The other guy was just below 40% going out the door to Florida….
President Biden is almost 20% higher …
Also?
Much higher than the other guys numbers four years ago…
We won’t miss the chaos factor we suffered thru for FOUR years….
We need this change….
In his first week in the Oval Office, Biden yielded high approval ratings for his response to the coronavirus (69%) and confidence in his ability to unify the country (57%). The new poll was conducted by Ipsos in partnership with ABC News using Ipsos’ Knowledge Panel.
Biden’s early honeymoon period is a sharp departure from the underwhelming initial response former President Donald Trump received four years ago.
In a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, Biden’s score for handling the transition landed at 67%, nearly 30 points higher than his predecessor just before his inauguration.
Trump’s lackluster marks broke with the pattern for newly elected presidents, who usually enjoy high approval ratings in their first months in office.
For Biden, starting his tenure as commander-in-chief in a honeymoon period might afford him more room to maneuver on policy, particularly on his administration’s colossal challenge: COVID-19.
The more than two-thirds of Americans who approve of his leadership on the coronavirus includes 40% of Republicans — a notably high level of support from across the aisle a year into the pandemic. An overwhelming 97% of Democrats and 70% of independents also back Biden’s management of the crisis in his early days in office….

This comment reminded me of your previous obsession with Hillary Clinton’s pant suits.
I guess I just don’t understand why Biden’s suit selection generates interest on our part?
CG says
Oh give me a break. If a comment does not interest you Zreebs, then do not attempt to respond like a busybody.
Zreebs says
The one thing about that question that I find interesting is that it interests you. But you can be as amused with my answer as I was with your question.
There was a typo from my original post. I meant to say “your”, not “our” in the second to the last word.
CG says
I do not know what thread DSD made the comment, but I do not agree that McCarthy or Nixon retained a lot of loyalty after their downfall. McCarthy, in particular, was treated as a pariah, and died shortly after a broken man.
Nixon, who also almost died months after his resignation, took years to rehabilitate his image, and he never again attended a convention or any sort of party event.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Years afterwards, I’m pretty sure (although I’d have to consult some rather ancient, hard-to-find polls) that something on the order of 20% of Republican voters — not officials or candidates — felt that both men were somehow more right than wrong (e.g. “someone had to fight a very real Communist threat and [McCarthy or Nixon] had the right idea, even if some of his methods were mistaken)”; and somehow lynched for their good intentions by vindictive radical Democrats who’d always hated them for nefarious reasons (“they couldn’t stand someone who exposed the weakness and failures of the former Democrat administrations”).
Plus the universal mantra that the Democrats were even more crooked and dangerous (certainly less patriotic) than Nixon or McCarthy.

Even “reactionary” is probably too kind a label.

Representatives Greene and Boebert are the toasts of conservative media.
Zreebs says
Dave, What label do you recommend for Green? In what ways is she not conservative?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Killing leaders of your opposition is not, IMHO, a conservative position as I understand conservatism.
Right-wing? yes.
Reactionary? yes.
Veering on neo-Fascism? certainly arguable, depending on one’s definition of fascism and neofascism.
Conservatism has slightly different meanings in the U.S., the British Commonwealth and Continental Europe, but I’ve heard some British and American conservatives describe it as wishing to continue and strengthen the soundest institutions of society and existing social relations against ill-conceived and dangerous changes, favouring a gradual and “natural” evolution of benign trends (e.g. wider education, lessening poverty) as opposed to sudden, radical and expensive reforms — combined sometimes with a readiness to execute radical changes of their own (e.g. decolonisation, Bismarck’s and Teddy Roosevelt’s social plans) when necessary to preserve and advance their country and its other institutions. (Sorry this is so incoherent and in places inconsistent.)

I’ll accept “right wing” as a better word than “conservative “ to describe Green. I don’t really like “fascist” – although there are some similarities. Fascism believed that workers should work collectively for the state – which is not something I would imagine that Green believes. Maybe “neofascist” is acceptable? Not sure.
The word “conservative” has changed dramatically in my lifetime – so much so it is now a meaningless word. The word for the most part has a positive connotation. Ironically, when someone says “He is conservative with his spending habits” they imply that a person is wise and perhaps even frugal in how he spends money. Yet a person who considers themselves politically conservative almost always supported the “borrow and spend” policies of Reagan, GWB, and Trump. If anything, modern day “conservatives” believe that the biggest component of the budget (defense) should be expanded, and very few “conservatives” care the least about the deficit – unless the Democrats are in office. As such, Green seems to deserve the right to call herself a conservative.
And what person who identifies as “‘conservative” genuinely wants to strengthen the soundest institutions of our society”? Like what? democracy? Strengthening the soundest institutions of our society is now a now a value that is almost exclusively liberal. And what conservative is genuinely against “ill conceived and dangerous changes”? Like what? Making it easier to buy guns? Record setting budget deficits? That definition of a conservative (while once maybe true) is long, long, gone.
My Name Is Jack says
I agree that given the current accepted definition of “conservative,” Green certainly qualifies.

Judges Retire So Biden Can Replace Them
At least five federal judges with lifetime appointments who have announced plans to retire or semi-retire since last Wednesday, the day Donald Trump left the White House, the HuffPost reports.
That’s after eight judges had already announced their plans to step down since Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

Romney continues to be the only consistent voice of opposition in the GOP:
https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2021/01/30/utah-sen-mitt-romney/
Zreebs says
There might be room for a center-right third party in some states – such as Utah and Alaska. In these states, candidates like Romney, huntsman, Murkowski and McMullen would likely win in a 3-way race. If done effectively, over time (a long time) this new party could replace the GOP nationally.
I think that Romney can still be re-elected in Utah, but most “conservatives” (I chose that word to make CG happy) who criticize Trump won’t win again. And if something is not done, the GOP will unconditionally surrender to the Trump wing. Everyone should be able to see where the GOP is currently headed, and I don’t see anything stopping that runaway train.
This might be the right time for a center-right party in some states.
jamesb says
Not on a national level….

No one in their right mind would bet money against the Trump wing holding complete control over the GOP.

James sees “Civil Wars” all over the place.
He’s been claiming there is a “ Civil War” in the Democratic Party for months.
Apparently,in his mind, when some people in a party disagree? That constitutes a “Civil War”
And ,oh yes, off topic, but last night he said something to the effect that I “predicted” BP would go bankrupt due to their horrid negligence in the Deepwater Horizon matter?Thats not true. What I said was I wished they would.Unfortunately they didn’t.They have payed out billions and billions though and have never really recovered from that black eyed,so that’s a good thing.
Of course we know what he said.Three days after one of the worst environmental disasters in history,”let’s move on.”

jamesb says
Guerrilla wars ARE WARS…
And you guys ARE right and EVERYBODY else calling this a CIVIL war internal within the Grand ole Party are wrong….

Democratic Socialist Dave says
It’s not a civil war; it’s a death-struggle with the Standard Establishment G.O.P. playing the hopeless rôle of the Maccabees, the saving remnant, or the Five Civilized Tribes.
They have no choice but to fight, but everything I’ve read or seen on TV so far indicates that resistance to the Red Hat madness is almost certainly futile.
No doubt even the likes of Liz Cheney will have to consider leaping across the chasm to the blue side, just as lifelong, multi-generational Southern Democrats/Dixiecrats jumped from the party of Calhoun and Jackson for that of Lincoln, Grant and Frederick Douglass.
My Name Is Jack says
That’s a little different though.
Cheney is a conservative,in fact very conservative.
Moving to the Democratic Party would essentially require a whole political makeover.
In contrast the Southern Democrats moving to the Republicans required no such makeover for the most part .They were already conservatives ..Many of them voted in Congress more with the Republicans than the other Democrats anyway. The Republican/Southern Democrat coalition in Congress was well known in the 50s and into the Eighties.Remember in Reagan’s years the so called “Boll Weevils “ aka the Conservative Democratic Forum?
So your comparison , while understandable of Liz Cheney’s political problem,is not quite apt.
