Probably toooooo late….
Bass has had a rough week of fumbles and trying to explain her past….
More than 300 delegates to the Democratic National Convention and members of the Democratic National Committee have signed on to a statement pushing Joe Biden to choose Rep. Karen Bass as a “unity” vice presidential pick, POLITICO has learned.
The lobbying effort, which comes days before the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is expected to unveil his running mate, makes the case that the congresswoman would help bring the party together.
The endorsement comes as Bass has come under fire for past remarks praising Scientology and calling former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro “comandante en jefe,” or commander in chief. Some of her supporters have argued that she is being redbaited and targeted because she has won endorsements from the progressive left.
“We, delegates to the DNC for Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and others, believe Congresswoman Karen Bass is the best choice among vice presidential candidates under consideration to help unify our party and move our nation forward,” the announcement reads. “We urge Vice President Biden to choose her to join the ticket.”
Biden has a total of 2,632 delegates, while Bernie Sanders has 1,076, according to POLITICO’s delegates tracker.
Bass, the head of the Congressional Black Caucus, has emerged as a leading contender for Biden’s vice presidential choice. Several prominent progressives have expressed admiration for Bass in recent weeks, including some who backed Bernie Sanders during the primary.
Dolores Huerta, a labor icon who endorsed Kamala Harris in the primary, publicly threw her weight behind Bass. Nina Turner, former co-chair of Sanders’ 2020 campaign, signed on to the statement too….
Note…
Harris losing support from the left with Warren not really a choice?

SE Cupp said in her most recent column that she will vote for Biden if he picks Harris but will not vote for him if he picks Rice.
I imagine some in the NeverTrump movement might feel the opposite.
Mona Charen had a column in which she joined me in expressing “support” for Demings. (She also had good things to say about Duckworth)
Rice has sat on corporate boards and made a lot of money doing that. I would imagine that would anger many on the left just as much as having been a prosecutor or cop would.
Scott P says
That could be true, or Cupp could just want something to write about.
Keith says
I agree Scott. But, by all means Joe should take advice from a Republican woman with a stick stuck up her ass.
CG says
“The smell of misogyny” in the afternoon.

That whole Cupp deal is odd.
After claiming that she wants to know “why” Biden chooses whom he does, the reasoning etc.,she then says she’s for Harris and would not vote for him if he chooses Rice.
So, why the blather about wanting to know his “reasons.”
It’s irrelevant.Shes made up her mind.
Oh well, got her a little attention.
CG says
Megan McCain, while confirming that she of course will not vote for Trump, is now refusing to say she will vote for Biden, after it was reportedly written a few months back she had said she would.
My Name Is Jack says
(Yawn)
Scott P says
More attention seeking.
Scott P says
The truth is that these conservative leaning folks in the media who are anti-Trump can get a bit of mileage out of making us guess if they will vote for Biden or vote third party or write in.
It reflects only their need for attention. Among the voting public at large? Little interest in third party/independent candidacies this year.
CG says
Be grateful I am just upfront about these things.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes there does seem to be an inordinate interest in who renegade Republicans are voting for this year.
Frankly ,as I’ve stated here as regards our resident Republican, I couldn’t care less who they vote for.
They have as much to lose as anyone amongst us in a Trump re-election.
What we all should know though is the day after a President Elect Biden be declared?
They will be back in opposition.
So what’s the big deal who they vote for?
jamesb says
GOPer should WANT Rice who was a pretty hard liner working WITH Obama Biden on policy …
Be careful CG….
People are speaking with forked tongue on all this….
CG says
I don’t understand that.
Even anti-Trumpers believe that the Obama/Biden/Clinton/Kerry/Rice foreign policy was terrible, including being weak on Russia until after the 2016 election was already over.
The “saving grace” for me on Rice is that potentially she is less far left on domestic policy, but that’s just a guess.
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t see this petition having any effect.
And I don’t see Bass as the candidate.
Dies Biden want a campaigner or someone he has a personal rapport with?
Thus, Harris or Rice.
CG says
He might have more of a personal rapport with Bass than either of them, thus why Bass got so far along.
My Name Is Jack says
From what I’ve read Bass wasn’t under consideration until pushed by the Black Caucus in the House.
Whatever rapport he has with her would be of recent vintage.
As a veteran politician, I would be surprised at him picking someone who might cause problems in Florida with the Cubans and someone who will spend weeks explaining her weird remarks about Scientology.
CG says
Clyburn was the first to push for Bass and we know that Biden owes him.
They have a rapport going back years because they both lost children in auto accidents. Reportedly, he also likes that she doesn’t ever want to run for President on her own and is not currently married.
The Scientology stuff as well as the way she eulogized a local Communist leader might have hurt her stock though.
My Name Is Jack says
Based on what Clyburns people are saying in S.C., Hes now saying that whomever Biden picks is fine with him.
Both Rice and Bass are largely unknown to most people.
Again, these little known VP candidates don’t work out well
Scott P says
With Congressional Black Caucus member Lacy Clay losing his seat this week I think that group may want to keep it’s powder dry right now and just let Biden make his pick.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Doesn’t mean, however, that they can’t get elected VP, anyway, at least on a Republican ticket. See Spiro Who??, Dan Quayle & Mike Pence. Even Dick Cheney was hardly a household name outside Wyoming.
CG says
Cheney, having been WH Chief of Staff and SecDef in addition to his years in Congress, and as part of the Leadership, had probably the thickest resume of anyone to ever be picked for VP.
jamesb says
Agreed Jack on the call from Clyburn….
It’s Biden’s call
jamesb says
Clyburn had said he’s fine with Rice….
jamesb says
CG?
Biden worked WITH Rice almost daily for 8 years….
He does not have that with any of the othe choices….
