Georgia’s top election official on Tuesday certified Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff as the winners of two closely watched Senate runoffs, affirming a pair of Democratic victories that will effectively hand the party control of the upper chamber.
The certification of the runoff results by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) comes as Democrats prepare to take power in Washington. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are slated to be sworn in Wednesday.
Warnock ousted Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) in a hotly contested runoff election on Jan. 6, while Ossoff defeated former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) in a simultaneous contest….

David Perdue, the former Republican senator from Georgia who lost one of two runoffs in the state last month, filed paperwork to run again in 2022 but has not yet made a final decision on whether to launch another campaign, according to two advisers.
Perdue lost his bid for a second term to now-Sen. Jon Ossoff in January after failing to get a majority of the vote in November. Ossoff’s victory came alongside fellow Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, who defeated appointed GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a special election. But Warnock has to run again in 2022 for a full term, and Perdue is looking seriously at challenging him…

Georgia’s Republican lieutenant governor announced on Sunday that he will not challenge Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) for one of the state’s Senate seats next year.
Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he would not seek to recapture the seat for Republicans while distancing himself from the “Trump wing” of the GOP.
“My family and I have talked about it, and we’re not going to run for the U.S. Senate seat. We’re going to stay focused on being the lieutenant governor here in Georgia, and we are going to focus hard on trying to rebuild this party and refocus GOP 2.0,” he told host Chuck Todd.
“Donald Trump’s divisive tone and strategy is unwinnable in forward-looking elections. We need real leadership,” he added….
