And refuses to back away from using it….
A Republican official in Leelanau County, Michigan rejected calls for his resignation after he used the n-word at a public meeting, the Leelanau Enterprise reports.
Said road commissioner Tom Eckerle: “Well, this whole thing is because of them n—–s in Detroit.”
When rebuked for using the language, he continued: “I can say anything I want. Black Lives Matter has everything to do with taking the country away from us.”
Eckerle doubled-down to Interlochen Public Radio: “I don’t regret calling it an n—-r. A n—-r is a n—-r is a n—-r. That’s not a person whatsoever.”

He is not a “Republican Party Leader.” He sits on a small county’s road commission, and has been called on to resign by people higher up in the party than he.
The word “Leader” does not belong in the headline.

Leader, Official…whichever. Doesn’t matter. This guy will be gone and next week another elected Republican in whatever capacity will do the same thing all over again.

The reason it is a story is because of the rarity. Of course he should go from his elected post, but he is not a “Leader” of anything.
