Iran’s top nuclear scientist, who American and Israeli intelligence have long charged was behind secret programs to design an atomic warhead, was shot and killed in an ambush on Friday as he was traveling in a vehicle in northern Iran, Iranian state media reported.
The scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, believed to be 59, has been considered the driving force behind Iran’s nuclear weapons program for two decades, and continued to work after the main part of the effort was quietly disbanded in the early 2000s, according to American intelligence assessments and Iranian nuclear documents stolen by Israel.
One American official — along with two other intelligence officials — said that Israel was behind the attack on the scientist. It was unclear how much the United States may have known about the operation in advance, but the two nations are the closest of allies and have long shared intelligence regarding Iran. Um, Iran has been listed as a state sponsor of terrorism for decades and has “Death to America” as part of its official policy, and Israel has been one of the U.S. staunchest allies for decades and we are supposed to be neutral on something?
Of course, despite what Iranian state propaganda says, there is zero evidence that either Israel or the U.S. played any role in killing any scientist.
An “undisclosed” American official said Israel was behind the attack, but who other than Israel (with the possible exception of Trump) would do this? Netanyahu will do whatever he can to prevent a US treaty with Iran, even if he puts the US at risk of a war with Iran.
The US should not consider Israel their ally, and for that matter we shouldn’t consider either Russia or North Korea our allies either.
The US should NOT be neutral on the attack. We should denounce it. We won’t for political reasons and Biden won’t either because this is not how he wants to start his presidency.

When Trump got out of the peace deal, we almost guaranteed that Iran will get a nuclear weapon – unless we were willing to go to war. That was known when Trump broke our commitment and if it wasn’t obvious to fools back then, it should be obvious by now.
Assassinating a few scientists at best will only slow the time it takes for Iran to get nuclear capabilities and it understandably increases the Iranian people’s ire.
I believe Israel and everybody will take any time they can get to try talk their way to a solution instead of an Iran bomb…
The USS Nimitz and its strike group were ordered back to the Persian Gulf region to provide “defensive capabilities” during a drawdown of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Navy and Pentagon said Friday.
President Donald Trump’s withdrawal of troops in the two countries spurred the Pentagon to send the Bremerton, Washington-based aircraft carrier and its flotilla of ships back to the gulf, where it had been for much of the fall.
