For those of us who thought that the count would be over last night, me included?
We were wrong….
Here we are 24 hours after the voting started and we do NOT have a winner….
Donald Trump as is typical tried to say he is….
No One took the bait on that….
Most of the pundits, me included , had the final score sas Biden as around 320-335 Electoral votes…
That probably will not be….
Right now according to the NY Times….
Joe Biden is at 227 EV’;s…
Donald Trump is at 213 EV’s….
We are waiting for calls on the following states….
Wis, N.C., Ga, Mich., Nev, Ariz and Pa…..
It does seem that Joe Biden will pull this off….
But it will be tighter that everyone thought ….
We’ll see what Trump ends up doing…..
As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, eight states that will decide the next president remained uncalled, as did a handful of Senate races that will determine who controls the chamber.
The eight states are Alaska (3 electoral votes), Arizona (11), Georgia (16), Michigan (16), Nevada (6), North Carolina (15), Pennsylvania (20), Wisconsin (10) and Maine’s Second Congressional District (1).
Joseph R. Biden Jr. has 227 confirmed electoral votes and would need 43 more to win. President Trump has 213 confirmed electoral votes and would need 57 more to win.
Six Senate races were uncalled in five states: Alaska, Georgia, Maine, Michigan and North Carolina….
According to the NY Times interactive ….
Biden is leading in Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada, and is favored to win Mich., and Pa…..
All of those together would give Joe Biden 280 EV’s….
Some states won’t be done until Thursday….
Donald Trump is already talking about lawyers….
…
The Washington Post has their numbers at ….
Biden …224
Trump…213
…
Democrats will NOT expand their House majority ….
The ‘Blue Wave’ of 2018 was nowhere to be found….
House Speaker Pelosi keeps her majority…
But it will be smaller….
Over in the Senate…..
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will stay Minority leader….
Democrats where unable to reach past just 2 gains (Kelly and Hickenlopper) and the lost of Doug Jones in Alabama…
The sobering reality IS that virus and bad economy?
America has NOT turned to the left….
The spectical of Donald Trump may not resume in the White House…
But the ‘Big Tent’ Democratic Party CANNOT afford to follow the Progressives….
America on many level’s REMAINS a center RIGHT country……
And the pollsters may be close in the end in general….
But there was NO ‘Blue Wave’….
jamesb says
And Susan Collins looks like a winner…..
Scott P says
Yeah I was wrong about Collins. I can admit it. Between many of the endangered GOP Senators holding on in (except for in AZ and CO and possibly in GA in a runoff) and House Republicans doing better in suburban districts that were turning against Trump voters may have wanted a check on a Biden administration.
Overall there are fewer ticket splitters than in the past but sometimes situations can bring those types of voters out
jamesb says
Biden and Pelosi need to tell the AOC troops to STFU…..
jamesb says
And ALL that damn money Biden collected helped him…..
But the virus no crowds switch to crowds in the end was the right thing…Even if they where in their cars…
jamesb says
Democrats gonna have to figure their shit out…
Biden will probably win on who he is…
But the party itself has to find the voters out there…
And the reality is a bit less what the party is selling….
Bless the early vote….
So much for Texas and Florida, eh?
So much for Cuban American’s and Democrats who have to stop thinking of immigration as something Hispanics /Latino’s are against.,,
Seem’s like a lot of them once here are against those trying to get here illegally?
Really?
Biden and company gonna have to watch their step….
We don’t want a 2010 rerun come 2022….
CG says
Lots of dust to settle and lots of votes to be counted before we know the entire picture in *all* races.
There can be much said then, but it appears clear that this is still a very divided country and both parties have massive problems in large of the country.
james, the list on the right of “recent stories” or whatever it was called has disappeared. Is there a way to get it back?
CG says
As I was typing, Biden just took the lead in Michigan.
If nothing changes now, he has the Presidency perhaps with exactly 270. Ain’t that a kick in the something?
(might be tough without the Senate though… Mitch McConnell somehow gets the last laugh out all of this? Time will tell)
jamesb says
He’s gonna win….
But it’s gonna be sloppy….
jamesb says
Nate Cohn
Biden has taken the lead in Michigan, according to the AP
Along with AZ, and WI, he now leads in states worth 270 electoral votes–the number needed to win
CG says
Always better to win ugly than lose pretty.
Biden had strengths as a candidate that will have caused him to win as well as weaknesses that cost him from a more solid win
Ultimately, this was a referendum on Trump.
It looks like downballot Republicans tended to do better than expected. Their GOTV methods are more effective, although during a pandemic, this was perhaps an oddity with Democrats doing no door knocking, etc, and Republicans still doing it.
As it relates specifically to Florida and a decrease for Democrats in Miami-Dade, costing them a chance for a solid win and a lot more fun last night… do not underestimate how much the party moving to the left and at least being effective tied to socialism hurt those who came from Cuba and Venezuela.
jamesb says
Biden never really tried there ..
We thought the senior vote would cancel the Cuban/American vote…
It did not…
the socialist labeling of Biden worked there…
Dem’s need to work on that group…
jamesb says
Again….
Biden wins with 280 looks about right
jamesb says
Biden takes the lead in Wisconsin now…
Again…
He’s gonna win this..
Amen….

I’m confident Biden will be the 46th President of the United States come January 20,2021. It is closer than I wanted or expected, but a win is a win.
I also expect Trump to run again in 2024.
CG says
How confident are you on your Susan Collins is a goner guarantee?
Trump is not going to run in 2024. Even Traficant couldn’t do that from behind bars.
jamesb says
Collins will not be up till 2026
CG says
She was up last night and is up in the vote with more than 50 percent still.
We will see what happens, but Scott (after predicting her Thanksgiving retirement announcement) has been saying she was certain to lose for months.
Even I had that race as Leans D because of the undemocratic ranked choice lunacy in Maine, but she has clearly done better than anticipated and is going to win at least a plurality of the vote.
If she loses due to ranked choice, I will have a correct prediction, but it would be pretty unfair under the standard of “the person with the most votes should win.”
CG says
There’s still a lot of dust to be settled and maybe Democrats will have won more down ballot races when all is said and done than appears to be the case now..
However, the way this looks is shaping up to be pretty close to an ideal situation for me personally
-Trump will have been ousted. That’s first and foremost
– there are signs from the electorate that they want some serious guardrails on the country moving too far to the left. We are divided and still mostly center-right than a country “headed fast towards socialism.”
As an avid anti-Trump Republican I had a desire to see his lackeys punished and to go down with him, but the aftermath of that would produce a different kind of result that I think would be bad for the country.
One thing is for sure, if Republicans keep the Senate, SCOTUS Court Packing is not going to happen. The Senate Republican gambit of approving ACB will have proven to be a move worth doing (yet still hypocritical) and ideologically at least that will make me happy.
jamesb says
Damn REAL on we’ll take the’W’
I do NOT expect Donald to enter politics again ….

… waiting for the White House to call on the Democrat governor of Wisconsin to count all the uncounted fraudulent;y genuine votes for Trump/Pence (cf. Arizona)
CG says
To the best of my knowledge, not a single elected Republican official or candidate has voiced support for Trump on the “this is corrupt, stop the counting at once” claim. Several have directly said that should not happen and is not going to happen.
Even Mike Pence, directly after Trump spoke, pretty much said something very different at 2:30 am in the White House. Trump should probably be furious at Pence.
Trump is going to take this defeat though just as can be expected.. horribly.
CG says
The way things stand now, and maybe they could change, Republicans look poised to *gain* seats in the House. Nobody saw that coming. I predicted a 9 seat loss for them and I thought that was being conservative. My U.S. House prediction tally is going to take a major hit.
Offhand, i do not think a single House Republican incumbent has lost, while several incumbents Dems have lost (including jack’s Congressman.)

Fair, balanced, and unafraid indeed, perhaps.

CG says
CNN has called Michigan. For the first time, someone other than Fox News has Biden with the highest number of Electoral Votes. They now have Biden at 253.
Trump lackeys are still insisting that Trump is going to win Arizona and have bizarre conspiracy theories about theft in Michigan because there was temporarily a typo on some county’s website showing Biden received too many votes. The typo was corrected but the myth persists.
CG says
My goodness, they have teamed up Eric Trump and Rudy Giuliani.
The Circus has just begun.

Biden will probably win Pennsylvania and possibly Georgia, but if it came out to 270-268 with the difference in the entire election being Omaha, Nebraska it would have to be the most painful way possible of losing the election.

With @FoxNews giving for Biden 264 EV, Biden needs to win just one of the following states: NV, PA, GA or NC to be declared the winner
CG says
Without PA, there is no cushion.
PA would be the “cushion.”
jamesb says
Nev or Ga?
CG says
Nevada gets you to exactly 270 without PA. I think Biden has won NV
( I was correct months ago when I said it would be perhaps the only state that Trump lost last time and improved on this time.. much that has to do with people who work in the hospitality industry being desperate to see re-opening)
PA looks more likely than GA, but as I said, both are possible.

CG says
He already has the one vote from Nebraska
NV would make it exactly 270 without PA or anything else.
jamesb says
in the 3rd NY CD
Dem Suozzi is behind by about 1,400 votes
But there are a reported 72K + mail-in ballots to be counted….
Nassau/Suffolk NY counties voted FOR Biden 50/48….
CG says
That would explain a lot then if there are races when the mail in has yet to be counted and is not even included in the 99 percent reporting, etc.
That is why there is so much consternation with the Trump folks about various states and why they are harping that Illinois looks as “close” as it is. A ton of votes are simply not counted yet and those are going to skew heavily Democrat.
jamesb says

5 still to be decided
both Georgia (Perdue & Loeffler, R)
Gary Peters (D-Mich)
Tom Tillis (R-NC)
Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska)
from which we may deduce:
(47) 47-52 Democratic (& ind.) range
(53) 48-53 Republican range
i.e. anything from no net change to +5 (and abs. majority) Dem.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/03/us/elections/results-senate.html
CG says
Likely a net gain of one for the Democrats and 52-48. Not at all what they were hoping for.
Even if both GA races go to runoff, it will be harder for a Democrat to win there, as long as Trump is gone and the concept of a Senate check and balance is at play. It will be competitive, but will probably favor Republicans.
Now, what might go down in Georgia tonight at the Presidential level is an entirely different thing.

I’m guessing the end EV count for Biden/Harris will be between 290 and 306.
Would be great if it were the exact same number Trump got in the win that he bragged about so much the last four years. Of course for Biden it’s coupled with what is likely to be a 4-5 point popular vote margin when all votes come in.

Democratic Socialist Dave says
… and that followed after 12 dark Nixonian years between LBJ in 1964 & Carter in 1976.
The Democrats won the popular vote exactly once in 28 years between 1964 and 1992.
The Republicans won the popular vote exactly once in 32 years between 1988 and 2020.
That, of course, is why both parties have joined the Whigs and Federalists in disappearing from the political map. {And in their fatal 28-year drought from 1828 to 1856, the Whigs won not just once but twice.)
CG says
Come to think of it, 2004 broke another 16 year streak. The day after 2000 was a confusing one.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Looking at that map again, I see the quirks in Senatorial cycles mean that only one of the four most populous states (Texas) even had a Senatorial election this year. California, Florida and New York did not.
Such quirks, Trump’s failure to win a popular majority in 2016, and the inherent disproportionality of the Senate & Electoral College make a mockery of Mitch McConnell’s and Ted Cruz’s claim that somehow the American people gave the GOP some kind of mandate to confirm as many Supreme Court Justices as possible within a single preisdential term, while denying such a mandate to Barack Obama.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Let me amend that observation:
There was only Senatorial election in the five (not
four) most-populous states: Calif., Texas, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania.CG says
