This IS REMARKABLE….
The United States Justice Dept. IS the governments legal adviser….
The Military has it’s own lawyers…
That Civilian lawyers will be ‘advising ‘ America military and National Guard troops is telling….
This group IS a indirect rebuttal to possible orders to the military from President Trump and supported be AG Barr…
It COULD set up a conflict for troops who have the right to NOT follow unlawful order’s…But doing THAT is a BIG deal….
The military leadership has already gone on record that they do Not want to get involved in the politics of the election, or post election…
The protests, which followed the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis, prompted confusion among law enforcement and National Guard leaders. Some officials said they had no warning that the U.S. Park Police, which commanded the operation, planned to move against protesters and that the crowd could have been moved out of the area without the use of force.
The legal group anticipates that military personnel might find themselves in the same position this fall, and they may question whether orders they receive are legal.
Some of the scenarios the lawyers have imagined are rooted in recent history with this year’s protests. But President Trump has also raised the prospect of unprecedented legal challenges. For instance, the lawyers say he could federalize the National Guard and order members to seize disputed ballots. Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that mail-in ballots, expected to be cast in historic numbers, are rife with fraud and could imperil his reelection chances.
“Military personnel don’t have to follow an unlawful order, but they take a risk when deciding not to,” said Eugene R. Fidell, one of the country’s leading experts on military law and an Orders Project co-founder.
Fidell advised concerned personnel to consult first with lawyers in their chain of command and to seek out the group as a kind of backup, if they want another opinion. The volunteer attorneys are all experts on the Uniform Code of Military Justice and will consult with service members on a case-by-case basis….

Cunningham Won’t Answer Questions About Scandal
Asked four times if there were more women yet to come forward, North Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Cal Cunningham (D) did not answer directly, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Said Cunningham: “I’ve taken responsibility for the hurt I’ve caused in my personal life. I’ve apologized for it. I’ve said what I’m going to say about it.”
Sen. Thom Tillis (R), Cunningham’s opponent in the race, has publicly discussed a second affair allegation against Cunningham, an unconfirmed one made on Facebook by an attorney who says she knows of that relationship.

Wow, interesting comments today. Lots of denial.
First, Donald Trump is one of the most conservative Presidents in my lifetime. Just look at his court nominees, especially the current “June Cleaver from hell” who cannot even opine on whether the President can delay an election. She didn’t recall hearing the President say he planned to appoint judges that will overturn the ACA. Obviously Trump thinks this woman who ruled that a boss calling an employee the “N” word isn’t a reason for dismissal. What will her children of color think when they are old enough to realize the lady that adopted them is a racist. No wonder her coworkers have written to oppose her nomination. A nomination I fully expect to go through. The Republicans want to go back to the 1950’s and Amy will certainly do that for them. She even said being gay is a “preference,” imagine that, and imagine when she and her other conservative judges go after gay marriage.
And then we have Saint Mitt with his pox on both sides commentary filled with false equivalencies (where have we heard those before?). The man who votes with Trump 80% of the time is offended by Trump’s rhetoric, he’s concerned. Maybe he can take up where Susan Collins left off. Will he be voting to postpone Judge Amy’s nomination until after the election? Of course he won’t, because Mitt still thinks he can get his milky white ass elected to the Presidency. Do we think that even if Trump is in jail he is going to let that happen? Mitt simply flirts with greatness, he won’t get there.
The Republicans will try, as we can see by the comments of our resident Republican here, to pretend that Trump never existed. He did and so does all the damage he and his party has done. They enabled this fat assed mother fucker and no amount of denial will fix that.
Oh, and Dick Cheney did say, “deficits don’t matter.” In fact, he said it many times as he and W set about driving the deficit up with tax cuts and a disastrous war (the one that was supposed to pay for itself). These laps of memory when every Democratic “scandal” is on a loop is rather amusing. Cheney and Bush both invaded the wrong country at the wrong time, and created modern terrorism. Great accomplishments.
And, Nancy Pelosi, who passed her recovery bill in May has nothing to apologize to CNN and Wolf because Ro Kahana said people deserve relief. I guess Dave just misses Maggie. Talk to Mitch, who appeared to think the whole issue was humorous in his debate the other night.
Finally, voter suppression, thanks to the Republican Party, is on full display. People of color have to wait for hours to vote thanks to Republican Governors in Texas and Georgia. This country is ready to go off and is in the process of doing so.
Lots to do. Working with Michelle Obama’s group to arrange voting locations that will accommodate in-person voting. It’s lots of fun, exciting, and a hopeful experience.
Question: if that fly on Pence’s head laid eggs, will he allow them to be carried to full term?
Scott P says
In 2024 the GOP candidates who run as the most Trumpian (Hawley, Cotton, Carlson, Pence) will also be running as the most conservative.
Those who seek to distance themselves from Trump and his rhetoric and policies will still be Reagan type conservatives (Hogan. Sasse) but will be seen as RINOs.
Bank on it.

Sasse Says Trump ‘Kisses Dictators’ Butts’
Sen. He added that Trump has “flirted with white supremacists” and his family “treated the presidency like a business opportunity.”

I agree with everything Senator Romney is saying here… about both sides.
One can also read between the lines and see a definite preference for Biden over Trump inferred.
Scott P says
His example of hatred on the Democratic side is Keith Olbermann (who??) while on the GOP side it’s the President of the United States supported by just about every current elected Republican so–“both sides”
OK Mitt. Sure!
CG says
Clearly, it was designed to be “harsher” on Republicans. But he also had to be fair. What I thought Olbermann said was that he wanted people like ACB and others to be imprisoned when Democrats take power.
Olbermann may be a “nobody” in the grand scheme of things, but so was Donald Trump once in comparison to the then Presidents.
CG says
I mean I distinctly remember Obermann calling GWB a terrorist and “Yes, he is as bad if not worse than Hitler”, so that is nothing new for him, but he recently said that anybody who “enables” Trump should be “prosecuted” and “removed from society.” That’s even worse and far more dangerous in these times.
Romney made it clear he was talking about many aspects of American life, including elected officials, journalists, pundits, and others.
Scott P says
And if the Democrats nominated and elected him President the comparison between he and Trump and the GOP would be apt.
CG says
Focus on the big picture.
I doubt you really consider defending the honor of Keith Olbermann on par with the potential to gain votes for Joe Biden down the homestretch.
You ought to be disseminating Mitt’s statement to your right-wing friends and relatives.
CG says
It was also a clear quasi-endorsement of Joe Biden by a conservative Senator from Utah and a former Republican Presidential nominee, so perhaps people on your side should choose to be a bit more selective in the bitching.
Scott P says
Call me when he actually endorses.

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R), who was recently battling a coronavirus infection, told the New York Times that he was “wrong” not to wear a mask at an event honoring Judge Amy Coney Barrett and in his debate preparation sessions with President Trump, and that people should take the threat of the virus seriously.
“Christie said that he had believed he was in a “safe zone” at the White House while he was there.”
“He urged people to follow best practices, like mask wearing and social distancing, but argued there’s a middle ground between extensive, large-scale shutdowns and reopening cities and states without taking proper precautions.”

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan voted for Ronald Reagan for President–in 2020.
Writing in a dead person is pretty pointless to be honest, and I don’t think it’ll earn him amy extra points from GOP primary voters if he runs in 2024–but at least it’s not a vote for Trump and of course it is his right.
His adviser Ron Gunzburger is definitely voting for Biden and proudly displays his Biden flag on social media.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
If Larry Hogan voted in 2000 for Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), that was while Reagan was still alive.

Anderson /Lucey ran on the National Unity Party ticket
The NUP of course was simply a name Anderson gave to his Independent campaign.
Interestingly, after the election Anderson announced that the NUP would survive and he pledged to build it into a real third party.
Then?Nothing happened and Anderson and the NUP simply faded away.
Scott P says
Anderson/Lucey probavly took more votes from Carter than Reagan in 1980, despite Anderson being an elected GOP congressman at the time.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I just realized that John Anderson and Patrick Lucey not only bridged the great partisan divide, they also spanned the vast territorial expanse between Illinois and Wisconsin, thus appealing to every corner of the republic.
Then I remembered that back in my college-shopping youth, I. too, had traversed that forbidding geographical chasm when I travelled from the airport in South Beloit, Illinois, to Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin.
