Sen. Machin announcing he’s against any changes in the filibuster rule in the chamber gave McConnell all he really wanted….
After weeks of negotiations, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have come to terms on how to run a 50-50 Senate. Democrats hold the tiebreaking vote with Vice President Harris.
“I am happy to report this morning that the leadership of both parties have finalized the organizing resolution for the Senate. We will pass the organizing resolution promptly today,” Schumer said in remarks on the Senate floor.
The organizing resolution puts Democrats in control of the committees, enabling them to move ahead on Biden’s agenda and nominees, most notably his Cabinet and his judicial choices. Democrats secured control of the Senate after winning two runoff elections in Georgia on Jan. 5 and Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, making Harris the tiebreaking vote in the chamber.
“I’m confident our members are ready to hit the ground running on the most important issues that face our country,” Schumer added. “Senate Democrats are not going to waste any time taking on the biggest challenges facing our country and our planet.”….
