Cruz says some people want him arrested for his stunt in the US Senate to contest the Electoral vote….
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Sunday called for critics of his challenge to the results of the presidential election to “tone down the rhetoric.”
“I think everyone needs to calm down,” Cruz, who on Saturday led a group of 11 GOP senators who said they would challenge the results of the presidential election in several states, said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“I think we need to tone down the rhetoric. This is already a volatile situation. It’s like a tinderbox and throwing lit matches into it,” Cruz said.
Cruz criticized “hyperbole” and “angry language” in response to his statement Saturday, accusing Democrats of “urging that I should be arrested and tried for sedition and treason.”
“That’s not helpful … at a time when we’re pitted against each other. Just relax, and let’s do our jobs,” he said. “We have a responsibility to follow the law.”
Cruz and the other GOP senators have come under criticism for saying they would challenge the results, including from other Republicans. GOP Sens. Ben Sasse (Neb.) and Mitt Romney (Utah) have both said political ambition is outweighing principle in the challenges…

Rep. Louie Gohmert Backpedals On ‘Be Violent’ Comments After Election Lawsuit Loss

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) issued a statement Saturday backpedaling on his controversial comments indicating that street violence is the only recourse in the wake of his lawsuit loss to overturn the results of the democratic presidential election.
Gohmert made the remarks about violence Friday on the far-right news channel Newsmax. He spoke after U.S. District Judge Jeremy Kernodle shot down his court case that argued Vice President Mike Pence has the power to unilaterally reappoint Donald Trump as president by selectively choosing the electoral votes he’ll recognize, and replacing the others with votes for Trump.
The judge ruled Gohmert had no standing to sue.
“Bottom line is, the court is saying, ‘We’re not going to touch this, you have no remedy,’” said Gohmert. “Basically, in effect, the ruling would be that you got to go to the streets and be as violent as antifa and BLM [Black Lives Matter].”
After getting roundly slammed for the comments Saturday, Gohmert tweeted: “I have not encouraged and unequivocally do not advocate for violence.” He insisted he supported the “example of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. of peaceful protest.”
Gohmert’s post flatly contradicted his statement on Newsmax, which he still had up on his Twitter account as of Saturday night.
It’s also inconsistent with Gohmert’s previous comments. At a MAGA march near the White House in November, the Texas congressman urged Trump supporters to consider “revolution” like the American Revolution and the Egyptian uprising seven years ago to overturn the results of the U.S. presidential election. “This was a cheated election and we can’t let it stand,” Gohmert railed.
Gohmert’s Newsmax comments about street violence come at a particularly dangerous time. Republican representatives and senators are maneuvering to challenge the presidential election results on Jan. 6 amid a planned “Wild Protest” that day featuring the white nationalist Proud Boys, linked to several stabbings at the last protest, and other right-wing groups. Extremist chat forums and other online posts indicate the protesters are “workshopping ways to smuggle guns” into the District of Columbia, The Washington Post has reported.
Trump has repeatedly encouraged his supporters to turn out for the protest, promising it will “be wild.”
Gohmert’s comments followed a Friday rant by Trump ally L. Lin Wood that argued Pence should be executed for treason by firing squad for denying Trump a second term.
Democratic Party attorney Mark Elias said Saturday that Gohmert’s Newsmax comments should trigger an ethics investigation and sanctions.
Kristen Clarke, president of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, lashed Gohmert’s “brazen call” for street violence after his “bizarre” case was rejected.
Gohmert’s attempted walk back wasn’t any more popular: …

Trump advisor Peter Navarro falsely claimed that Biden’s inauguration could be delayed, contradicting the Constitution

In a Saturday appearance on Fox News, White House trade advisor Peter Navarro falsely claimed that President-elect Joe Biden’s January 20 inauguration could be postponed.
This is wrong: The Twentieth Amendment of the US Constitution states clearly that after an election cycle, the new president must be inaugurated on January 20.
Navarro also said that he was preparing to publish a new report containing so-called evidence that the election was stolen from President Donald Trump, titled “The Art of the Steal.”
The report is unlikely going to change anything. Since Election Day, Trump and his allies have failed to produce credible evidence that the election was stolen from them.
On January 6, Congress will hold a joint session, chaired by Vice President Mike Pence, to certify the Electoral College votes that confirmed Biden’s victory. A group of GOP lawmakers has vowed to oppose it.
Peter Navarro, a trade advisor to President Donald Trump, has falsely claimed that President-elect Joe Biden’s January 20 inauguration can be postponed – contradicting the Constitution itself.
In a Saturday appearance on Fox News show “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” Navarro suggested that Vice President Mike Pence order an investigation into the 2020 election results, and Biden’s inauguration could be postponed.
“I would not be surprised to see a special counsel on this,” Navarro told Pirro, referring to the election results. “And Vice President Pence, he has the authority to give that 10-day window to do what needs to get done. And I cannot imagine, when he goes through the facts, he won’t vote the right way on that.”
