Support for Trump among Republicans is still there…
But it has dropped…..
A majority of voters say President Trump should be impeached and removed from office over his role in inciting a crowd that overran the U.S. Capitol, according to a new poll.
The Morning Consult-Politico survey found that 53 percent support the House impeachment of Trump and 54 percent say the Senate should convict him and remove him from office.
Support for impeachment is deeply divided along partisan lines, with nearly 90 percent of Democrats supporting it and about 80 percent of Republicans opposing. Among independents, 47 percent support impeachment and removal, compared to 38 percent who oppose it and 15 percent who have no opinion….
…
Forty-two percent of Republicans surveyed said they’d vote for Trump if the GOP presidential primary was held today, down from 54 percent in the same survey from late November.
Seventy-seven percent of Republicans approve of the job Trump is doing, down 8 points since the riot.
The Morning Consult-Politico poll of 1,996 registered voters was conducted from Jan. 8 to Jan. 11 and has a 2 percentage point margin of error….

I mentioned the other day that Trumps support has slipped.
It’s going to have to fall a lot more ,however, for most Republican politicians to offer more than vague and subtle criticism of him.
Those that offer more than that can count on feeling the wrath of his supporters which as this poll clearly shows still represent the overwhelming number of those who call themselves Republicans.

However, let’s be very clear, despite this seditious attack on our seat of government by supporters oh the present President, the overwhelming majority of Republicans of Republicans in this country still support him.
No amount of “whataboutisms,” wild speculation that we Democrats “really” want this Animal to continue to lead the other party ,or comparing an attack by avowed members of that party upon the seat of our government and it’s lawfully elected representatives to the actions of some anarchists in Portland as some kind of moral equivalence can gloss over that central fact.
The Republican Party on January 13,2021 Still Overwhelmingly supports Donald J Trump.
End of story.

Totally agree Jack.
Now it seems the so called organizers of this invasion of the Capitol are telling investigators that Republican Members were part of the planning process.
They are naming names.
But, but Maxine Waters.

I agree. And I’m tired of being told the caravan will get off the Trump highway at the next exit. A couple stragglers have. The rest keep on going. So they all deserve to go over the cliff like uglier versions of Thelma and Louise.

Politico: “As the Republican Party begins to reckon with the fallout from the deadly insurrection, it’s being forced to confront a disquieting truth: the lie that ultimately led to the violence — that the election was stolen from President Donald Trump — drew far-reaching support from the party’s governing class at every level, extending far beyond Congress and reaching deep into America’s statehouses.”
“One week after the deadly insurrection and the certification of Joe Biden’s victory, institutionalist Republicans are desperate to move the party past the events of last week. But in statehouses across the country, the prospect of a clean break has never seemed more remote.”

Donald J. Trump has been re-Impeached and Michael J. Madigan has been replaced as Speaker of the Illinois House.
Both will be viewed by history with the derision deserved.

Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC)
“Under the strict definition of the law, I don’t know if the President’s speech last Wednesday morning amounted to incitement of a riot, but any reasonable person could see the potential for violence.”
“Once the violence began, when the Capitol was under siege, when the Capitol Police were being beaten and killed, and when the Vice President and the Congress were being locked down, the President was watching and tweeted about the Vice President’s lack of courage.”
“For hours while the riot continued, the President communicated only on Twitter and offered only weak requests for restraint.”
“I was on the floor of the House of Representatives when the rioters were beating on the door with tear gas, zip tie restraints, and pipe bombs in their possession. It is only by the grace of God and the blood of the Capitol Police that the death toll was not much, much higher.”
“It has been a week since so many were injured, the United States Capitol was ransacked, and six people were killed, including two police officers. Yet, the President has not addressed the nation to ask for calm. He has not visited the injured and grieving. He has not offered condolences. Yesterday in a press briefing at the border, he said his comments were ‘perfectly appropriate.’”
“I have backed this President through thick and thin for four years. I campaigned for him and voted for him twice. But, this utter failure is inexcusable.”
It’s never too late to do the right thing, of course.
