It Increasingly appears that new US Senate Minority Leader MCConnell COULD vote to convict Donald Trump of helping an ‘insurrection’ as the US House indictment charges….
He probably has a few other Republicans thinking the same thing…
But some of the die hard Trump supporting GOP lawmakers are trying to stop guy who carried the water for the former President, but seems to now admit that he was and IS NOT happy with the big guy, who he doesn’t have to deal with anymore….
An open political war could break out among Republicans in the US Senate as some still support ex-President Trump and others might want to convict him of a House charge to bar him from running for any Federal office again….

I still don’t see near the votes to convict.
Maybe 56-57 at best.

More pressure on McConnell, who was just re-elected to NOT vote to convict Trump of ‘insurrection ‘….

The only thing we have seen that indicates any diminution in Republican support for Trump are some statements(mostly in the immediate aftermath of the Trumpite Thugs terrorist attack on the Capitol) and some polls indicating some slippage in his support among Republican voters.
The organized Republicans,i e, Republican officials, committees ,media etc.are maintaining firm support of him.
