New Yorkers who are exposed to COVID-19 will only be required to quarantine for 10 days, provided they don’t experience any symptoms during that time, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.
The state updated its COVID-19 quarantine guidelines on Tuesday to align with the Centers for Disease Control’s latest guidance, Cuomo said in a release.
Any resident who completes a 10-day quarantine should continue to monitor for symptoms for an additional four days and “immediately self-isolate and contact the local health department or their healthcare provider” if they do start to feel sick, he said.
All New Yorkers should continue to wear masks, socially distance and avoid gatherings, the governor noted.
“As we approach the New Year and the end of the holiday season, all New Yorkers must remember one simple truth: celebrating smart stops shutdowns,” he said in a statement.
“While the holidays have always been synonymous with socialization, the data shows the vast majority of new cases are stemming from private gatherings,” he added….
