Lead House impeachment manager Rep. Jamie B. Raskin (D-Md.) officially requested that former president Donald Trump testify under oath about his involvement in the events that led to the Capitol riot Jan. 6.
The letter, which Raskin sent to Trump’s lawyers Thursday, comes two days after the president’s legal team filed papers with the Senate disputing many of the factual allegations in the House managers’ case. It invites Trump to testify either before or during his actual impeachment trial, which is set to begin in the Senate on Tuesday — with the recommendation he do so between Monday and Thursday, Feb. 11.
“If you decline this invitation, we reserve any and all rights, including the right to establish at trial that your refusal to testify supports a strong adverse inference regarding your actions (and inaction) on January 6, 2021,” Raskin warned in his letter, asking for a response by Friday at 5 p.m.
The House managers do not have independent authority to subpoena Trump if he denies the request….

We were talking about local Republican organizations censuring their locally elected officials. Not impeachment.

My point, local party organizations are behind these censures, not Congress. Local organizations that got these people elected in the first place. Of course they mean something.

One of former President Trump’s longtime allies in the Senate said Sunday that Trump would be remembered for his role in the events leading up to the deadly riot that overtook the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) indicated that he thought history would judge Trump’s responsibility for the siege that resulted in the deaths of several people, including one Capitol Police officer, but added that he did not think it was the Senate’s role to convict the former president for inciting the riot.
“Well, I mean, he’s going to have a place in history for all of this, but the point of the matter is that we’re in Congress. We’re not prosecutors. Impeachment was never meant to be a prosecution,” Graham said….
