House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Donald Trump have not spoken in nearly 10 months, even as negotiations between the White House and Congress to address the coronavirus pandemic have stalled.
Trump called the negotiators three times on Thursday night while they were in Pelosi’s office. But he only spoke with White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, according to Meadows.
The calls underscored the rock-bottom relationship between the top leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties who are tasked with solving the health and economic crises.
The two have not spoken since Pelosi stood up and left at an October 16 meeting after Trump railed at her and insulted her as a “third-grade politician.” Pelosi later said Trump had a “meltdown.”
Since then, the House impeached Trump, the President declined to shake her hand at the State of the Union, the speaker tore up his speech, the President said on Fox that she is “one of the worst speakers in the history of our country” and repeatedly called her “crazy Nancy.”
The feelings appear mutual.
“This President is the biggest failure in our history,” Pelosi told The New York Times on Friday.
“I can’t think of anybody worse.”
During a time of crisis, leaders usually put aside their differences. That has not happened. The two haven’t spoken even as the number of coronavirus cases in the United States surpasses 5 million, a quarter of the world’s total cases…..

Well he is speaking about other matters.
Yesterday Trump referenced the Spanish Flu of 1918-1920.He then incongruously claimed it probably ended World WarII.
The gaffe immediately lit up Twitter.
Maybe he meant World WarI .That would have been bad enough as the flu had nothing to do with that either.
I await Republican declarations as to this casting doubts on Trumps mental abilities.
Remember this when we are treated to more pontification as to Bidens gaffes.
And in another uh gaffe(or just plain idiocy)…..
Trump said today that if he loses the election ,we will all have to learn to speak Chinese.
I await Republican Senators and Congressman stating this nutso comment proves he is unfit for office and they are withholding their support of Trump or voting for Joe Biden.
Yeah I won’t hold my breath.
But maybe Ben Sasse will make some “scathing” remark that two of our posters here will jump on, only to scurry back to Trump’s favor when the rubber hits the road
Yes – The list will be entitled “Republicans are starting to distance themselves from Trump” and one frequent commentator will praise the dissenter and will criticize Democrats for not be willing to do the same in a situation that he considers similar.
