We have daily pictures and video’s of Justice Department , DHS and Customs Border Patrol units using tear gas in combat garb to ‘control’ streets in front of a federal court house?
Huh?

This isn’t taking over ANYTHING….
This is just something political that smells like desperation….
The cities he wants to send the Fed’s to happen to ALL be Democratic led ones?
First of all?
In Portland, Oregon?
The Police force out there numbers about 900 or nso cops…
They patrol and answer calls thru out the city…
Not just the street in front of a court house…
The Fed’s are stuck there according to reports….
Anyone think maybe 100 ‘spec ail agents’ in combat gear could handle a WHOLE city that needs almost a THOUSAND cops to handle 24/7?

We have breathless reports in the nation’s media that Trump is sending federal agents to other cities?

Sending 150 FBI agents, DEA, DHS and CBP people to Chicago (12,000 cops) isn’t gonna Do much of anything in the streets….
In fact?
The special agents won’t be answering police calls at all…
They WILL be doing what is fairly routine in law enforcement …
They will team up with the local cops and pick the worst outstanding criminal to go after while the cops continue working their beats in the streets and handling calls…They will not be shooting tear gas at people walking by Federal states…Their ‘task forces’ will be made up of small numbers of agents from different federal law enforcement agencies
This IS NOT something new…
In Long Island , New York?
Such ‘task forces’ (Suffolk Police Dept 2,300 cops) where used to go after gangs…
In other places the same thing happened to concentrate on drugs, sex crimes and other illegal activities…
Most people and reporters and their editors do NOT UNDERSTAND that police work requires large organisations , manpower and presence…
Parachuting some feds into a area for a limited time is NOT replacing police doing their day to day jobs for their citizens…

Trump has long held up Chicago as an example of a Democratic-run bastion of violent crime. He has previously encouraged the city’s police department to implement the legally questionable practice of “stop and frisk,” suggesting it would cut down on crime.
Lightfoot, in a press conference shortly after Trump’s announcement, condemned the federal intervention in Portland. But she clarified that she expected the additional agents being sent to Chicago to integrate with existing DEA, ATF and FBI personnel already based in the city.
“If those agents are here to actually work in partnership on support of gun violence and violent cases, plugging into existing infrastructure of federal agents, not trying to play police in our streets, then that’s something different, and that may add value,” Lightfoot said. “But the proof is going to be in the pudding. It’s too soon to say if this is a value add or not.”
Asked about Trump repeatedly blaming violence on local Democratic leaders, Lightfoot argued it was intended as a distraction from his response to the coronavirus pandemic….

Someone posted in the comments section on Politicalwire that in most places suburbanites don’t view cities as the “enemy”. Even those who live in the burbs enjoy going to city neighborhoods to dine, see live music (when you could do such a thing) etc.
In this manner Trump is stuck in the 1960’s-1970’s (as he is on many matters) when white flight was new and suburbanites had a negative view of cities. That kind of thinking is pretty rare now except among a few old white folks. A lot of suburbanites I know talk of wanting to move back into the city when they are empty nesters, though there are more and more families with young children in my urban neighborhood than ever before
In my view running against the cities will only resonate with the same rural folks who are already aboard the Trump Train for his support of Confederate flags and statues and telling American Congresswomen of color to “go back”.

If anything this anti urban campaign by the Trump Republicans should push turnout in cities higher than 2016.
They won’t be voting for the guy and the party that talks about rhem and treats them worse than a foreign adversary.

Federal agents are deployed to stop people exercising first amendment rights. Chaos is the goal. They will start out in a majority-White city like Portland to fight “violent anarchists” and then move to other cities and create chaos there. The chaos president gets to use federal agents to create real chaos. The chaos will increase as the negative joblessness and health data comes in. No Republican office holder will speak out against these tactics.
