Newsweek magazine ,which published the piece by John Eastland which challenged Harris’s right to serve as VP ,has now apologized for running it.
This was nothing more than aRight Wing hit piece.
The Opinion Editor of Newsweek is a Right Wing ideologue,Josh Hammer ,a former aide to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz who has also been associated with The Federalist Society and the Claremont Institute, two week known Right Wing think tanks.

Does John Eastland bear any relationship to the late U.S. Senator James O. Eastland (D-Mississippi) ?
My Name Is Jack says
Actually his name was John Eastman.
My mistake.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
That raises an even more intriguing, though I think far less likely, possibility — is John Eastman related either to the family that owned Kodak or to Max Eastman, a radical writer for (inter alia) The Masses before World War I, who later became an independent Leninist and then a libertarian conservative (collaborating for several years on National Review.)

Wasn’t there a Republican Senator from North Carolina called John Eastman, or maybe just East..in the 80s? If I recall he was in a wheelchair, was a disciple of Jesse Helms, and committed suicide in office.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes John East.
He was elected in 1980 and served one term .He declined to seek re-election in 1986.
He later committed suicide.

Thanks Jack. Something about that name jogged my memory.
Looks like his replacement in the Senate for the final few months of his term was named Broyhill. I’m guessing of the furniture magnate family.
Zreebs says
Yes, Jim Broyhill was related to furniture magnate. I had just moved to NC in 1986.

Sen. John East’s views
might be well within the administration-approved mainstream today, but at the time most people considered them to verge on paranoid craziness.
