And the campaign money is still pouring in….
Joe Biden’s campaign said Tuesday his choice of Sen. Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate sparked its best grassroots fundraising day ever as ActBlue, the main donation platform for the Democratic Party, said it had collected more than $10.8 million in just four hours.
The New York Times first reported the major fundraising haul for ActBlue, which said it had raised the figure between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Biden tapped Harris as his running mate that afternoon, calling the California Democrat a “fearless fighter for the little guy” and one of the country’s “finest public servants.”
Clarke Humphrey, Biden’s deputy digital director, said the hour after Harris was announced was the campaign’s best fundraising period ever, saying the excitement around her selection was “only a sign of all the great things to come.”
Humphrey added later in the day that the campaign also had the best fundraising day thus far, although Biden’s team did not release figures showing how much it had raised.
“Stoked about running program that empowers supporters & makes days like this possible,” Humphrey wrote on Twitter. “Excited as heck for the Biden-Harris grassroots fundraising machine.”
Biden raised $140 million last month between his campaign and the fundraising arm of the Democratic National Committee. President Donald Trump, however, built on his substantial war chest and raised $165 million in July alongside the Republican National Committee….

First joint event delayed by power outage.

Steve Schmidt just said Harris is the first person on a Democratic ticket to hail from west of the Rocky Mountains.
Considering how many Electoral votes the Democrats have been getting from the West coast states (the last time the GOP received an electoral vote from a Pacific Ocean bordering state that isn’t Alaska was 1988) I’d say it’s about time!

Excellent observation by Schmit…

I read yesterday that she was the first from west of Texas. It surprised me.
Also, this is apparently the first Dem ticket without an Ivy Leaguer on it since 1984

Kamala Harris (despite a different pronunciation) would be the first VP to share a first name with a professional wrestling legend since Dick Cheney (Dick the Bruiser and Dick the Crusher)

Yeah I saw your post about James Harris passing.
Harris from from Mississippi where he had been a farmer.
Managed by Classy Fred Blassie and trained by Man Friday,The Ugandan Giant ,Kamala was quite the sensation back when Wrestling was fun.
I never watch it anymore , but was a real fan from the sixties into the late nineties.

One of my favorite political angles ,and you wouldn’t remember this ,is when Mean Gene Okerlund in the early Eighties would get on the phone and the following would ensue..
“White House?”
“President Reagan please”( He would then put his hand over the receiver and speak to the audience,”the President is a big wrestling fan.”)
“President Reagan Gene Okerlund here”(then he would carry on a conversation about some wrestling matter).
Of course no one ever heard Reagan’s voice.
If one didn’t know better, one might have thought this was fake!

Wow, Gaffe Machine Biden perfectly executed the introduction of Kamala as the “next VICE President.”
Both Obama and Romney messed that up in their intros of running-mates.
Kudos
Scott P says
I don’t recall those gaffes from Romney and Obama in 2012 and 2008.
I do remember where I was when both of those VPs were rolled out though.
In 2012 I was actually in Norfolk, VA the day Romney rolled out Paul Ryan. I was on my way to a wedding on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
In 2008 I saw Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play that night in St. Louis. The people in the seats next to me were in the front row at the Obama/Biden rollout in Springfield, IL earlier in the day.
No beach weddings or concerts coinciding with this year’s announcement of course.

They both called their running mate the “Next President of the United States” mistakenly I sort of understand why. They had gone months hearing people introduce themselves that way. And Biden that day called Obama, “Barack America.”
Biden pulling the into off today like a pitcher hitting a pinch hit home run.

Best VP/Presidential gaffe ever is still George HW Bush saying “For seven and a half years I’ve worked alongside President Reagan. We’ve had triumphs. Made some mistakes. We’ve had some sex . . . uh . . . setbacks.”
Scott P says
I remember when GHW Bush and Dan Quayle got off the riverboat in New Orleans during the 1988 RNC. Quayle was jumping around like a little kid and Bush looked like he was about to add to the puke in the French Quarter.
CG says
I did not watch it live or anything, but Quayle was already in the audience. He had walked to it with his wife and had absolutely no preparation at all, and was the only one who showed up in a suit.

Unlike every other former contender Tulsi Gabbard (who had previously endorsed Biden) has remained silent on the Harris selection.

I am all for wanting Trump to lose, etc, but listening to this coverage today, CNN is not even trying to be an objective news organization anymore.
I can understand the concept of having hosts with opinions in Prime Time like Fox does, but this is all day with CNN and it goes beyond what Fox News does in the opposite direction.
jamesb says
Yo CG?
CNN people falling over themselves for the Biden/Harris ticket rollout like Trump’s people?
Better get used to this stuff….
Lotta people gonna REAL HAPPY for a future of calm and hope with ole Joe and Kamala …
a light shining at the end of a 3 1/2 year bad damn dream!
CG says
You have the right to have that opinion, but CNN is clearly not covering this in a traditional journalistic way.
Scott P says
Well FOX News is saying Biden didn’t actually pick Harris, That he is too mentally feeble to make this sort of decision and that she bossed her way onto the ticket.
I’m sure the idea of a Jamaican woman taking something from an older white person played well with FOX News viewers who have probably had maids fired for suspicion of such.
CG says
An opinion person on Fox News may say something like that, but in regards to their actual “news” programming, they are definitely closer to “balanced” than CNN and MSNBC are.
We saw the job Chris Wallace did in the interview with Trump. It is also true that Biden is not doing any interviews.
My Name Is Jack says
A Republican declaring Fox News “fair and balanced?”
Wonders never cease!
