Folks?…Democrats NEED Sen Manchin….

Some of us pointed THAT out against some Democrats , who want to leave the Democratic West Virginia US Senator out in the cold….

NOT gonna happen…

Biden, Schumer and Pelosi need the ‘blue dog’ Senator in a 50/50 US Senate…

And while the guy voted more with Trump than any other Democrat?

He’s still a Democrat…

Seems the Vice President did an Covid interview for a West Virginia media outlet (She did ones for other states whose Senator’s where fine with Harris) without giving Manchin a ‘heads up’….

That resulted in the Democratic senator throwing a shit-fit….

(Harris mentioned the coal industry , a major West Virginia industry that is a major target of those pushing climate change and Enviromental policy…Manchin chairs the US Senate Energy committee and will be imputing anything The Senate and Congress does on Energy…)

Seems someone from the Biden admin called the Senator to calm him down….

Yes….

Manchin appeared to express frustration over a television interview Harris recently did in his home state to promote the American Rescue Plan last week.
In an interview with CNN affiliate WSAZ in West Virginia, Manchin bristled at Harris’ interview with the same station that took place on Thursday, suggesting the administration did not give him a heads up.
“I saw it. I couldn’t believe it. No one called me,” he said. “We’re going to try to find a bipartisan pathway forward. I think we need to, but we need to work together. That’s not a way of working together, what was done.”
On Thursday, Harris promoted the $1.9 trillion Covid relief plan in interviews with television stations in West Virginia and Arizona — states that are home to Democrats whose votes could be critical to passing Covid relief, including Manchin in West Virginia and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, along with Sen. Mark Kelly, who will face re-election in the state in 2022, in Arizona.
In an interview with WSAZ Thursday, Harris said she and Biden believe it’s important to “work with a sense of urgency” to address the public health and economic crisis. The Vice President touted the package, saying it’s “about opening schools back up in a safe way, it’s about getting support for small businesses, getting relief for families.”
Harris also spoke about the economic situation of the West Virginia coal industry.
“All of those skilled workers who are in the coal industry and transferring those skills to what we need to do in terms of dealing with reclaiming abandoned land mines; what we need to do around plugging leaks from oil and gas wells; and, transferring those important skills to the work that has yet to be done that needs to get done,” she said.
[ White House press secretary Jen ] Psaki declined to say on Monday whether Harris’ interview was designed specifically to apply pressure on Manchin….

  1. Of course the Democrats need Manchin. Everybody knows and understands that and the position that Manchin is in.

    And the Democrats need each of the other 49 Democratic senators too. Everyone here understands that with the possible exception of James.

        • Only maybe when you include the fact that he is from West Virginia, and if he wasn’t elected, a Trumpist surely would be.

          Those who have a good memory may recall that I was a big fan of Manchin as Governor when he privatized the workers compensation market in West Virginia. Previously insurance carriers couldn’t sell Workers Compensation in West Virginia, and employers had to purchase it from the West Virginia government. I spent a lot of time in Charleston West Virginia a little over a decade ago and I attended a meeting with Manchin on the topic.

        Fact is Manchin’s in the drivers seat unless his vote can be replaced with a Repubkican fir the next two years at least….

        And like i said he also chsirs the Senate Energy committee to boot!🙄

          • Yeah James and his “told ya so” routine.

            He’s done that to me too.

            And like you ,Im left wondering exactly what is is he “told me.”

            Or better yet, he states the obvious and then acts as if he has pronounced some great conclusion .

            What’s funny is ,I think he really believes that he is “teaching” us something.

            • Yeah – James definitely see himself as a teacher in which we learn from him, but we just don’t want to admit it. Even his drawing of the dog at the lectern making a point shows that he sees himself as some form of instructor.

              I will give James credit for one thing. For the most part, he selects decent articles for discussion, even though 90% of the time I don’t read them. I get my news elsewhere. I just come here to discuss politics and look to see if you, Keith, CG, Scott or Dave made any recent comments. Due to the pandemic, I never socialize anymore – except online or by phone.

  4. Yes, the View has always been a major outlet for information coming from the Democratic Party Leadership.

    Harris gave Manchin what he wanted. Think about it and then watch how he votes.

    Even his Republican Governor wants to go big.

    Amusing how someone who has been consistently wrong finds the ability to say “I told you so.”

    I guess this is a welcomed distraction from the sedition of the Republican Party.

    • Yeah I saw that from Gov Justice. In West Virginia even Republicans aren’t fans of trickle down economics. The New Deal and unionization is what made the state Democratic.

      Republicans may have flipped it back with “God guns and gays (and coal)”.
      But to year a Republican governor say “if we waste some money we waste some money” in regards to helping people was pretty remarkable.

      • Justice was a Republican ,then became and was elected Governor as a Democrat, then became a Republican again and all this happened over a period of a few years.

        • Is he going to stand by that?

          Some of his past views have been conveniently tossed aside when the pressure on the left got heavy.

            Biden wants this bill…..

            But he’s not gonna push the $2,000

            Oh the immigration part i think isn’t gonna in the bill i think?

            • I am speaking of his life-long opposition to taxpayer funding of abortion until he literally flipped on that overnight.

              Also, the Crime Bill he authored, past trade agreements he supported, etc.

                You know, a man “reconsidering “ his views.

                • Mitt Romney’s views as a national candidate/figure have been consistent.

                  Some people change from pro-choice to Pro-Life and vice versa as matters of principle, etc.

                  The issue with Biden was different. He supported the Hyde Amendment his entire career. As a 2020 Presidential candidate, he stated publicly that he still strongly supported it.

                  Voices on the left complained and literally the next day, he said he changed his mind.

                      (See, I always knew you guys would pull out that card in defense of Biden at any turn… “well, you voted for him, nyah nyah nyah”) Quite predictable.

                      You know very well that I am right about Biden on the specific points I made but instead of defending it, turned to diversions and whataboutisms.

                    • I am in the furthest thing from a rage and that is after dealing with work matters this morning that would justify an epic ragefest. My blood pressure has dropped approximately 97 points from two hours ago and I am very serene as easily the most bipartisan participant here.

                  • Another issue that Biden has flip flopped on multiple times, depending on the political circumstances, is if a President should get to nominate a Supreme Court Justice during an election year.

  6. Assuming this group were successful in defeating Manchin or Synema in a primary,their candidate will almost certainly lose the GE in either of those two states.

    • Democrats now are basically the same place Republicans were around 2010-2014, with the exception of actually controlling everything.

      Biden will have to keep everyone together or there is going to be an unraveling.

        • Manchin IS an enigma for Democrat’s..

          But he IS needed unless some GOPer’s nump the Trump ship…

    • I’m not even sure Manchin will run again.

      In 2012, He won by around 24% of the vote.

      In 2018, he won by less than 3%.

      WV is very Republican now and Manchin is sort of an anomaly.

      He might look at the numbers and move on.

            • If Gov.Jim Justice decides he want to run for the Senate,he would beat Manchin ,probably fairly handily.

              In my view if Justice runs,Manchin won’t.

              • Justice is not that popular, not even among Republicans.

                There were polls showing Manchin could beat Justiec in a 2020 race for Governor but national Democrats begged Manchin to stay in the Senate.

                • Justice has actually done one of the best jobs in the country among Governors with the vaccine rollout.

                  I think he would be a formidable candidate in a very Republican state.
