We have never, it is safe to say, had a convention like this before.
With the coronavirus pandemic still raging, it will be almost entirely virtual. Delegates will not be in Milwaukee. The stars of the week, Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Senator Kamala Harris, will deliver their speeches from Wilmington, Del., nearly 700 miles away.
But the important business of the convention — the speeches from Democratic leaders past and present, the adoption of the official Democratic policy platform and, of course, the votes that will turn Mr. Biden from presumptive to official nominee — is still happening, and you can watch it from your couch.
Michelle Obama, the former first lady, and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the runner-up in the Democratic primary, will headline the first night on Monday. Scroll down for a full list of speakers.
How to watch
The convention will air from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time every day, Monday through Thursday. There are several ways to watch:

The Times will stream the full convention every day, accompanied by chat-based live analysis from our reporters and real-time highlights from the speeches.

The official livestream will be here. It will also be available on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch.

ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News will carry the convention from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night. C-SPAN, CNN, MSNBC and PBS will cover the full two hours each night.

Streams will be available on Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV by searching “Democratic National Convention” or “2020 DNC,” and on Amazon Prime Video by searching “DNC.”

The convention will air on AT&T U-verse (channels 212 and 1212) and AT&T DirectTV (channel 201). It will also air on Comcast Xfinity Flex and Comcast X1 (say “DNC” into your voice remote).

. But that was a pretty effective speech. Especially the part about #PresidentMayhem’s authoritarianism. It was surprisingly and uncharacteristically moderate by Sanders’ standards. But still too long. And the firewood was a distraction.

By far the best speech of the night and most important was Bernie Sanders…He was true to character focused on policy and fighting for a more just America…He normally bother’s me when he speaks, but tonight he sounded on point…Michele Obama was okay…the Group of presidential challengers was good, Overall a good night for Democrats…The big nights are Harris and Biden Speeches for sure…tomorrow we have to stomach the Clinton speech, this guy needs to go crawl in a hole some where (and no not that kind of hole…).

I thought Bernie’s speech was very toned down – I suspect at the request of the Biden campaign. But the haters such as James won’t and can’t see it. Sanders speech was everything Biden could have wanted.
Bernie’s speech was great. He talked about creeping authoritarianism. Michelle Obama’s speech had good parts, she didn’t talk as much about Biden as I would have liked.
I may have to change my opinion a bit…I guess Obama’s speech was better than I thought because it got POTUS angry and acting like a petulent child (as usual)…so I guess it was effective and meant to poke the baby bear…

Sanders knows Republican-lite Democrats have little use for him. They have more in common with Kasich than Sanders.
Sanders and Biden (and for that matter, AOC, Amy Klobuchar and John Kasich) have to thread the needle, assuring most voters that the Biden-Harris-Pelosi(¿-Schumer?) era won’t be one of unsustainable P.C., Red Revolution and dispossession of the middle & working classes, – while exciting (or at least reassuring) the active base, which (as we’ve seem from a couple of months of street protests) palpably to the left of James.
If I were being hyperbolic and a little unfair, I’d suggest that Hillary Clinton wasn’t very good at managing either (at least for non-millionaire non-contributors).
