Republicans said they are just trying to make sure the process runs smoothly and the rules are applied fairly, arguing that Democrats have loosened election rules in ways that could confuse voters and invite fraud.
“We have volunteers, attorneys and staff in place to ensure that election officials are following the law and counting every lawful ballot,” Justin Riemer, chief counsel for the Republican National Committee, said Friday. “If election officials aren’t providing transparency that the law demands or we are unable to resolve disputes over certain ballots or procedures, then we will litigate as necessary.”
But Democrats said there is no evidence that expanded mail balloting and other pandemic-related changes lead to fraud. They accused Republicans of targeting valid votes in Democratic strongholds in a blatant bid to gain an electoral advantage….

Trump’s Main Goal Is to Not Lose on Election Day
As I mentioned to Political Wire members two weeks ago, President Trump’s main goal is to not lose the election on Tuesday night.
There’s more confirmation of this strategy in the New York Times: “Trump advisers said their best hope was if the president wins Ohio and Florida is too close to call early in the night, depriving Mr. Biden a swift victory and giving Mr. Trump the room to undermine the validity of uncounted mail-in ballots in the days after.”
All of the real networks will laugh at any such declaration.
Even Fox ,while giving him a platform as usual ,will likely quickly inform their audience that there are Millions of ballots yet to be counted and such an assertion is mere campaign talk.
Now as to “undermining “ the mail in ballots?Challenging a ballot requires the challenger to assert a bona fide and specific reason, with evidence, as to why a ballot should not be counted, a very high standard ,and one unlikely to be met by Trumps traveling clown show.
Rather we will be treated to loud mouthed yakking by an assortment of Trump cronies and Republican goofballs (like “Dr Death “ Texas LG Dan Patrick) about how the Democrats are “stealing” the election by asking that all votes be counted.
It will certainly appeal to the Trumpites but that’s about it.
Further, now that the gangster has essentially revealed his intention,it will not be news when he does it .
Probably beginning tonight and continuing all day tomorrow and Tuesday everyone will be talking about it particularly on the political shows.
The act itself will be anti climactic and the derision will be enormous.

Those with long memories and long beards might recall George W. Bush claiming victory and accepting his election well before the Florida recount was resolved.

And while the Bush / Gore contest is thrown around a lot,remember that dispute was over a “recount,” not the original count,which showed Bush with 500 vote lead.Further, at no time ,even during the recount as long as it lasted ,did Bush ever relinquish the lead.
Jim Baker ,who led the Bush post election effort in Florida ,said years later that it was imperative that Bush kept the lead.
Trump and his hoodlums are talking about something different .They are trying to keep votes from being counted at all.Thats a whole different legal matter.

The media counted the ballots that Gore wanted to be counted and GWB would have won by more.
And that media combine also found the opposite: that if the GOP’s desired rules had been followed, then Al Gore would have won.

Pennsylvania’s secretary of state on Sunday said it could be “a matter of days” before all ballots in the battleground state are counted.
Kathy Boockvar told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that 2.4 million Pennsylvanians have already voted by mail, and that she estimates there will be 10 times as many mail-in ballots than in 2016, meaning they’ll take longer to tally.
“I expect that the overwhelming majority of ballots in Pennsylvania, that’s mail-in and absentee ballots, as well as in-person ballots, will be counted within a matter of days,” she said….
