Still looks like Susan Rice to me…..
…Ms. Warren has become something of an informal adviser to Mr. Biden on economic issues and has won support from her party’s progressive wing,..
…
… Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, for instance, has expressed interest in the job of health and human services secretary, according to officials familiar with her thinking.
…
…Mr. Biden’s vetting committee has raised questions about whether tapping Ms. Duckworth could prompt legal challenges because she was born overseas.
…
…Some of his top advisers, however, are warning against tapping somebody who would immediately begin eyeing the next Democratic primary.
…
…“The Bidens are looking for somebody as loyal to them as they were to Barack and Michelle Obama,” said Christine Pelosi, the daughter of the speaker.
…
…One Democrat close to Mr. Biden’s campaign said its polling indicated that Ms. Harris has little allure with Black voters. More telling, a Biden campaign official reached out to The New York Times, unprompted, to say that some of the former vice president’s own staff members are not supportive of her. California Democrats, including several in Congress, have expressed their wariness about Ms. Harris to Mr. Biden’s advisers. In some cases, they have guided him in the direction of Ms. Bass, who is highly regarded in her home state.
…
…While Ms. Rice has a close relationship with Mr. Biden, many in the party are wary of elevating somebody who has never run for office.
…
…Ms. Bass, too, has drawbacks. She has never been in a setting comparable to a high-stakes debate with Vice President Mike Pence. And in private vetting conversations, members of Mr. Biden’s team have asked Ms. Bass to explain aspects of her record on Cuba: She visited the country multiple times in the Fidel Castro era and issued a respectful statement when he died….

The obvious choice?
Michelle Obama!
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Well, we know how well (so far) former First Ladies have done in the Electoral College and its fraternity houses.
jamesb says
If her husband was President?
Why would she want to be Vice President ?
My Name Is Jack says
Oh I’m sure she doesn’t .
I was just messing around.
However if she did want to run?
She would be a formidable candidate.
jamesb says
No doubt…

This is the right thread for Biden VP comments….

More on the Harris past which gets more involved EVERY DAY…There is NOTRHING of substance in this early report which is bound to be updated with more info
Kamala Harris released a former aide from a mysterious non-disclosure agreement signed during the senator’s past career as Attorney General of California.
Terri Carbaugh worked under Harris as chief deputy attorney general for administration and policy when she signed the mysterious NDA in 2011 in exchange for a settlement of $34,900 in taxpayer money. Two days after Carbaugh signed the NDA, she resigned.
News of the past settlement and NDA was first reported by Business Insider.
“Senator Harris strongly opposes the use of non-disclosure agreements to silence anyone. She fully supports the release of Terri Carbaugh from this NDA if she chooses,” Sabrina Singh, a senior Harris advisor, told the outlet.
The settlement amount is just below the $35,000 threshold which would have required it to be reported to the state director of finance along with proposed steps to avoid similar payouts in the future…

You are a West Coast person…
I make NO judgement call on her private life….
But THIS and other thin gs ARE known by the people who have vetted the people on the list…
It’s good to know….
And of course the GOPer’s WILL throw this down just like the NDA story….
jamesb says
Hey Keith?
We KNOW it’s Biden’s call…
His will also have a say in it…
I will also support his pick
And just i did here with Obama
I will complain when he dies something i do not like…
Our group is more than a 1/2 dozen and as RE pointed out?
We ARE a pretty well informed one…
The place has had it’s number of views increase and followers are over 200…
jamesb says
Of course President Trump had no prior governmental or political experience…
Rice has BOTH…
jamesb says
Ok
let’s understand that IF Rice was the VP?
She would have the requisite political experience learning from the second Biden announced her name…
This argument by some is bogus..
jamesb says
I agree Scott on the division of things that would occur with a Rice VP choice…
Biden is a Veteran Senator ..
He is gonna have his hands full domestically
Rice brings a knowledge of the intel community that Trump has shitted on and would be a YUGE help to a over worked Sec of State that will working overtime to bring America back into outside world..
Zreebs says
James, Exactly what do you mean when you say there are over 200 followers? For example, I might log on through my phone, my iPad or my computer. So am I considered as three followers and a poster?
jamesb says
274 people are listed as followers of the site itself…
75 are listed s following the site on twitter…
All of them get a look at every new post i do here
the log on’s are listed separately and yes the number is several times the followers as some people do have several signin signatures

Rices “political “ experience was serving as National Security Advisor.
She has never run for office herself .That is generally considered “political” experience.
Perhaps she has been involved in campaigns that I’m not aware of(however I doubt you are either or you would have already brought them up).
Certainly her lack of such experience is going to be brought up.
jamesb says
Rice lack of running for office is her only serious drawback….
But her other experience i see as balancing things out …
And working with Biden in my mind is the bigger plus…
Again….
As a service VP?
She would gain on the job political experience in addition to the time she spent in the Obama admin…
Her present experience is mikes more then Trump had from day one…
jamesb says
I did do the post about Rice thinking about running against Collins up in Maine…
jamesb says
Bass Cuba thing is the Sunday story on her in the media ….
Biden don’t need this worrying about distractions from a VP that is supposed to help his campaign not kneecap it…
CG says
Being the “First Mother” of the elected Chairman of the Stanford University College Republicans might count as political experience.
My Name Is Jack says
Uh, I wouldn’t want to campaign for VP by saying ,”elect me so I can get on the job experience.”
This isn’t like running for town council.
jamesb says
But the people pushing their choices have pushed even less then that it seems…
jamesb says
She’s smart….
She doesn’t want any part of it….
ronnieevan says
Although Trump didn’t win an election before running for office, I think Democrats should be all about that in a potential VP candidate. M. Obama and Rice should, therefore, be out of contention.
As much as Biden may want to go with Rice, I don’t think he will, as there is no natural constituency for her.
My Name Is Jack says
I share that concern.
As has been pointed out ,Rice has never run in a political campaign and is relatively unknown to most people.
I can already hear the Susan Who’s which will inevitably be heard if she is chosen. The Benghazi thing will come back up.
Apparently the only reason she is even in contention is that Biden and her have a good rapport.I don’t denigrate that though.Biden places great store in it.
Anyway though ,it is difficult to make an argument that any VP candidate in recent history (or history at all) has decided a presidential election.
The closest argument you could make might be that Lyndon Johnson helped carry Texas and a few southern states for JFK in 1960 in that very close election.
Scott P says
Some make the argument that enough evangelicals were soothed by Trump picking Pence that they voted instead of stsying home in 2016. With a margin of 77,000 votes spread over three states it’s possible just enough evangelicals turned out in those states to put Trump over the top.
Of course in such a close race there are literally dozens of factors that could have led to the electoral results we had 4 years ago.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah that true.
In these close contests(2016, 2000,1976,1968, 1960) , you can make almost any argument you want for the outcome.
And as all who post her know, we frequently do!
Scott P says
On Pod Save America this week soneone noted that while Trump may have needed to reassure Evangelicals in 2016 he has not turned out to be the social liberal some of them were leery of him governing as. He has been about as socially conservative on issues as Jerry Falwell Jr or Frankkin Graham could hope. Therefore that may increase the odds of Pence being jettisoned from the ticket this time.
Scott P says
I have no issues with Rice, but I think Biden has enough DC experience that he doesn’t need to add a candidate–who while definitely qualified–has neber run for elective office prior and has spent her whole career in Washington.
ronnieevan says
Here is a consideration in the VP selection. After the election, Trump and the Republicans will challenge the results in various states. At that point, the only face of the Democratic Party will Biden and his VP. There will not be a cabinet yet. Biden and his VP will be called to explain the bogus challenges. I think Biden will need partner who can forcefully and articulately take on Republican attempts, to paraphrase Laurence Tribe, to throw dust into the gears of the election.
jamesb says
RE?
If Biden hasn’t announced his major cabinet picks by the election he should get the big dummy award…
Your point is good…
Democrats WILL have to spend time defending the vote until Dec 20th
My Name Is Jack says
What?
Presidents rarely ,if ever, announce their Cabinet choices before the Election.
Where did you get that uh “fact” from?
CG says
It might be illegal to offer someone a government position in exchange for political support. Formally, it has never happened.
jamesb says
Yea …..
NEVER….
ronnieevan says
I think Biden is going with Kamala Harris and it will drive Trump and the Republicans nuts because they have nothing on her that will stick. You sometimes just need to go with the person that checks a lot of the boxes.
jamesb says
We’ll see….
Scott P says
Oh I don’t doubt Republicans will go nuts. She’s a black woman from the Bay Area who didn’t marry until 50 and has no children of her own.
I expect all of the above to be either hinted at or full blown yelled out by Republicans if Harris is the nominee.
jamesb says
Yes indeed Scott…
Keith says
Yes indeed.
She had sex with a black man too James.
What is the problem with waiting to marry or not having children of your own?
Please explain.
jamesb says
Update…
Joe Biden is down to his finalists and will HAVE to reveal his choice in the next week or so….
….The final one-on-one meetings are seen as critical for Biden, who is looking to recreate with his choice the same kind of close, trusting bond he shared as vice president with Barack Obama.
Heading into the weekend, the consensus among key Democrats was that Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., and former national security adviser Susan Rice were most likely to make the final cut, with Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., also still in consideration….
