. Too often you misinterpret them, and your responses accusing people of saying things they didn’t is annoying. And if you are not responding to another person, don’t hit “Reply”. Instead start your own post.
2) Take at least one class at a community college on writing. Jack understands your writing better than the rest of us, but even he feels you are often incomprehensible. At a minimum, spend more time reading what you wrote before you send it. this will help you come across as more intelligent.
If you would do just these two things, we all would appreciate it. We are rooting for you to improve your game. Thank you.
jamesb says
Thanks Z…..
I’ll try to get better….
But it ain’t guaranteed to make some people feel better….

Ah Yes…..
The WashPost spends some ink on my point of view on one Senator Lindsey Graham,a Republican, goes which ever way the wind blows….
Lindsey Graham said ‘Count me out’ after the Capitol riot. But he’s all in with Trump again.
Hours after a violent mob ransacked the Capitol last month in support of President Donald Trump, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham vowed he had seen enough.
“Count me out,” Graham (R-S.C.) said in an impassioned speech on the Senate floor, adding that he was sad to see his journey with Trump end this way. In an interview two days later, Graham said “he’d never been so humiliated and embarrassed for the country” and spoke in palpable frustration over how his longtime ally handled the riot.
Just weeks later, he is singing a different tune. Graham is set to visit the former president’s gilded Mar-a-Lago Club on Sunday to spend two days golfing and dining with Trump. He has spoken to the former president nearly daily since Jan. 6 — more frequently than any of his Republican colleagues in the Senate — and served as an informal adviser to Trump’s defense team during his Senate impeachment trial this month….

Yes,WITHIN the Republican Party .
This does absolutely Nothing to support your “view” that Graham will become Bidens buddy or some kind of quasi Democrat .
A perfect example of what I commented on yesterday, how you post something and then extrapolate from it a “point” that isn’t even there.
You still don’t understand that supporting a sitting President on an issue here and there is nothing unusual nor even noteworthy.
jamesb says
My point is simply he went one way Jan 6 th and he’s NOW going another way….
Jack?
He IS trying to get Trump to STFU against McConnell and ‘help’ the ‘party’….
You do NOT ‘get it’ ….
Donald Trump doesn’t fell he own a damn thing…
He doesn’t CARE Jack….
He just cares about HIMSELF….
I say this over and OVER but ‘YOU do NOT get it’….
Donald J. Trump DDOES NOT ACRE if the Republicans have a majority in the Senate….
Nor does he CARE if the Republican Party has a majority in the House….
He just CARES if you follow ‘him’ off the cliff….
And he does THAT for ego and MONEY….
I WILL keep repeating the chumps history…
Just about EVERY FUCKING thing he touches turns to shit….
The Grand ole Party is NO different….
Graham KNOWS this….
McConnell KNOWS THIS….
McConnell has come to terms with this as have others….
The party of supporters are what you have pointed out….
Haters of Democrats and the Left….
Trump just borrows this….
I posted before comments from Howard Stein…
Stein says Trump detest’s the Republican voters….
He looks down on them….
He went to Georgia and shitcanned The GOPer’s there because he wanted then to help ‘HIM”….
Jack?
I ‘Get It’
You do NOT….
jamesb says
The Grand ole party is just a vehicle for Trump’s ego….

As Long as they bow down to him ?
He’s ok…
He couldn’t give a rats ass if they ever will another election

Arkansas Governor Won’t Support Trump In 2024
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) told CNN that he would not support former President Trump if he ran for the White House again in 2024, pointing to the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Said Hutchinson: “I would not support him for reelection in 2024.”

Lindsey Graham Tries to Harness Trump’s ‘Magic’
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Axios that Donald Trump has a “dark side” but he tries to “harness the magic” because he succeeded where Republican candidates like John McCain and Mitt Romney failed.
Said Graham: “To me, Donald Trump is sort of a cross between Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan and P.T. Barnum.”
He added: “He could make the Republican Party something that nobody else I know can make it. He can make it bigger. He can make it stronger. He can make it more diverse. And he also could destroy it.”

Clyburn Says Lindsey Graham Needs to Go to Church
House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) blasted Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) over his comments that aid to Black farmers in the Covid-19 relief bill are “reparations,” CNN reports.
Said Clyburn: “Lindsey Graham is from South Carolina. He knows South Carolina’s history. He knows what the state of South Carolina and this country has done to Black farmers in South Carolina. They didn’t do it to White farmers. We’re trying to rescue the lives and livelihoods of people. He ought to be ashamed of himself.”
He added: “I think you ought to go back and maybe go to church. Get in touch with his Christianity.”
My Name Is Jack says
Lindsay Graham doesn’t need “Christianity.”
He’s n touch with his “inner Trump.”
He knows that the word “reparations” is like waving a red flag in front of a bull to those ol boys down in S.C.
Zreebs says
Assuming Lindsay Graham goes to church, I’m pretty sure that church would not speak out on behalf of black farmers (and it therefore meets CG’s definition of a religion).
CG says
This comment about me is as odd and misplaced as anything james says on here.
CG says
Clyburn is perfectly free to say how and why he disagrees with Graham on a Congressional issue.
However, politicians of all stripes should be careful impugning the religion of someone they disagree with or somehow claiming they need to alter or adhere to certain religious values.
Calling Graham a bad Senator is fair game. Saying he is a bad Christian is not. If Marjorie Taylor Green claimed that a Jewish or Muslim or agnostic Democrat needed to “go to church” there would rightfully be condemnation of such a remark.
jamesb says
CG?
You ARE a Republican ….Correct?
Keith says
Good advice Zreebs.
