Huh?
This one IS from outside the box….
Cuomo served in Bill Clinton admin as the Housing and Urban Affairs Sec…
He was also the New York State Attorney General….
He gets high marks from some for managing the New York virus effort…
Cuomo HAS said he would NOT serve in a Biden admin….
(The NY Governor and Biden have worked togther during the Obama admin)
(Things MUST be REALLY unsettled for Biden about this spot…Doug Jones had been floated as the lead for the job after Sally Yates was on top of the list…Now Cuomo?)
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is one of several contenders under consideration by President-elect Joe Biden for the role of attorney general, a person with knowledge of the search process said Friday.
The other three contenders at the moment include outgoing Alabama Sen. Doug Jones, federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, said the person, who cautioned that no decision had been reached and no announcement was expected imminently.
The person was not authorized to discuss the search process by name and spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press….
…
Cuomo has been asked in recent weeks about his interest in the attorney general spot. Just this week, he said in a public radio interview in New York, “I have no intention to run for president or vice president, or go to the administration.” But he said the attorney general job “is really critical, especially now.”…

I don’t take this very seriously.
jamesb says
Me neither….
But he WOULD be a good choice for Biden who would NOT have to worry about his son being indicted…
Zreebs says
Hunter Biden should not receive any special treatment from Joe, nor should he be prosecuted because he is Joe’s son. We should be able to agree on that.
jamesb says
Agreed CG….
ANYBODY think the AG pick is gonna indict Joe Biden’s son?
Again…
Jack is spot on with this…
Down the road when the dust settles he’s gonna get a bill from the IRS , which will be paid promptly just like what is gonna come to Donald Trump and his family…
Case will be closed…
Keith says
Jack is right. The career folks will continue to run the justice Department while Biden changes the political leadership.
Once again, a civics class would have come in handy.
I remember the days of “silliness” four years ago when we were told the Obama people would continue to run the government after Trump was sworn in when it was the career people, at great personal professional peril, who did so and still are.
Lots of ridiculous Republican geography was played here yesterday, probably from boredom, regarding Cabinet appointments. It reminded me of the day we were told Governor Reeves of Mississippi was doing a great job on COVID. Well Mississippi has just run out of ICU beds. Making Reeves a typical incompetent Republican official that shouldn’t still hold office, let alone an appointment to a higher Federal job.
The idea that somehow bipartisanship will break out after two thirds of the Republicans in the House and 17 Republican State Attorney Generals tried to subvert the will of millions of voters is more than naive — it’s denial.
These typical Republicans, Trump toadies, run the Republican Party and are willing to commit treason to keep their Great White Hope in power.
But hey, perhaps Biden should put one of them in his Cabinet.
We are facing one of our greatest threats to Democracy in the Nation’s history and people want to talk about Hunter Biden.
Silliness!
jamesb says
I am NOT disagreeing that most of the staff are good and fine people that do their jobs…
They are to be commended….
But we have seen some quit or shown the door for not being loyal to the bosses political agenda…
That is my point…
jamesb says
Jones or Yates will bring some who are loyal to their POV….
It’s how things get done…
I’m sure even where u work Jack…
It’s management 101….
My Name Is Jack says
That’s a lie
On the other thread when I pointed out exactly what you’re “commending” them for you said I was “naive.”
jamesb says
I agree Keith
Biden putting a GOPer in a top position is just plain stupid and a counter productive waste …
Keith says
James, I don’t care if you agree with me because later today you will, as you continue to type, disagree and promote bipartisanship. That’s what you do here. You don’t participate in meaningful conversations, you engage in an endless stream of nonsense.
One of the greatest threats to Democracy in our history sits in the White House and he’s enabled by an entire political party and you pretend he’s just going away. If that’s not naive what is?
jamesb says
Donald Trump in my mind has do about EVERYTHING to prove that the American system of government when tested works just fine….
Separate from the hair on fire screaming?
Election officials and judge’s did NOT bend for the President like his parties lawmakers have….
Props to something centuries old…
Props to those who have stood up to a fucking bully….
Keith says
Who said there wasn’t a political side to any Federal Agency? No one.
We said that the career people make the place run.
The fact that someone who has proven that they don’t even understand the basic fundamentals of government is accusing others of being naive is hysterical.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes it’s part of this “alternative universe” He lives in.
A universe where…
Trump will just go home on Jan. 20 and fade into oblivion.
Good ol Uncle Mitch will become the soul of “compromise” eager to help Joe Biden out because he “wants stuff.”
The Republicans will, immediately ,upon Trumps departure, become the cooperative bunch they were prior to Trumps ascension.
The Republican effort to subvert the election has all been just a bunch of boys and girls having a little fun.
And on and on.
It’s just so damn dumb!
CG says
I have not commented on this thread here, so james is mistaken.
His opinion is also very odious and shows that he is very similar to the Trumpists. james view should be roundly rebuked.
The investigation of Hunter Biden, which dates back apparently to 2018, seems to be far more serious than a minor tax matter that might involve money laundering, etc.. The system will play out. Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty. There is absolutely no evidence that anything is being done against him for political reasons. Trump is furious that Barr knew about this months ago and never told him. Trump would have wanted everything possible to leak about this and it never did.
The Biden Administration or anyone involved in the Biden Justice Department should absolutely not intervene for political reasons. The law is the law and justice must be justice. That is what Joe Biden ran on. He should never discuss this in anyway with anyone who is or might be Attorney General. Otherwise, there should be a Special Counsel.
jamesb says
I respect ur view CG….
We’ll see….
I do NOT think Jack and I are wrong on this…
CG says
jack did not agree with you that anyone associated with Biden should find it appropriate to step in and intervene in this.
I imagine if you asked him directly he would tell you he disagreed with you.
jamesb says
Jack found the Hunter case small and indicated that in those situations there would just be a fine….
The Ukraine thing was dismissed even by the GOP Senate committee look and see…
CG?
Since Trump owes the IRS over $70 million should he have to go jail?
CG says
jack said he didn’t know what the Feds had. None of us do, but this seems to be about money from China, not Ukraine.
If Trump broke the law he should face the consequences. We do know for a fact that he has been under audit for years going back to when Obama was President (so that is a form of a federal investigation.) In spite of that, he could have still released his taxes.
CG says

jamesb says
As i pointed out a Senate committee found dumbness on Hunter’s part on the Ukraine but no criminality ….
U DI know the US Atty in the Southern Dist is STILL looking at Rudy….
Rudy is sure to ask and get a pardon…
Just pointing a few things out here…
CG says
The things you point out are completely irrelevant.
I just know, from years of experience, that you are enamored with the concept of political dynasty and that when you find a politician you like, as long as they serve your rooting purpose, they nor anyone in their family can do wrong and deserve to be treated as Royalty.
CG says
And just on the general royalty theme, Prinee Andrew should be held accountable too, regardless of whom his parents are
My Name Is Jack says
To clarify my position ,which has received some attention in this matter,I originally noted that in my experience in tax matters ,of not too great amounts, such was usually settled by tax and penalty payments.I should amplify upon that by observing that the notoriety of the person under the scope is a factor also. That is a simple reality.
I did not specifically make any representation that such was applicable to the Hunter Biden situation and noted that I would await further information before giving an opinion.
However, I would note that federal investigations are very fluid. In other words they may start off on a specific issue but ,as matters come to light , can shift very quickly into other areas.(see Clinton ,Bill) Accordingly, it makes no sense to draw conclusions as to what direction this investigation may or may not move and to offer a view on how this might end is nothing more than mere speculation at this time.
jamesb says
Ok….
New York’s ARE gonna have their Governor around for a while….
WashPost has leaked that that the final choice for the AG spot is between Doug Jones and Sally Yates…
(I hope it’s Yates)….
Notice how fast that was leaked after Cuomo’s name hit the media….
CG says
I would bet heavily on Doug Jones. That choice seemed pretty obvious to me right before the election and by the SecDef pick and the Treasury pick he already met the diversity quota that many on the left consider so important.
I have no issue with Yates personally, but perhaps it would be a good idea to find *someone* who not part of the Obama Administration. Nothing personal against Tom Vilsack for example. but eight years as Secretary of Agriculture already should probably be enough.
Doug Jones has a great record as a prosecutor and took on the KKK for what they had done in Alabama decades earlier, etc. He also was quite valuable to his party for running twice for the Senate (and actually winning once) in one of the most conservative states in the Union. Clearly, he deserves the post.
And we are also still waiting to hear who might be a Republican pick for the Cabinet. So far there has been none. Frankly, Biden should pick two of them.
CG says
The Republican considered most likely to be chosen was Meg Whitman for Commerce but I have not heard of anything since.
Obviously, he is not going to pick anyone who supported Trump, but should at least have someone who was a genuine member of the Republican Party, at least right up until Trump.
Another idea would be finding a slot for Charles Djou, a former GOP Congressman from Hawai’i (who described himself as having become a Democrat in 2018 because of Trump.) Djou would also he an Asian-Pacific member of the Cabinet. It is hard to believe that Biden would not have at least one.
CG says
I would suggest Jeb Bush for Secretary of Education, but the left would absolutely flip out over that concept, and it would complicate things for George P. in Texas for his apparent bid to take on the disgraced Attorney General Ken Paxton in a primary.
CG says
Jeff Flake for Interior Secretary should be a possibility, but likely is not.
Zreebs says
Betsy Devos and Jeb Bush are admirers of each other. I don’t recall anything Biden said on the campaign trail that would suggest he wants the DeVos era to continue.
jamesb says
Weingarten from NY for Ed would be a 180…..
jamesb says
He DID say he wanted a few GOPer’s…
But he may have to pull that back…
Story this morning that Bottoms got offered and AMB to the Bahamas and turned it down…
jamesb says
For me?
Yates IS the best choice…..
Insider that would be more attuned to putting the place back together…
And a woman….
Blacks may not be happy with Jones even with some of his history…
My Name Is Jack says
There’s nothing to “put back together.”
AGs and political appointees come and go.
There is large cadre of professional career attorneys at DOJ who serve from Administration to Administration and handle the bulk of the nuts and bolts type litigation that makes up the bulk of the departments function.
jamesb says
There HAS to be a political side to Justice that enabled Barr to carry out his action like Rosenstein….
Stop being naive….
My Name Is Jack says
Nothing to be naive about.
You have no idea how the Justice Department functions or much of anything else as everyone here knows.
You want to be for Yates?Fine ,but your alleged “reason” is cow manure.
jamesb says
ALL organization’s ARE people ….
More than 2 people working together involves ‘politics’……
Ya gotta do better than this…
Keith says
Jack is right and now I have some work to do for the local volunteer fire department. The fire house needs a new roof and I have dollars to raise. Have a good Sunday everyone.
My Name Is Jack says
And in more Republican garbage Steve Scalise, the Right Wing extremist who, let’s be clear ,Is the No.2 Republican in the Republican hierarchy. No backbencher here, told Chris Wallace this morning that he still supports the bid by scandal plagued Texas AG Ken Paxton and psychopathic Texas Republican secessionist Allen West, the leader of the Republican Party in Texas to subvert the Election.
Scalise looked like the goofball he is ,as Wallace deftly put down all of his lies and subterfuge.
After being made to look like a fool ,the Extremist still refused to acknowledge that Biden is President Elect.
CG says
Who said Biden should put a Trump supporting Republican in the Cabinet? Definitely not me. He should not.
However, he should have at least one Republican in the Cabinet who did not support Trump and it would be a mistake not to do so.
