Why is Trump losing?…It’s Himself….Open Thread for Oct. 22, 2020

This election is NOT about Joe Biden…..

It IS about Donald J. Trump….

His introspective, ignorant and chaotic behaviour will be his down fall….

There are NO other real reason’s as strong….

(His response to virus isn’t helping him either)

After four years?

We are tired and want some normalcy ….

He never should have gotten the job in the first place….

It IS THAT simple….

More than 219,000 Americans are dead from a global pandemic. Millions of adults are home from work and millions of kids are home from school. The streets of big cities and small towns have been convulsing with anger and protest and even sporadic violence.

All of this is politically significant. All of it has contributed to an election-year environment that is fundamentally detrimental to the incumbent.

But if Trump loses, the biggest factor won’t be Covid-19 or the economic meltdown or the social unrest. It will be his unlikability….

That’s the story of this election: All across America, in conversations with voters about their choices this November, I’ve been hearing the same thing over and over again: “I don’t like Trump.” (Sometimes there’s a slight variation: “I’m so tired of this guy,” “I can’t handle another four years of this,” etc. The remarkable thing? Many of these conversations never even turn to Biden; in Phoenix, several people who had just voted for the Democratic nominee did not so much as mention his name in explaining their preference for president….

    GOP Candidate Puts Up Racist Website

    A new attack website put up by the Madison Cawthorn (R) campaign in North Carolina includes an explicitly racist broadside against his opponent, Moe Davis (D), for associating himself with people who want to “ruin white males,” The Bulwark reports.

    • Moe Davis is white so I don’t understand the phrasing. I don’t know the whole story and I am sure there is probably something to criticize, but it can’t be racist against the Democrat candidate, since that candidate is white.

      The “white male is under siege” argument may be ludicrous but it’s not racist at face value. It’s calling others (such as Cory Booker in this case) racist in an unfair manner.

            Hmm. Five years of these racist sideshows and just now –11 days before a possible huge repudiation at the polls–they are “concerned”.

  5. Trump has said that we have “ turned the corner” on the coronavirus as infections are rising to their highest levels.

    A verifiable factual Lie.

    He lies so much though no one pays much attention anymore.

      • Also several commentators are pointing out that Trump has been getting “credit” for being calmer and not butting in as much as he did in the first “debate.”

        Just as I predicted yesterday an analysis built upon irrelevancies.

        What’s any of that BS have to do with anything?

        It’s the many verifiable lies that he uttered last night that matter.Its All that matters.Like I said a media spectacle.

        Gee he wasn’t as vicious?Whoooppee!He still lied and lied and lied.

        Indeed in these two “debates?” He told more Lies that all the other candidates of both parties over the past 44 years of “debates.”

          She said it was a “good debate.”

          Then says that Trump lied a lot.

  6. Meanwhile Susan Collins says she considered running for reelection as an independent this year but decided against it because she wanted to keep the spirit of “New England Republicanism” alive.

    Sounds like someone knows she’s going to lose.

  7. If you’re going to run as an independent, Northern New England, and especially Maine, is one of the few feasible places to do so.

    Cf. Angus King, Bernie Sanders and even (momentarily) Bob Smith.

    • Also Alaska has elected independent governors and the independent (backed by Democrats) Senate candidate this year–Al Gross–is within striking distance of winning.

      • I should have added that the three Southern New England states have also elected independents: Lincoln Chafee, Lowell Weicker and Joe Moakley (defeating the anti-bussing activist Louis Day Hicks when she had won the D nomination in 1970; once in Congress, Moakley instantly rejoined the Democrats).

        In New York state, John Lindsay’s second (and successful) Mayoral campaign in 1969 was on the Liberal and independent tickets (against Mario Procaccino, D, and John Marchi, R), while James Buckley (WFB’s brother) won RFK’s old Senate seat in 1970 as a Conservative {unseating the Rockefeller-appointed GOP incumbent, Charles Goodell — father to the NFL commissioner — and Dem. Cong. Richard Ottinger).

        And then there’s Minnesota…..

  9. Jerry Jeff Walker ,who wrote and originally performed the classic “hobo “ song,”Mr. Bojangles
    Has passed away at the age of 78.

    The better known version of the song was done by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

    Sammy Davis Jr. would often perform the song and said it was his favorite ,although he found it so sad it made him cry.

    • RIP Jerry Jeff Walker. I saw John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band last year and he performed Mr. Bojangles and mentioned Walker writing and performing it first.

      Also in the Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings classic “Luekenbach Texas” they mention “Jerry Jeff’s train songs”.

    South Carolina?Where Trump won by 16 last time?Ok he probably won’t win by that much this time,but I know of Nobody who thinks he’s going to lose here.

    Yet Pence is coming to South Carolina?

    The Manchester Union Leader, New Hampshire’s only daily newspaper and staunchly Right Wing Republican, endorsed Joe Biden.

    In its editorial endorsement the newspaper made it clear that while they had numerous issues with Biden, they regarded him as a thoroughly decent man who would elevate the office back to where it belongs.

    “Joe Biden may not be the President we want but he is the President we need.”

    The paper hasn’t endorsed a Democrat in over 100 years.

    Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, now personal attorney to President Donald Trump, had some tense moments on Fox Business on Tuesday and at one point threatened to walk off.

    Lisa “Kennedy” Montgomery asked Giuliani about the Hunter Biden smear and conspiracy theories he’s pushed on Fox News and in the New York Post.

    “Some could say you are acting like Christopher Steele,” she said, referring to the former British spy behind a salacious and unverified dossier on Trump.

    That set Giuliani off.

    “You better apologize for that!” he declared. “I’ve been a United States attorney, associate attorney general, mayor of New York City and a member of the bar for 50 years.”

    His voice rising, he called it an “outrageous defamation” to be compared to Steele.

    “I think our interview is now over,” he said. “I don’t talk to people who accuse me.”

    He stayed another five minutes, but things remained tense as he accused Kennedy of “repeating lying propaganda.”…

      • Miles Taylor, whom I never heard of before, has been on tv a lot as a NeverTrumper for Biden for several months now, as a paid CNN contributor. Previously, he denied he was Anonymous.

    The new Fox News poll has Biden ahead by 8, but according to their panelist Charles Hurt, Trump has more enthusiasm than any candidate for any office ever, and that he cannot believe these polls. However, he says that if only the media were covering Tony Bubolonski and Hunter Biden, Trump would be up by 15 points.

      • Well, it will sort of be on those of you who nominated Biden. Not that I think he is going to lose, and of course I am convinced Sanders or Warren would be doing far worse, etc, but it would signify you guys have major problems with large parts of the country that you cannot avoid…. or that Biden’s flaws could not be avoided totally.

        When I voted in the D primary, I wrote in Romney. Surely a Romney vs. Trump one on one binary choice race would have been a landslide in favor of the Mittster.

          • You would have to admit that you guys should have agreed with me on the deal that the Dems stand down and just put up Kasich to run against Trump (or Baker or Hogan). Assuming the AOC base would not revolt and go along with the plan, it would be a pretty clear mandate.

            But I think Biden is going to win, probably bigly, so try not to stress too much. (How popular he would be once he no longer has Trump as a foil, I cannot answer. It may be a rough ride)

            Regardless, I cannot get over the fact that Trump’s fans are just completely convinced he has this in the bag and that all the polls are “fake.” There is some serious brainwashing that has taken hold there. The shock therapy might be coming whether they realize it or not.

                Many of our best presidents have been underestimated. Truman was seen as the tool of a corrupt political machine. Eisenhower was supposedly a bumbling middlebrow. Grant was thought a taciturn simpleton. Even F.D.R. was once considered a lightweight feather duster.

                I’ve been reading Joe Biden’s speeches and I’m beginning to think even his supporters are underestimating him.

                He’s walking across treacherous cultural ground, confronting conflicts that are shredding the nation, and he’s mastering them with ease….

                    “As pre-election lawsuits draw to a close, and with President Trump running behind Joe Biden in national and many battleground state polls, Republicans are turning their attention to preparations for Election Day and beyond, and potential recounts.”

                      It’s entirely possible that Biden wins say 52/48 or thereabouts with say 278 EVs.

              • I disagree. I do not think I am to blame for the fact that the country as a whole is very divided. What I said applies to anyone who might be elected these days and should not be considered controversial.

    • I have no doubt that Trump has the enthusiastic backing of right wing Republicans who live and breathe FOX News.

      But he won in 2016 not go because of that. He won because independents who didn’t like either nominee gave him the benefit of the doubt.

      Now a FOX poll shows Biden winning independents 54 to 32%. If that’s anywhere close to accurate game over. No matter how many right wing Republicans clamor to get heat stroke, frost bite or COVID at his hate rallies.

      • Yes those “crowds” are meaningless.

        I remember in 1972 on the eve of the Election, George McGovern addressed one of the most enthusiastic crowds up to that time.All the commentaries were about the enthusiasm and eagerness to vote etc etc.

        Maybe the polls were wrong they said.

        They weren’t.

        The next day he lost by the one of the biggest landslides in history.

    • NBC News says that they tried to get Bublonski to appear and for Rudy Guiliani to turn over the hard drive for review.

      They both declined.

      Apparently they will only appear on Fox News.

      They want things to be “fair and balanced.”🤪

      • Four years ago everyone knew about Clinton’s emails. The other day my Republican cousin posted something about the “chairman” and “the big man”. No one knew what the hell he was talking about. Turns out it’s verbiage from the supposes smoking gun Hunter Biden e-mails. Even when he explained no one cared.

        Of the supposed October surprises that one will likely go down as the biggest flop.

    AUSTIN, Texas – A caravan of vehicles displaying Trump campaign flags and signs swarmed a Biden campaign bus between San Antonio and Austin on Friday afternoon, leading the Democrats on board to call 911 and cancel the Austin close of their “Battle for the Soul of the Nation” tour.

    According to the Biden campaign, the vehicles surrounded the bus, trying to slow it down in the middle of the highway or run it off the road. Biden staff notified 911 and local law enforcement, and, they reported, local law enforcement helped the bus to reach its Austin destination.

    Neither Former Vice President Joe Biden nor California Sen. Kamala Harris were on the bus, CNN reports.

    “Rather than engage in productive conversation about the drastically different visions that Joe Biden and Donald Trump have for our country, Trump supporters in Texas instead decided to put our staff, surrogates, supporters, and others in harm’s way,” Tariq Thowfeek, Texas communications director of the Biden campaign, said in a statement Saturday.

    No one was injured. No one was arrested. It is evident on a video of the incident that there was a glancing but obvious contact between a black Trump pickup and a white car apparently being driven behind the bus by a Biden campaign staffer, but no apparent serious or disabling damage.

    On Saturday, Trump shared an edited video that appears to be of the incident, tweeting “I love Texas!” in all caps….

  21. An internal GOP poll in Missouri’s 2nd District shows Trump trailing Biden by 6 points.

    Trump won this suburban St. Louis district by 11 points in 2016. A 17 point swing in suburban areas is what’s fueling states like Ohio where Trump won by 9 pts now basically a tie, and states like Missouri where Trump won by 18 points now a 5 point race.

    This kind of suburban swing probably won’t be enough to put Biden over the top in Missouri unless there is a complete collapse of his support in the rural counties. But it’s enough to knock off incumbent GOP Rep. Ann Wagner and some other suburban Republican incumbents, as well as insulate the first term Democrats who won those kinds of districts in 2018. Lake Sharice Davids in Kansas and Joe Cunningham in South Carolina.

      • Yes if Biden takes Missouri he’s probably well over 400 Electoral votes, maybe closer to 450. I don’t expect that to happen though.

        • Ohio voted for Obama-Biden in 2008 and 2012.

          Should Trump lose Ohio and still carry the Electoral College (by hook or by crook), he would be the first Republican ever to do so since the GOP was founded in 1854. (Had John Kerry taken Ohio from G.W,. Bush in 2004, Kerry would also have taken the Presidency.)

            My stock answer is Biden IS ahead in ALL the polls INCLUDING the ones from Fox….

            (Oopps Not all…Trafalgar and Susquehanna have Trump ahead in ALL their polls…Even Rasmussen has Trump ahead in their poll’s)

            But I caution…

            Joe Biden MUST have a Good margin win of least 320 EV’s….

            There cannot be a ‘close’ one…

            THAT IS what Trump and GOPer’s are praying for….

  23. 94 million votes have already been cast.

    Considering what the Texas Republicans want to do with 100,000 drive-through votes already cast in Harris County (Houston), are Trump and the RNC going to try throwing out 94 million votes and count only the 70 or 80 million cast on Election Day?

    Seems fair to me: you already voted so your vote won’t count but it’s too late to do it in person on November 3rd.
