Democrats are moving now to fast-track a Covid relief package.
- They aren’t doing anything Republicans haven’t done.
- Their plan is going to be popular with voters and no one is going to care how they got there.
“The Senate is going to move forward this week with the process for producing the next bold rescue package. …The Senate will vote to proceed on the budget resolution this afternoon,” Schumer said.
Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) filed a budget resolution on Monday that includes instructions for crafting a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package — a top-line figure in line with President Biden’s proposal.
The House is expected to pass the budget resolution on Wednesday. While the Senate faces tens of hours of debate, and a marathon session known as a vote-a-rama, Democrats are hoping to pass the resolution by the end of the week.
The decision to move forward comes after Biden met with a group of 10 GOP senators on Monday night, with Republicans offering a $618 billion proposal.
Both sides agreed to keep talking, but the White House signaled after the meeting that they are comfortable with moving forward with reconciliation and want a big package….

There was a lot of discussion about Joe Manchin. yesterday.
At various times ,Manchin has been unclear about whether he would support totally the President s initiative.
Manchin has now apparently signaled that he will support moving forward with the Biden program.

Well Jack…..
The WV DEMOCRATIC Senator NOW says he wants the Republicans ‘INVOLVED’????
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a pivotal centrist swing vote, announced Tuesday he will vote to advance a Democratic budget resolution, while warning that he wants leadership to work with Republicans on a bipartisan COVID-19 relief package.
“I will vote to move forward with the budget process because we must address the urgency of the COVID-19 crisis. But let me be clear — these are words I shared with President Biden — our focus must be on the COVID-19 crisis and Americans who have been most impacted by this pandemic,” Manchin said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon….

And there’s more….
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said Tuesday that he does not support increasing the minimum age to $15 an hour — a critical roadblock to including the proposal in the final coronavirus relief bill.
“No I’m not. I’m supportive of basically having something that’s responsible and reasonable,” Manchin told The Hill, asked if he is supportive of a $15 per hour minimum wage.
Manchin added that for West Virginia, his home state, that would be $11 per hour, and adjusted to inflation….

The next check will probably N OT be for $2,000….But for $1,400…
Biden has pushed HARD for the $15 per hour….
I wonder if any of the 10 GOPer’s would cross the aisle to support the bill in the Senate cancelling out Manchin’s leverage?

Senate Democrats Pass Budget Resolution
The Senate passsed the Democrats’ budget resolution, 50 to 49, paving the way to pass President Joe Biden’s coronavirus relief package using reconciliation.
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) was absent so Vice President Kamala Harris did not need to break the tie.

I’d say compromise on national minimum wage, give Manchin 11 dollars this year, then 12 next year and so on until you reach 15. Allows the poorer states to absorb the increase in wages over time.

Could work….

That’s a pretty good idea.

— 2009: Five of the most important policy wonks in the White House right now — Klain, BRIAN DEESE, JEFF ZIENTS, BRUCE REE, and JAKE SULLIVAN — all served in the early Obama administration. The main lesson from the fraught journey of the stimulus and Obamacare was that BARACK OBAMA wasted time in negotiations with Republicans who were never going to get to yes. “Ron has this whole thing: ‘Remember how they rat-f—ed us on the ACA!’” the adviser said…..

“If it’s $1.9 trillion, so be it.” Sen. Joe Manchin, a centrist Democrat from West Virginia, said he would support the price tag for President Biden’s coronavirus-relief package.
