There are less than half way thru the number of people they say they are investigating….
Of course the elected government official who pushed for this is on trial now, but is NOT expected to be found guilty of anything to do with his actions….
Prosecutors have charged more than 200 people with federal crimes in connection with the January 6 riot and insurrection at the Capitol, according to a CNN analysis of court records and Justice Department announcements.
The milestone comes mere hours before the start of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate, in which he is accused of inciting the riot and insurrection on January 6.
Trump’s attorneys are arguing he didn’t incite the riot that grew from his supporters’ march to the US Capitol, and his words to the crowd that day, to “fight like hell,” aren’t meant to be taken literally.
Yet at least two of the alleged rioters who have been detained argued this week in court that Trump is the reason for the violence–with one even calling the former President a so-called “unindicted co-conspirator,” according to a legal brief….

Well, the House Impeachment Managers, Democrats one and all, have made it very clear that they believe that former Vice President Mike Pence is a “patriot.”
Are the Democrats here willing to concur?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
A patriot who was also one of the most fervent apologists for and fawners over a traitor.
Of course (and I don’t mean this ironically or sarcastically) Mike Pence is also a patriot who showed some spine in refusing to be Donald Trump’s puppet in the chair of the Senate.
Scott P says
I agree with Dave’s’s assessment completely.

Not really…
Wrong place ….Wrong Time thing
BTW?
If it had come down to Pence and the Secret Service vs the crowd….
We’d have a completely different story

Ok
DSD gives the former Governor some props for finding his mind towards the end of the Trump acts of desperation
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Not his mind but his principles or his soul.

True THAT!

“Props” for simply doing what the Constitution required of him and what every VP before him had done?
You certainly have a low standard for “props.”

A better question would be “is Pence willing to admit to the world that he was Trump’s butt boy for five years, or that his boss was willing to have him killed by an angry mob in an attempt to overthrow a legitimate election?
Will Pence finally break with Trump and tell the country that Trump should be convicted in his impeachment trial?
True patriots are willing to stand up to tyrants right?
Where is Pence on all of this? The mob wanted his head too.
Zreebs says
pence could have invoked the 25th amendment, but chose not to do so – despite knowing first hand of Trump’s efforts to overthrow the government. He continuously and shamelessly defended Trump’s lies for years- including Trump’s lies about losing the election.
So Pence did something that every Vice President before him did and accepted the certification – and for that action alone (I can’t think of any other action) he deserves to be called a patriot? At best, that one action was patriotic. And if he failed to do it, it would have been seditionist.
If Trump publicly offers to testify against Trump, I will call him a patriot. But if he fails to do so, he is simply someone who put his own self interest over that of the country.
Keith says
I agree with Zreebs.
It’s amazing how low some people set the bar for Republicans, in this case participating in a ceremony that has gone on since the founding of the Nation. He gets props for that?
Now on to the excuses for why a majority of the Republican Senators cannot hold Trump accountable for his crimes.
Scott P says
I don’t give Pence props forgoing what he was obligated to do.
That his life was in danger for doing so speaks more to Trump’s guilt than Pence’s “patriotism”.
Think of it this way. People who hang out with and enable criminals can also be their victims.
Scott P says
For doing

I just want it pointed out that I have been very critical of Mike Pence over the years and the word “patriot” was not one that I myself used.
It was used several times yesterday though by the House Impeachment Managers.
So, the issue is are they wrong or are they just spouting BS that they do not actually believe during the trial? Is it ok to do the latter?
My Name Is Jack says
“Patriot” is a meaningless word in my book.
Everybody says they are a “patriot “..
Whoop de do!
Anyway in a trial ,and that’s what this is ,hyperbole flows freely.
Who cares?
CG says
You mean lawyers say broad, sweeping things they do not literally mean?
Wow.
My Name Is Jack says
Well since you knew that(as does everybody),
Then what is the point of this two day focus on the degree of Mike Pences “patriotism?”
CG says
even on blogs too I assume. Imagine that.
jamesb says
But I give the guy props for FINALLY standing up and doing the right thing which DID make the EC thing go smoothly….
jamesb says
It must have REALLY burned Pence when he heard about Trump sending the after him it would appear…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
After Joe Neguse spoke, I realized that Mike Pence should get some credit for following his sworn duty even when he and his family had come under immediate physical threat (gallows and all), inspired by the then-Commander-in-Chief .
Police and military in active or imminent combat also have to place their duty to their oaths above their own physical safety (and the happiness of their families).
But few of the millions of others who have taken that oath to the Constitution (including many here) have had to follow that oath against direct physical threat.
I had some rather anxious moments taking the 1980 Census in poorer and darker neighborhoods of Oakland and Berkeley, but nothing compared to the direct threats against the Speaaker and Vice President.

Medical examiner rules that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who was injured during the Jan. 6 insurrection, suffered a stroke and died from natural causes (via AP)
…
Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died from strokes a day after the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, the D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office ruled on Monday.
His death was the result of natural causes, not a homicide, and was not hastened by an injury, according to the report. Two men were charged last month with assaulting Sicknick with bear spray, although no homicide charges were filed. The latest report will likely make it more difficult for federal prosecutors to pursue such charges related to Sicknick’s death….
