Former President Donald Trump has lost his top impeachment lawyer just days before his trial is to begin, a person familiar with his legal strategy and two attorneys close to the team confirmed on Saturday night.
Butch Bowers, a South Carolina lawyer who was reportedly set to play a major role in the Senate’s trial of the former president, is now no longer with the team. Deborah Barbier, another South Carolina lawyer, won’t be either. The person described it as a “mutual decision” and said new names will be announced shortly.
The decision by Bowers and Barbier to not join the team raised immediate questions, both about what compelled them to part ways and who actually will play the role of lawyer to Trump when the impeachment trial starts in early February.
Trump has had difficulty finding legal help for his second impeachment, with some of the lawyers who worked on his first trial saying they wouldn’t do the same this go around….

Apparently, the lawyers want to argue something that is arguable (although it could lead to terrible consequences): that you can’t convict someone at impeachment after he or she has left office.
The obsessive lunatic who used to run this country still believes that he won re-election last November, and wants his counsel to make a losing (or non-starter) argument that the general election was rigged.

The new legal team members were announced following multiple reports that Butch Bowers, the former lead attorney expected to defend Trump, left the defense team. Two attorneys close to the situation told Politico about the South Carolina lawyer’s departure from Trump’s team.
Reports from The Associated Press and CNN also indicated four other members also departed the team, including Deborah Barbier, Josh Howard, Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris.
The multiple exits came as the attorneys wanted to focus on the legality of impeachment, while the former president wanted to continue promoting unfounded claims about widespread election fraud leading to his loss, according to CNN….

I may agree with Jack, it wouldn’t shock me if Trump didn’t show up with a defense, basically saying it is a farce and I won’t even give you the time of day by presenting an argument…that is such a crazy idea, it might be something he may do if the right person is pushing it to him…Make the Democrats looks stupid by not even showing up to the party (the risks for that gambit are huge) but might be worth a try as it would be unprecedented and this guy likes to move in unprecedented ways.

The GOP is losing voters at a remarkable rate. In The week after the riot, the Colorado GOP lost one half of one percent of its voters. That is an astounding number for a week in January.
Most of these Republicans are moving to unaffiliated. some have moved to Democrats, but a lot have also moved to third parties such as the Constitution Party Or the Libertarians. This is happening over much of the country.
Right now, both the Trump supporters and the “conservatives” (I used that word to please CG) feel very disappointed with the GOP. The Trump supporters feel that the GOP abandoned Trump and the “conservatives” know that not supporting Trump now gets you censured.
So both Trump supporters an “conservatives” are leaving the GOP. It might be impossible to reunite these two factions. If someone is censured, how does that person or his supporters embrace the party again? And how do Trump supporters trust McConell again? (Ignoring the obvious question of how anyone could have trusted McConnell in the first place).
