The channels aren’t gonna call this but the twitter world HAS….
Joe Biden has to be dancing around the room….
Chuck Schumer has to be euphoric!
Mitch McConnell has to be cursing Donald Trump out….
The ladies over at MSNBC are laughing….
And Georgia is turning from Red to Purple…

Warnock’s victory is pretty clearly going to wind up outside of Georgia’s 0.5% recount threshold. #GASEN

Rev Warnock …..
He’ll be the second Black Senator from the South…
He’ll have to run again in 2 years….
He’ll be running when Stacy Abrams will be running for Governor…

We must not only look at the Black vote & the white vote in Georgia but also the poor & low-wealth vote and particularly where white voters have joined Black voters to vote for candidates that would fight for them to have higher wages, health care, etc.
CG says
One can look at the recent political history of Georgia and be pretty sure that Warnock got just about every white Democrat vote possible.
The same does not seem to be able to be said of Ossoff and African-American Democrats.
Maybe some people might have thought he was too young for the job
Zreebs says
I had predicted that Warnock had a slightly better chance to win than Ossoff, but not just because of the voting habits of black voters. I thought that Loeffler came across as more extreme than Purdue, less southern, and I thought that Ossoff ran a less effective campaign than Warnock.
Keith says
I agree Zreebs but think Kelly may have also lost the votes of diehard Collins voters who voted Perdue but not for her. They may have thought they were setting up Collins for a comeback against the Reverend on the two year term.
My Name Is Jack says
If Ossoff hangs on for a victory, then my prediction of yesterday was wrong.
I will be glad to be wrong!
Zreebs says
You predicted a toss up, so I would not consider you wrong.
jamesb says
Loeffler went from a moderate GOPer to a Trumper…..
It didn’t work….
Zreebs says
In what ways was Loeffler a moderate?
Zreebs says
Loeffler described herself as the most conservative member of the Senate. That is not usually something a “moderate” would say – especially when you consider how radical the Republicans in the Senate are.
jamesb says
….For Ms. Loeffler, a political newcomer, the journey has meant breaking with old allies, picking new fights and struggling to explain away a life before politics when she occasionally gave money to Democrats, like former Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, and rubbed elbows with Stacey Abrams, the Democrat who ran for Georgia governor in 2018. ….

It’s only like the 12th most important lesson from this election cycle, but parties should be more careful about who they appoint to the Senate when there’s a vacancy. Appointing McSally after she’d just lost wasn’t wise. Same with Loeffler, who’d never won an election before.
CG says
She was the “establishment” choice when picked to fill the vacancy while the Trumpists preferred Doug Collins.
Because of Collins, she made the choice to become as Trumpy as possible. Ultimately, her downfall. Karma.
CG says
In the crowded 2014 GOP primary in Georgia, David Perdue was the one non-office holder and considered the most “moderate” of all the candidates.
jamesb says
So they had BOTH as actual moderates?
Again….
Turning to Trump screwed ALL of the Republicans in Georgia…
ALL of them...
Zreebs says
It is not uncommon for business people (especially CEOs) to contribute to both parties. Doing so is just being astute from a business perspective. I agree that conservatives likely held that against Loeffler, but that doesn’t mean she was not exceedingly conservative.

It Appears Democrats Have Won Control of the Senate
As of this post, there is still no official projection in either U.S. Senate runoff in Georgia, but the New York Times’s needle is very confident that both Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will win.
It’s not official but it’s very hard to see a path for either Republican short of a major tabulation error.
That would mean the U.S. Senate will be comprised of 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris breaking any ties.
It’s an unbelievably dramatic end to the 2020 election cycle.
CG says
Nonetheless, still a very narrowly divided Senate.
Senators like Romney, Manchin, Collins, and Murkowski will have increased importance.
Manchin has already pledged that he will oppose getting rid of the filibuster or attempting to pack the Court.
CG says
Maybe add Mark Kelly to that list as well.
jamesb says
Biden is NOT gonna support any radical things in the Senate….
jamesb says
Democrats are gonna be looking over their shoulders at 2010 and 2020 beatdown House votes….
We’re talking about Joe Biden….
He’ll HAVE TO cool the Left’s heels….
But Schumer is NOT McConnell….
But some things still need 60 US Senate votes and McConnell will still be Majority leader for 2 weeks….
CG says
That will make some unhappy…
But I guess I will be getting that $2000 check now.
jamesb says
Ok guys….
CG?
I’m STILL as happy as I was November 5th!….
Later!
Trump just keeps seeing things go AWAY from him….
CG says
If Sally Yates gets picked for AG, you need to shut down the blog for a week and go to Vegas.

CG says
Trump screwed every Republican in America, not just Georgia.
They have the White House, House, and Senate *all* due to Trump, and Trump alone.
This will lead to policies that these Republicans (including people like me) are not going to like. (and Biden, whom I voted for, broke a promise and has not one single person in his Administration who was a Republican even before Trump) Unlike most others though, I knew this about Trump on Day 1 and never yielded from that position. I voted against him twice, supported his Impeachment and conviction, and wished for him to resign, right from the start.
So, a lot of *other* Republicans need to look in the mirror and decide if they even want to help get out of the mess they helped create.

I am so happy that Jimmy Carter is with us to see this result and sad John Lewis isn’t.
Lewis had a direct and strong connection to both candidates and this night is a direct result of his and Georgia’s next Governor work.
What an incredible evening, I also want to thank both Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell for their efforts in making this a reality.
Tomorrow’s shit show attempt by the Republican Party to deny the rightful winner of the Presidency will much easier to watch with this result. They will do terrible lasting damage to their brand tomorrow and I’ll enjoy the spectacle.
It will be a wonderful birthday present.

I don’t think Romney will be a swing vote as much as Manchin, Kelly, King, Murkowski or Collins. I wonder why CG listed him first? I respect Romney more than I did two years ago, but I don’t see him as key of a player as the others I mentioned.
This win will enable Biden to get most of his nominees and likely a Supreme Court justice to replace Breyer – who I suspect will retire this year. Not sure what else Biden will get passed, other than some COVID-19 legislation and budget matters that basicly keep the country running.
jamesb says
Happy Birthday Keith!

Ossoff is 16,000 votes up OVER Perdue….
Could have a recount but ya don’t lose 16 thousand votes in recounts although someone said last night Trump gained a thousand or so someplace in a recount….

Ossoff’s margin is over 35,000 vote…
Neither is in auto recount territory…
