Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city public schools will be in session Monday – but warned that “we have to keep fighting back with everything we’ve got” amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a tweet, Hizzoner cited 937 new COVID-19 cases and a seven-day test positivity rate of 2.57 percent.
On Saturday, de Blasio held off on a decision to close the nation’s largest school system after reporting the Big Apple’s infection rate on a seven-day rolling average dipped from 2.83 on Friday to 2.47 percent.
He has said that if the infection rate hits 3 percent, city school buildings will close.
The seven-day infection rate has steadily risen in recent days. It was 2.6 percent on Thursday and 2.83 percent on Friday, when de Blasio warned parents to plan for a possible shutdown.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Saturday said de Blasio should “seriously consider” making closure decisions on a school-by-school basis rather than shutting down the entire system…
