Props to Joe Biden for hanging in there on this….
Biden’s Chief of Staff says she WILL be part of the Biden admin, one way or another….
Washington Post Opinion by
My bad. That was Jeff Sessions. Again, 51 Republican senators (and one Democrat, Manchin) voted to confirm him as attorney general in 2017.
Surely Tanden went beyond the pale when she “liked” a tweet calling then-Secretary of State John F. Kerry a “traitor” and “Vietnam’s worst export,” and when she suggested Clinton supporters leave the country.
Except Mike Pompeo was the one who did those things. He won confirmation as secretary of state in 2018 with the votes of 50 Republicans and six Democrats, including Manchin.
But, really, the most appalling thing Tanden said was that Muslims have a “deficient theology” and they “stand condemned.”
Whoops. That wasn’t Tanden but Russell Vought. Just last year, 51 Republicans voted to confirm him as director of the Office of Management and Budget — the same position Tanden is up for now.
Now, all 50 Senate Republicans, assisted by Manchin, are on the cusp of sinking Tanden’s nomination because they object to her harsh tweets. Many have noted the hypocrisy, particularly when compared with the treatment of Richard Grenell, an online troll who won confirmation as ambassador to Germany with 50 Republican votes — and Manchin, natch — despite routinely disparaging women’s appearances.
But this isn’t just about double standards. What really must sting about Tanden’s tweets is not that they were mean, but that, for the most part, they were true….
CG says
This is a pointless fight for Biden to have and it is unlikely to end in a win.
Is their hypocrisy by many (but not all, Romney for example) Republicans when it comes to Tweets? Sure.
But now Democrats are exhibiting the same hypocrisy by saying Tweets do not matter.
Biden ran on being better than the Trump era and ushering in a higher standard.
They should stick with that and find someone else for the job.

Perceptions CG….
And if fo some reason she actually gets the job?
A BIG DAMN WIN for minorities in America
CG says
I don’t see what Neera Tanden has to do with a victory for minorities in America. Playing the race card at all costs cheapens the entire dialogue. An Indian-American woman is already VP. That trumps OMB. Nikki Haley’s role at the UN trumped OMB.
There are plenty of other people, including minority women, who could do the job Tanden was nominated for, and who have the professional background of not having antagonized specifically the very people they would need to work with.

The GOPer’s effort and against Tanden and Haaland, with Manchin in tow LOOKS REAL Racist on first glance…
At least Manchin has doubled back on Haaland…..
CG says
Hard to take you seriously.

U do NOT Have to…
The number of pieces on this have multiplied since a few days ago…
The view IS out there…

Props to Biden for hanging in there for here

Update…
Murkowski Will Meet with Neera Tanden on Monday
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will meet on Monday with Neera Tanden, the Biden administration’s pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget, CNN reports.
“Tanden’s confirmation is on the rocks after at least one Democratic and several moderate Republican senators announced their opposition to her appointment… Murkowski is seen as a potential swing vote who could save Tanden’s nomination, but the senator has not indicated how she would vote.”
(Klain and Biden have their fingers crossed…)

Murkowski Weighs Neera Tanden’s Fate
“Neera Tanden’s been in Senate purgatory for a week now as she and the Biden administration fight to convince Sen. Lisa Murkowski to back her bid to be White House budget chief. And Murkowski isn’t making any sudden moves,” Politico reports.
“The moderate Alaska Republican’s vote is ‘fluid’ at the moment, said Senate Republican Whip John Thune (R-SD). Murkowski met with Tanden on Monday and said she has more follow-up questions, and Thune said Murkowski also has bigger concerns about her home state of Alaska.”
CG says
If Tanden means that much to Biden and his people, then Murkowski ought to make sure to get something very big in return. Perhaps a flip-flop on the Keystone Pipeline.
jamesb says
???????
CG says
Murkowski has all the power. It’s very simple. It will be the same for Manchin and a handful of others for the next two years at least.
Does Tanden mean that much to them to give in to whatever she might demand in exchange for a yes vote? (i.e. the way political wheeling and dealing works.)
Probably not.

BREAKING: Joe Biden pulled Neera Tanden’s nomination to lead the Office of Management and Budget, marking his first defeat in a confirmation battle for a cabinet post
jamesb says
I’m gonna guess Murkoski told’m she wouldn’t vote for Tanden….
She’ll get a job ….
A few names are in the mix already…
Second hit for Progressives in the last few days….
Haaland i assume IS a lock fir Interior

The perils of Twitter and being an ass online…
Let it be a lesson for all moving forward.
jamesb says
Yea….
Just like Trump right CG?
Cept woman of color don’t get no slack?
CG says
Trump and her have both paid the consequence as they should.
This “woman of color” stuff is nonsense. A woman of color will get the job instead of her.
If Biden hires her for a non confirmation position, she will hopefully have learned to behave herself and her rhetoric. Biden did say on Day 1 that he would have a zero tolerance policy for that sort of misconduct and would fire anyone immediately.. (although it took a few extra days for TJ Ducklo to go)

Stating ur mind in America IS a ‘Right’ u have as long as you u do NOT advocate violence…
There IS A difference….
Trump could be seen to have dine the latter
She did not….
She joins Rice….
Another woman of color banned from higher office because they had the ‘ball’s’ to speak their minds…
Hopefully others will do the same…
This does NOT apply to Republicans
They are exempt
CG says
She had a long record of insulting the very people who were interviewing her for her job and had decision making responsibility for that job.
There is not a person in America who should expect to get a job, in any sector, after doing that.
Lots of people today, especially younger ones, need to learn how dangerous social media can be.
jamesb says
For me?
This had little to do with that and more to do with Biden’s early moves on conservation and energy CG?
The two critical senators have been sting by Biden moves on coal and oil…
Something that Biden will have slow down on going forward…
Even his halting of the second Canadian pipeline i can see maybe changed …
The AFL-CIO people are not happy with that….
This has little to do with words….

Looks like the hard sell for Shalanda Young to move up to head OMB may not work…
There was some grumbling that the campaign to have here replace Neera Tanden was TOO loud…We’ll see
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday gave its stamp of approval for Shalanda Young to be deputy director of the White House Office and Management and Budget.
The panel advanced Young’s nomination on a 7-6 vote along party lines. She must also receive approval from the Senate Budget Committee, with a vote scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, before getting a final confirmation vote in the full Senate.
Her nomination for the No. 2 budget post comes amid growing speculation that she may soon get the top position following the withdrawal of President Biden’s initial pick to lead the OMB, Neera Tanden….
…
Biden has yet to announce his pick, and other candidates such as former National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling are reportedly under consideration. The White House has said it will appoint Young as acting OMB director as an interim step if she’s confirmed for the deputy role….

What they’re saying: “I have accepted Neera Tanden’s request to withdraw her name from nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget,” Biden said in a statement.
“I have the utmost respect for her record of accomplishment, her experience and her counsel,” he added….
(Biden says he’ll give her a job in the admin)
