The mammoth Defense Spending bill for next year appears to be the countries Board of Director’s….Congress to come down on the Generals and incoming President’s side against Trump last minute hurried troop withdrawals from the Middle East and Europe….
One had to know that the US Military is NOT happy about pulling troops from places that would create power vacuum’s that would require even more troops going back to deal with after Joe Biden assumes office in less than 2 months….
It turns out that lawmakers in Congress seeing Trump about gone aren’t gonna go along with him….(Biden would NOT be able to make the cuts either without getting Congress to go along…)
And will block the Trump orders their way by having him sign off on a money bill he HAS to approve….Pelosi put in the money part….
Trump hasn’t spoken to her since Febuary….
She just spoke to him anyways, eh?
The compromise defense policy bill released Thursday includes language aimed at preventing a withdrawal from Afghanistan amid President Trump’s order to cut U.S. forces there to 2,500 by mid-January.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would block funding to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan until the Pentagon, State Department and director of national intelligence assess how a drawdown would affect threats to the United States, among other criteria.
The assessment would be required before troops can drop below the number there when the bill becomes law and again before troops can drop below 2,000….
…
“The administration has a constitutional obligation to provide the Congress and the American people with regular, timely and comprehensive information on the status of security operations and diplomatic efforts in Afghanistan and across the globe,” the conference report added.
In November, Trump ordered the military to cut the number of troops in Afghanistan from 4,500 to 2,500 by Jan. 15, days before he is set to leave office.
President-elect Joe Biden has said he would withdraw most troops from Afghanistan, but leave a small contingent of special forces there to conduct counterterrorism missions.
Trump has continued to push forward with drawing down in Afghanistan even as U.S. and military officials have said the Taliban has yet to meet the commitments it agreed to in February….
Trump also wanted Congress to get rid of the blanket liability afforded social media companies ….(Why?)
Lawmakers have balked at doing so and have left the Section 230 section out of the Defense Bill and in tact keeping it from Trump touching it….
It maybe Donald Trump’s party, but with his exit fast approaching and new sheriff coming to town?
The ground seems to be shifting beneath Trump….
But the House and Senate Armed Services Committees were unbowed, approving on Wednesday a massive, bicameral NDAA compromise bill that panel members said included no such repeal of Section 230. The measure now heads to both chambers for certain approval.
Senate Armed Services Chair Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., told reporters that while he supports the call for tech services reforms, the provision “has nothing to do with the military.”
“You can’t do it in this bill. That’s not a part of the bill,” said Inhofe who added that he had conveyed that sentiment to the president….
Note…
The countries affected by Trump’s last minute troop drawdowns are alarmed and have reached out to have Trump’s actions slowed or stoped…
Early in the Trump admin the President complained about foreign countries not ‘playing’ for American military presence in their countries….
